NION CITY - Republican presidential candidate John McCain joined Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in calling today for comprehensive immigration reform, including guest worker visas to bring employees to California's Silicon Valley and the state's vast agricultural fields.
The two men brought up the issue at McCain's prompting during a global competitiveness roundtable featuring California technology executives and entrepreneurs.
Asked by Silicon Valley panelists on what he would do to grant more visa for skilled technology workers, McCain broadly advocated the comprehensive immigration reform plan he had backed with Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy in Congress.
The same issue brought McCain intense criticism during the Republican presidential primary from conservatives who assailed him as soft on illegal immigration and an advocate of amnesty.
But today McCain, the now presumptive GOP presidential nominee, said an immigration program is needed that protects America's borders and national security. While he called for punishing employers who hire illegal immigrants, he also advocated a humane approach that treats illegal workers as "God's child

Better my enemy before me than behind me.
Well, the lying little weasel is back to normal after telling enough lies to mislead a good portion of primary voters.
I’m still of the belief that McCain with a Dem. Congress will cause more harm than a Dem. president and Dem. Congress.
No one on this forum will be voting FOR McCain as much as they should be voting AGAINST Obama and the only realistic way to do that is cast a vote in McCain's name, we just think that Obama's version will be even worse.
Don’t worry, George Sorus will keep the Republican party afloat so Schwarzenegger can become a Gongressman or Senator, so we can get the majority back.
>> Question is, who will hurt it the least? For me, thats a very, very hard question to answer.
Sad, isn’t it, that our choice comes down to that.

Oh, ping yourself, TADSLOS! LOL....don’t think I can stand to read anymore about this guy. But to show you what a masochist I truly am, I’m going to go watch him on Ellen....Don’t miss it...4pm Pacific.
Note to self: get more nausea meds....
I call for guest worker Senator visas. Perhaps we can get some Aussies with balls to be “guest” Senators while our Senators go take a hike!
cripplecreek: “Better my enemy before me than behind me.”
Wise words! And I have no doubt McPain truly is an enemy of conservatism. He’s simply not to be trusted.
Frankly, I’d rather just get it over with. When America wakes up and realizes they just elected a Marxist (Obama), maybe we’ll finally motivate the millions who sit on the sidelines to throw the bums in both parties out!
Until that time, we’ll just continue our country’s love affair with socialism/Marxism.
“Im still of the belief that McCain with a Dem. Congress will cause more harm than a Dem. president and Dem. Congress.”
Precisely why I hope Obama wins.
BRAVO! Ditto’s and all like that
Odds are good the Republicans are going to have to find a candidate for President at the convention.
“he also advocated a humane approach that treats illegal workers as “God’s child”
Yes, John, they are GOD’s children, not yours, not mine, not any US citizen. The USA or you are not God.
This man is truly a globalist. I think the most telling thing is something he recently wrote, that only seemed to bother me. Maybe I’m searching. But this guy doesn’t see the USA like most of us. He’s never looked at it as ‘home’. He’s never going to ‘get it’.
I could imagine, with a little envy, what it must have been like for the McCains who came before me to be so connected to one place; to be part of a community
Interesting statement. May give an indication why he has no special attachment to the sovereignty of this nation and believes illegal aliens have just as much claim to it as the rest of us who are so connected.

muawiyah: “Odds are good the Republicans are going to have to find a candidate for President at the convention. “
Is there any way to pick a different candidate at the convention? Isn’t McCain locked in no matter what at this point?
