Washington is broken. You need look no further than $4 per gallon for gas to see how political gamesmanship in Washington is impacting your life. Two years ago, congressional Democrats promised change but what weve seen instead is business-as-usual.
Just recently, lawmakers in the U.S. House killed an effort to remove from the Farm Bill three special provisions that would benefit a ski resort in Vermont, the San Francisco salmon industry and forest fish in Montana. And congressional Democrats have just introduced yet another tax hike -- $54 billion on small businesses to bankroll more Washington spending.
I dont believe this was the change the American people were expecting, and its become increasingly clear that the promises made two years ago have been broken. The renowned journalist Edward R. Murrow once said, Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions. Middle class families are tired of political rhetoric, tired of politicians talking about what theyre going do and tired of seeing promise after promise broken for political expediency.
Seventeen months ago, House Republicans embarked on a new journey to revive the common-sense conservative principles that built our party up after years in the wilderness. These principles speak to families struggling to make ends meet after filling up their cars, workers concerned about their jobs remaining here and to those who believe that their elected officials just arent listening.
We are listening. And were responding with an agenda that addresses those concerns.

Out of touch, Boner is.
Oh, come now. I am expected to vote for a man because he has “(R)” behind his name? And if I don’t it’s because of “childish pique”? You McCainiacs will say or do anything to belittle those who don’t walk in lock-step with your myopic devotion.
I vote for policy not the party. I will NOT vote for McCain.
Wasn’t the country’s fate in the hands of the republicans? It’s just the way the system works.
I might not have use such restrained language, but I would haved been banned for life from Free Republic.
What’s REALLY bright is for these clowns to have abandoned their principles AND their base constituency and expect to NOT pay for it.
Hell, we’ll ALL pay for their idiocy!
No sir. This is how government works. It is completely normal. That is why, for practical reasons, government needs to be minimized and used only where there is no alternative.
BTTT!
Read the Federalist Papers, paying particular attention to the intended limits of the powers of the national government, and compare that to what we have going on inside the beltway today. Then tell me that sumbitch ain't broke.
I don’t think we disagree. My point is that anyone tells us they can “fix” it is lying. It’s not broken. It’s just the way it works (or doesn’t actually). Best you can do is severely prune it back.
You are the only person you’ll agree with 100% of the time.....elections are about chosing the best candiate running...the one that is closest to your values. NOT the “perfect” candiate....the best available. Grow up...is this your 1st election? You sound like a typical 20 year old.
And while we’re at it...why is EVERYONE that dares to disagree with even ONE of your positions... a “RINO”?
Name calling usually means that you don’t have a logical argument.
We could make a big dent in it if we could just get over the idea that Congress can regulate anything they can "find" to have a "substatial effect on interstate commerce".
The biggest effing illigitimate power grab by the federal government in the history of the Republic, and a supposedly conservative, republican President sends his Justice Department lawyers before the USSC to argue to uphold it so we can keep a few people from smoking pot.
Actually the idea that congress needs Constitutional authority to do anything is considered quaint and antiquated. Anything they think best they can do.
If we aren't going to have a republic, what the hell do we need Republicans for?
“Go ahead and vote for the RINOs as much as you like. Youre the reason were in this predicament.”
Rotting BS. Uber “trve” conservatives like you are the reason why we are in this predicament. Your 5%er doesn’t get the support YOU thinks he shoud, YOUR narrow sliver of an ideology is not universially imposed by the “trve” conservative dictator of your choice, so you sull up like a little b%^&ch, stick out your bottom lip and pout like a little whiny baby and bash the GOP and any republican who isn’t EXACTLY like you.
You “all or nothing” people treat anyone who strays from your path as an anathema to your “trve” conservatism. It would be funny were it not so sad.
The same is true of yourself...or anyone else posting on this forum. That's why this forum exists; to promote different conservative opinions. Would you prefer my opinion be banned?
elections are about chosing the best candiate running...the one that is closest to your values.
And when there isn't a candidate who's close to my values? There is arguably little difference between McCain on several issues and Hillary Clinton. I would not vote for her, I will not vote for him.
Grow up...is this your 1st election? You sound like a typical 20 year old.
Name calling usually means that you dont have a logical argument.
You were saying...?
You "vote party line or all is lost" people treat anyone who strays from your path as an anathema to a "win at all costs" greed in November. It wold be funny were it not so sad.
When are YOU going to run for office? Seriously....instead of demanding some other person adopt your exact positions, why don’t you set the example? Until you do, you will be stuck picking the candidate who is closest to your political philosophy. Pretending there is no difference is admitting your own ignorance.
Example: Where do Clinton, Obama, and McCain each stand on the 2nd amendment? Do you see a difference?
Boehner is attempting to criticize the Dems with this statement, but is apparently oblivious to the fact that it encapsulates the very problem that is driving us conservatives nuts! When there is little discernible difference between the "business-as-usual" policies of a Republican-controlled Congress and a Dem one, and when one of the top Repubs in a leadership position admits it himself (however unintentionally!), it's clear they've lost their way.
Most of our politicians, Democrat and Republican, will be just as Socialist as they think is necessary to stay in power. Lately the Republicans have shown all of us that they can out-Socialist the Democrats. With Obama, the Democrats are fighting back and proclaiming the strength of their Socialist leanings. McCain doesn't know what he can do to keep up with this Socialist pace. Even spewing global warming and socialized medicine rhetoric might not be enough to convince the voters of his true Socialist nature.
In the meantime, non-Socialist citizens get bulldozed.
When are you? Seriously! When are you going to stop accepting someone because he's all there is, and run for office yourself to correct this deplorable situation?
When?
I vote policy; not party. If that' unacceptable to you, or others, so be it.
Try to get it through your skull. The RATS are the enemy! You think you can let them take over on principle and then the sheeple will rise up? Guess again! If this pack of RATS takes over, they will screw with the works to keep control. If armed insurrection is what you are counting on, then you aren't a Conservative...you are a damned Libertarian!
