Moderator’s note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

Senator Kennedy is an evil, wicked man who is fortunate to have been given this opportunity for repentance before he dies. I pray he does just that.

I join you in that prayer.

So I’m here sitting and reading another thread on Kennedy when suddenly the thread changes to LOCKED!

Locked is good. The thread I posted at 10:12:50 got nuked.

Not that I'm trying to count coup as the first to post or anything like that.

Well, OK, I am, but I won't admit it...

Yeah...my sentiments exactly.
When I first heard of him being hospitalized on Saturday,my first immediate thought was “couldn’t happen to a nicer guy”.
I immediately said a prayer asking God’s forgiveness for being so callous, and asked that he simply RETIRE,go enjoy his remaining years with his family, just go away and be quiet. Guess that’s going to happen now.

"Can people leave their personal stuff aside on this thread?"

I agree. The DU'ers will troll these threads and cherry pick any negative posts. This is a good opportunity to show we are better than them. Because we really are. Prayers for Teddy and his family.

Yet another tragedy for the family While I feel bad for him and his family, I think this is a bit of a stretch to call it a "tragedy". Like every human being now alive, he's going to die of something. Dying young with promise unfulfilled might be called tragic. Having a terminal illness at the age of 76, following decades of service that even his enemies (myself included) have to acknowledge was one one of the most legislatively effective Senatorial careers in US history for good or for ill? That's just not a tragedy. And if you say "all" deaths are tragic, that just devalues the meaning of the word.

I once took a friend with a brain tumor to Mayo’s. They told me that she would likely live a year with surgery and radiation. She was dead four months later.

>>> Commentator Marc Lamont on Fox News: Senator Kennedy, a moral leader in the US....

Let’s all be respectful, and give the kennedy’s our sincere prayers...

(However, let’s not get silly about it: “Moral leader” - Nope!)

Sad news for him and his family. As hard as it is for me to grasp, there are people who love the guy. I wish him the best possible outcome.

As for what Mary Jo would have to say to him.... If I were him, I’d be thinking more about what he will have to say when he is standing before God. Like ALL of us, he will have a lifetime to answer for.

I will pray for his healing... from this current health crisis, and for healing of the heart as well, before he has the ultimate meeting with his Creator.

Prayers for Sen. Kennedy and family.

But I’ve said this before: Both he and Sen. Johnson of SDakota need to step aside, allowing their states’ governors and/or voters to replace them. (I’m assuming with liberal Democrats. This isn’t a partisan issue; I’d say it about ailing GOP lawmakers too.)

May He Who has blessed our forefathers, Avraham, Yitzchak, Ya’akov, Moshe, Aharon, Dovid and Shlomo, bless and heal

Senator Kennedy

on behalf of the merit of our good deeds and the giving of tzedakah.

In the merit of this, may the Almighty be filled with mercy upon him to strengthen him, to heal him, to vitalize him.

May He speedily send him a complete recovery from Heaven to all his limbs and organs.

May he be healed along with all others of the Jewish people requiring healing.

May his recovery be immediate and complete.

And let us say Amen.

MGH has one of only nine Proton Therapy Machines in the world for treating Deep Brain Tumors. He’s lucky he’s not in Cuba or Canada.

What is the prognosis for something like this?

1 to 5 years.

Not good.

Deval Patrick does not get to appoint anyone for the slot — MA changed it to a Special Election process when they were afraid that Gov. Romney would get to appoint Jon Carry’s successor.
