Washington is broken. You need look no further than $4 per gallon for gas to see how political gamesmanship in Washington is impacting your life. Two years ago, congressional Democrats promised change but what weve seen instead is business-as-usual.
Just recently, lawmakers in the U.S. House killed an effort to remove from the Farm Bill three special provisions that would benefit a ski resort in Vermont, the San Francisco salmon industry and forest fish in Montana. And congressional Democrats have just introduced yet another tax hike -- $54 billion on small businesses to bankroll more Washington spending.
I dont believe this was the change the American people were expecting, and its become increasingly clear that the promises made two years ago have been broken. The renowned journalist Edward R. Murrow once said, Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions. Middle class families are tired of political rhetoric, tired of politicians talking about what theyre going do and tired of seeing promise after promise broken for political expediency.
Seventeen months ago, House Republicans embarked on a new journey to revive the common-sense conservative principles that built our party up after years in the wilderness. These principles speak to families struggling to make ends meet after filling up their cars, workers concerned about their jobs remaining here and to those who believe that their elected officials just arent listening.
We are listening. And were responding with an agenda that addresses those concerns.

“You “vote party line or all is lost” people treat anyone who strays from your path as an anathema to a “win at all costs” greed in November.”
Greed? How’s that for hypocritical? Your position is “Give ME what I want or I’ll hold MY breath and stomp MY feet.” If the GOP is so “fractured”, how is there even a party line? There isn’t. You ARE trying to make one, though. I’m not a Republican. Never gave them a dime, never will. Never joined their party, never will.
“Win at all costs”? What costs are you referring to? We are talking about a moderate Republican vs. a full blown Marxist. I think the “costs” resulting from that decision are evident. Again, the hypocrisy is astounding. “The cost”? You thumb your nose at any politician who doesn’t fit the mold you have constructed for some messianic uber-conservative who couldn’t get elected dog catcher, much less president. YOU push that guy on the majority and sit back convinced of your own oh-so superior “conservative” ideals regardless of the opinion of the other 90% of the nation. But hey what does it matter if a Marxist gets elected? bcso gets to hang onto some fantasy ideals and that’s what’s really important
You should know. It's your greed for "win at all costs".
Win at all costs? What costs are you referring to? We are talking about a moderate Republican vs. a full blown Marxist. I think the costs resulting from that decision are evident.
Oh, yes they are. Amnesty for illegals. Government intervention in the global warming fiasco that will cost us billions. Yes, the costs certainly are evident.
Look, you and other McCainiacs want to vote for him, fine. But I have no intention of doing so. You don't like it? That's too bad. I'll agree to disagree. Will you?
George Ryan, Republican
Glen Poshard, Democrat
Candidates for governor of Illinois a few years back.
Ryan was for abortion, for more gun control, for increasing state taxes and state spending.
Poshard was against abortion, against more gun control, against increasing taxes and state spending.
The RATS aren't the enemy. Bad policies are the enemy. If the Republican candidate espouse bad policies, he is the enemy.
By the way, George Ryan won the election but now sits in the Federal Penitentiary on corruption charges.
YOU are the one who is all twisted in a knot because there isn't a candidate who shares your exact positions. Don't make it about me. I have the mental capacity to make a decision based on deduction and understand that if I want more, I must go get it myself.
Listen to yourself. Who would want to represent a little crybaby like you? Your self-centered view of a collective process reduces your political capital to zero. It's hard to convince a candidate to agree with you if they're never going to get your vote anyway. It's like threatening to not buy something you can't afford in the first place.
Your anger speaks volumes. As for me, it's not anger, it's principle. I cannot and will not vote for someone who will allow illegals amnesty, allow our borders to be porous, and give in to global warming alarmism. I feel too strongly on those issues to put them aside for convention sake.
You don't like that? Sorry, but that's not my problem. And your continuing to degrade me because of my principles shows you to be far more inconsiderate than you're claiming I am.
I suggest you get a grip on your emotions.
you might want to listen to Hugh Hewitt or Bill Bennet...and weigh their opinion on McCain vs Hillary/Obama. This election will make a huge difference. How can you vote for someone who supports MORE abortions....HIGHER taxes....CUT/RUN in the war on terror.......SOCIALIZED medicine?
McCain is certainly not perfect....but I know where he stands on the issues listed above. ( I HATE “Cap&Trade”...but LOVE the idea of new nuclear powere plants...).... So he’s my guy.
You sound more like you are Anti-Repbulican than anything else. Maybe you should look into the Anarchist Party. They like to break things, too.
Which candidate would you vote for in the Illinois example?
Good for you. No, I'm not being snarly, I mean that.
Let's look at what you've written..."How can you vote for someone who supports MORE abortions....HIGHER taxes....CUT/RUN in the war on terror.......SOCIALIZED medicine?" And "McCain is certainly not perfect....but I know where he stands on the issues listed above."
First, I never said I was voting for someone other than McCain.
Secondly, I've based my opposition to McCain on his adamant refusal to come around on illegal amnesty, and his acceptance of global warming dogma.
Let's turn the tables, what if McCain came out with a 6 month cap on our involvement in Iraq (give me some slack...I'm speculating here)? Let's say he does so to appease the vast center of American voters (panders) in order to shore up votes. Where would you stand then? Or, let's say he comes up with a policy on government intervention in the healthcare industry that cleary means partial government control of that industry ( far moreso than the regulations in place today). What then?
You see, I'm trying to determine your break point. When would you finally say "enough's enough"? You know my breakpoint. What's yours? And if you do reach it, aren't you then the hypocrite that I've been called here on this thread?
I've been called less than intelligent "Bright! Really, really bright!", senseless "You make absolutely no sense.", a deserter "Don't be a deserter.", accused of namecalling "Name calling usually means that you dont have a logical argument." for simply using the term RINO, and a pouting b%^&ch "so you sull up like a little b%^&ch, stick out your bottom lip and pout like a little whiny baby". Should you ever decide that McCain has gone one step beyond and change your mind, you'll then become like the "likes" of me. Talk about painting yourself into a corner. Oh, but that never could happen...could it?
Oh, and since you accused me of being a name caller (the quote above), you may want to juxtapose my use of the term RINO against all else I've called above. And I'm the rude one?
Have you not figured out yet that I have no hope of you finding any common sense? You are merely a tool I am using to keep others from making the foolish mistake of playing politics for all or nothing. Those who do end up with nothing. Feel free to hold out for something that's not on the menu, but don't wonder why you are starving to death.
Now grow up, do for yourself what you cant get others to do for you, and quit acting like a little sissy.
According to dictionary.com...
Sissy:
1. an effeminate boy or man. That's certainly not me :)
2. a timid or cowardly person. See below...
3. a little girl. I'm a 64 yo married male.
I'm standing on principle against a number of you who call me every name in the book, yet I'm the sissy? It seems to me that term applies to you more than I, for you insistence to toe party line just to eke out a win.
Frankly, if nothing else, your name calling and patronizing posts have convinced me even further not to join your pathetic attempt at a win at all costs.
Being a good Illinois Republican, I voted for Ryan. And look what it got us. Yet this is exactly the mentality McCainiacs insist we use this election cycle.
As for being 64 years old, you don't act like you've figured out much in those years. Barring some unbelievable circumstance, either the Republican or Democrat candidate for POTUS will win in November...it doesn't matter how many people stay home. Nobody is not a candidate. I am not about to leave that decision up to others when our troops are kicking ass halfway around the world. I guess you wouldn't have any shame if you didn't vote and let someone like Obama become their CIC. That's real patriotic of you....
Yawn...too little and waaaaaaay too late.
I'm no victim. And if you believe I'm boring don't converse with me.
And while you ignorantly question what I've learned over my 64 years, I'll enlighten you on one thing I know; patronizing attacks on someone because they don't adhere to your line of thinking is never, ever, productive. It's just the opposite. That's something you need to learn.
Now, go have a good day, and get some humility. You're not impressing me at all.
politics is “give and take”....you vote for a guy/gal that makes the best of the cards delt.........an “all or none” positions gets you nowhere.......them’s the facts in a two party system.
McCain’s positions on both illegal amnesty and global warming (puke)...have some things in them that I like...and some that I detest....but I can work with him. He is known quantity and I’m willing to give him a shot for 4 years. If he spends like Bush...I’ll want to wring his neck...but I don’t think he will. There are no guarantees.
I can’t work with Hillary or Obama..and know them to be at least Socialists (maybe worse) and don’t want them anywhere near the WH..THERE....that’s my breaking point.
You are NOT the rude one....But I also don’t think ones a RINO to support MCCain.....I do think it’s a waste of time to bash the only canidate that gives us any hope of achieveing SOME of our agenda....so all the name calling here on FR wastes time that we could use to otherwise influence MCCain to do our bidding.
That’s the goal: get the one closest to our views elected and commence the beatings until he sees it our way.
Hell, one of us might just figure out your precinct and go vote for you....its Obama, right?
I suggest you move upthread and read my post #13. I never called anyone here a RINO. I called McCain (and his Republican political ilk) a RINO. Here's the entire paragraph: "You dont like it, thats your problem. Go ahead and vote for the RINOs as much as you like. Youre the reason were in this predicament. Youre the support they count on. Live with it."
And I stand by it.
Only if one considers rudeness to be effective. I don't.
(Remember...you're our tool)
Only if I were to kowtow to your demands. I haven't, thus you're wrong.
Hell, one of us might just figure out your precinct and go vote for you....its Obama, right?
Be my guest. But it's not Obama, it's Fred Dalton Thompson. Get it right (if you're capable).
Now, get lost, you really are getting to be boorish.
