Moderators note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.
US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.
Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

My sister-in-law died from this in her early 40’s, about 9 months after having a seizure and being diagnosed at that time. She had two brain surgeries in the nine months. I excpect Kennedy, at his age, will not make it very long either.

If his is untreatable, and it looks as if it may be, I hope theyre able to manage the pain.
Whether or not they can even partially remove it with surgery,--and that's assuming that Kennedy is a candidate--, the prognosis is still unfavorable. I don't doubt that the issue of palliative care has at least been brought up, if only as a worst-case scenario, along with the option of clinical trials.
I'm sorry for your loss.
To: LukeL
However it if it is a realitivly benign tumor The tumor is malignant.

He's a no-good SOB in my political book, but I'll be damned if I'd wish this sort of fate on anyone - my heart goes out to him and his family. Here's to hoping the Good Lord intervenes and performs a miracle for this man, or at least that he can stay comfortable and at peace in his struggle.

Thanks for putting this back up. I hope your capricious nature is not needed. It seemed that the later threads got progressively more civil, so that may be the case.

I’ll repeat what I’ve been able to glean from public domain info for those who haven’t heard more:
The present news is that Kennedys seizure (I’ve heard he had two) was caused by this tumor, and the type of tumor is one that sends many tentacles, like an octopus, into the brain, and if it is not caught early it is nearly hopeless to eliminate. Given that it caused seizures, doesnt sound like this was caught early.
Prayers for him.

I am appalled by the venom of all the people that had their posts pulled.
To mock and deride a dying man is to invite misfortune into your life.
I am surprised at the immaturity of certain members of this forum -supposedly compassionate, conservative people with values.
It is a shame that the mods have been forced to pull posts, threads, and to ban people.

Then it is certainly invasive. Astrocytoma, I take it?
Yikes!

Has
Mary Jo Kopechne's family made a statement on Senator Kennedy's condition?
In other key moments of his life, including his challenge to Carter for the Dim presidential nomination, they were asked by media to comment.
Wondering if they will weigh in now.

They could be wrong, and tumors are usually graded on a scale of 1-4 depending on the grade of malignancy.
