It is my opinion that we need to pray for our leaders this election.
Many Conservative are disappointed with the selection of Senator John S. McCain. But in one sense, he is the true conservative in values -- he has fought for campaign finance reform -- getting big money out of politics.
This should allow the little guy (or gal) more voice in what this country is doing.
In some religions, it is part of the church service to pray for the leaders of a country (Ukrainian Catholic, for example).
We must pray for our leaders and pray that the Congress that is elected in 2008 will serve our Judeo-Christian country and help restore traditional values.
We need to win back the HOUSE and SENATE.
Additionally, Senator John S. McCain may choose a Vice Presidental candidate that many conservatives will warm up to.
I have heard it once said: YOU GET WHAT YOU PRAY FOR.
Obviously, if we are not praying (and working) for the conservatives values this country needs for this election, then God will not help us.
We must be like the Old Widow who continually went to the Judge. Eventually, the Judge gave in the Old Widom because she continually asked the Judge to see her point of view.
I welcome references from the Bible and Torah on this thread...
While not wanting to offend Freepers, this is a somewhat insulting idea to many other Freepers who don’t mix their religious doctrine with the dirty world of Federal politics.
I pray that McCain isn’t as much of a two bit snake oil carnival barker that he has shown himself to be over the last 12 years, that he finds God and nukes those damn Iranians, and he stops feeding the starving children of Gaza until the psychopaths in Hamas are destroyed, I pray that SCHIP isn’t expanded in the name of limited self government, and pray that hundreds of thousands of children don’t go without medical care because of it, I pray that Jon Corzine pushes through a nuclear plant in New Jersey, and pray that there aren’t any heathens like that guy from Minnesota reelected, and I pray that the Supreme Court reserves the natural born rights of men to defend themselves by any means they can carry in their two hands, I pray that the border fence is erected so all those poor people can’t invade our God given country, i pray that Mugabe and his 4000 closest associates die of starvation and torture, I pray that earmarks in the Senate don’t promote speech I object to....
Yeah, so why mix such as those two with a daily thread, it can only be bound toward lowest common denominator idiocy over the long term.
Topher, sorry to see you got some hostile responses right away. I think what you’re getting at here is that we need to pray for our country, and specifically that God will intervene to help us elect moral, responsible leaders. McCain is not really the issue.
For those who believe in God, let’s recognize that blogging, writing letters, calling Congress, voting and campaigning are not enough to ensure the continued prosperity and goodness of our nation. WE NEED PRAYER.
Our country is rejecting God through abortion, the desecration of the family, and moral relativism. We need to ask God for his mercy and protection, and that the election will yield results in accordance with his Divine will.
Jesus, we trust in Thee, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, pray for us.
O, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
I will join you in prayer, continuing to pray for our nation even as my Fathers did before me. If it was right for George Washington and George Patton to pray for this country, then it is still right to pray for our nation now...
Regardless of who is in the White House, God is still God - and we are still one nation, under God.
Some of us may smear some skunk oil under our noses and vote for the man to keep the riff raff out.
A Conservative, he’s not.
Thanks for making it clear.
God bless John McCain, George W. Bush, and our troops.
“But in one sense, he is the true conservative in values — he has fought for campaign finance reform — getting big money out of politics.
This should allow the little guy (or gal) more voice in what this country is doing”
Only someone completely ignorant or completely delusional as to what CFR really is would make that claim. McCain is a disgrace and worthy of contempt, not prayers.
I will go on record right now that I will fight the idea or a McCain day in prayer thread tooth and nail.
If someone wants to start a pray for the nation thread, I’m all for it.
The idolitry that has taken place on this forum over the last eight years has offended me intensely. Shrines to one person on this forum are offensive to the max.
If someone wants to start a shrine to an individual, I support them doing that on their own site, or participating on someone elses.
Christians, I have no problem with you praying for McCain at home. I encourage it. Starting a praise McCain thread here is an idea whose time crashed to the ground for the last eight years.
Never again IMO! Never!
To John McCain and the rest of you RINOs... You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves, “We have Ronald Reagan as the father of our movement”... The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good conservative fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
I actually agree to praying for anyone. I do not agree to praying for them here.
I can’t tell you how much it grated me to see Bush make one dumb decision after another, then move down two threads to see Bush Day in Pictures or the Bush Prayer thread.
Please folks. Spare us...
And the crowd said, “Amen!”
LOL... Sorry but I held that one in for the better part of eight plus years. Not no, but no fricken way in hell, HELL NO.
He has betrayed conservative values at every step of the way. He is no conservative. he is against conservatives and especially Socons, who you now ask to pray for him. I will pray for his soul, but I will pray every day (right on these threads) that the good Lord sees fit to keep this treasonous, traitorous, unprincipled, self serving jerk out of the oval office forever.
he has fought for campaign finance reform -- getting big money out of politics.
Yeah, right. McCain-Feingold serves to keep CHRISTIANS from influencing elections.
But of course, it needn't apply to McCain and his scurrilous cohorts:
FR: "New McCain Fund Gets Around Donation Limits"
So much for "This should allow the little guy (or gal) more voice in what this country is doing".
We need to pray for this country surely, and we need to pray for deliverance from all the current candidates, that God will see to it that a strong and moral man of God can be lifted up in this election.
Yeah, but just think of how bad he might have screwed the pooch if we hadn't been praying for him!
Campaign Finance Reform is one of the main reasons I will never vote for McCain. It is one of the most anti-American pieces of legislation ever enacted. I consider him an enemy of this country for coming up with it.
