We have received many comments on an ad showing what an ABSOLUT world would look like from a Mexican point of view. We are sorry if we offended anyone. This was not our intention. We will try to explain. Though you may not agree, I hope you understand......
.....The In An Absolut World advertising campaign invites consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them -- one they feel may be more idealized or one that may be a bit "fantastic." As such, the campaign will elicit varying opinions and points of view. We have a variety of executions running in countries worldwide, and each is germane to that country and that population.
This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.
As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market. Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.
Nice apology. “Um, you weren’t supposed to see that...”
I would love to know the specifics of the people who wrote and approved this piece of crap ad.
“Why didnt they advocate the Mexicans getting rid of their corrupt goverment? Thats what their dream should be.
Ditto!”
This is hypothesis, but I believe if this invasion were taking place, say under a Andrew Jackson or Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt administration, things would be playing out much differently. Let’s say they decided to deport them. They’d be dropping ‘em in the heart of Mexico city with arms to kill off the regimes. Or more likely, they would have NEVER stood for a foreign country imposing it’s will on us and encouraging it’s citizen to break our laws. Not saying any one of them couldn’t have been bought off. Maybe, maybe not. Lincoln’s Free Soiler cabinet would have wanted Mexico for settlement. They wanted it all.
Who knows how it would have gone, but I can assure you we wouldn’t be printing everything in every language or let them march by the millions in our streets carrying a foreign flag. No way.
That's why we really should consider making war on Absolut, invading their property, destroying their equipment, shooting their people.
Yeah, that's the ticket, whatever Absolut intended what they get is HOT LEAD!
Ahus, Sweden, is in Scania, which is an only partially assimilated piece of countryside formerly part of Denmark for many centuries.
There is a possibility we can first develop a local FIFTH COLUMN that we can depend on to undermind the local Swedish puppet government.
Then, the dismantlement of Absolut can be done with much less investment in fire and iron.
I know what you mean. I was a Stoli and Absolut person, too. Shucks!
Oh, well. Nothing like the adventure of trying out all of the suggestions from the FReepers here. Keep ‘em coming!
For what it is worth, I am still refusing to purchase or consume Miller Brewing Co. products after THEIR sponsorship of the blasphemous picture of the Last Supper.
Note to Absolut... FReepers don’t forget. Ask Miller.
Reconsidering a bit here, maybe we don't need to take out Absolut ~ the Swedish government may well be interested in doing that itself.
Love the new map of Texas! Good to see you on here, Brother!
I share your outrage, Hildy. I know it won’t matter much to Absolut, but as I said, I won’t be buying their products any longer.
“Thanks for the list! Do you have a link, please.”

You'd be crabby too if the home team was "O & 2" in the World Series.

So, that would be a bottle of Absolut “pouring” from the US down to Mexico, with the contents of the bottle appearing as tiny people? I’m sure it’s never crossed Absolut’s minds.
“Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.”
NO. It harkens to a future desired by anti-american mexican-radicals.
On another thread someone posted the link for the corporate ad agency that created this monster. This is what their home page says,

Sounds like a real ethical business model....Disrupt or die....isn’t that an anarchists slogan?
Apparently - Tequila.
I think FR should run a contest for our "historical perspectives and...American sensibility" ragarding our southern antagonists. Then be sure that president Bush and the CEO of Absolut get copies...not to disparage anyone else's sensibilities, sentiments, borders, or late night dreams of course.
No I just need to see if they have the nice versions like Absolut Pepar / Kurrant and the others.
Thank you.
