Attn McCain Apologists: Talk all you want!
But he's still a constitution trampling RINO and unless he repeals McCain-Feingold, repudiates amnesty and global warming, drops all support for embryonic stem cell research and stops talking about partnering up with the Democrats and instead swears to fight the evil bastards he won't be getting my support.
You kicked the conservatives to the curb and nominated your RINO, now all you gotta do is get him elected.
However, that shouldn't be all that tough to do. Look what he'll be running against. A corrupt, power hungry Marxist radical feminist control freak or a corrupt, America-hating racist Marxist surrender monkey (oops, can I say "surrender monkey" in this context?). Can't see America going for either of those two useful idiots.
By the way, "change" is a Marxist codeword.
As they say, America deserves better.
Carry on.
P.S.
Or, you can select a kick butt pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-America, pro-gun, pro-drilling, pro-defense, pro-small government, fiscal conservative as your running mate and signal a return to traditional conservatism as the future of the GOP and of America and you will get all the support you need. If she's a moose hunting Alaskan army mom, all the better!
Ahhh, but I think McCain might be to the right of Bush. Don't forget Dubya was 100 percent behind McCain-Feingold and this amnesty garbage. We were just so sick of Slick and Dubya ran on being pro-life and pro 2A (and in fairness he generally fulfilled his promises on those issues) that we were willing to overlook his big gub instincts.
And I'm still quite glad Dubya beat GoreKerry.
And to continue to look on the brightside, Dubya is more conservative than his father who was more conservative than Nixon/Ford. Obviously and unfortunately, there is no Gipper in sight.
With regard to illegals the only option -- and I mean ONLY option -- is to hope McNut wins and brings in enough conservatives on his coattails to make whatever is cooked up halfway palatable.
And that means supporting McNut.
We have a very good congressional candidate here in Pa-7 (a Marine F-18 pilot and Gulf War vet) taking on a very lib incumbent, and he is very much concerned about the border issue. If McCain has coattails, he is going to win, but that means conservatives can't stay home.
And more on the brightside -- conservatives can't really lose with a McCain presidency (other than of course seeing some really awful ideas implemented but that would be the case with Hillobama only more so). If McCain continues to screw up the economy, which I think he will, I think we would be even more likely to benefit politically than the left since it will be their policies he adopts (no drilling, Kyoto etc.) and we will certainly make that the issue in 2010 and 12.
W/regard to the Dems, they were certain they were going to win this sleepwalking. If they lose, they are going to have to go right, especially on the life issue.
Note that in this election they are both major pro-aborts but Obama is running as sort of a Rockefeller Republican --he's not, he's a flaming socialist but he's running more conservative than Kerry.
Anyway, that's my rant.
It was for people like MacCain net-developers invented "cadaver cam".
And, I strongly disagree with the premise that MacWhackJob doesn't care about what people think. Most nights he lies awake, worried that he'll do something to offend Fat Teddy Kennedy.
It's conservatives whose opinions he doesn't give a damn about...which is why I maintain that ANYONE who'll vote for that grizzled POS is like the abused spouse who thinks so little of him or herself that he blames himself for the abuse he suffers. (Or, are they going to argue that they have to vote for MacCain/put up with their spouse's abuse for the sake of the children?)
I'm voting third party. I'll no longer vote for anyone just because he has the magical "R" after his name. If you keep voting for RINO's, the old boys at the country club will just continue offering them to you.
I believe that the 3 judges you mention were affirmed by most Republicans.
That was back when it was assumed that the President had the right to appoint justices and that they should be affirmed unless there were serious (and not just party) differences.
I believe you would find that ... well, I’m just guessing here, but it would be more telling if you could post a list of the Senators who voted against these nominees.
“Somehow the conservative majority of the GOP has to find and back several truly conservative candidates for the 2012 primaries who can attract both GOP primary voters and general election voters in November, including a large segment of the middle ground independents. If we don’t, as a close observer of national politics for the past 50-plus years I predict that the GOP will become stuck in the position of being the perpetual minority party within the next two election cycles”
Take a moment to reconsider the conondrum you have described in the above paragraph.
John McCain stands a fighting chance of beating both Obama and Hillary precisely because he has the power to attract [in your very words] “a large segment of the middle ground independents”. And he attracts those “independents” because they are, by nature, wishy-washy people unable to make up their minds or take a stand. They are the “waving wheat” voters of America, bending to and fro from one election to the next, driven by the the prevailing “political winds”.
Again, using your very words, “truly conservative candidates” would have scared away the “waving wheats”, particulary as the media tries to whip up the winds of change for “the first black president” or “the first woman president”. At least in this election cycle. as “the Republican brand”, per se, is going to be a difficult sell this November. Our prospects for Congress - not very good - should give pause for thought insofar as that goes.
Even though I don’t care for him myself, Mr. McCain is poised to be a better pitchman for that brand than the other guys would have been (I voted for Romney in my state’s primary, though I would rather have supported Tom Tancredo, or Fred Thompson). In hindsight, I should have recognized Romney as a loser - like it or not, his being Mormon will probably forever deny him presidential office. The country truly ain’t ready for that just yet. (Aside, are we ready for an Islamic president? If it’s not improper to ask that, are we ready for a black one?)
You’re right about the GOP: they acted like they were the “minority party” even when they were the MAJORITY one! Perhaps someday they’ll learn, but I doubt I’ll live to see it.
And you’re also right that the time is NOW to start looking for “conserative timber” for 2012. But I ask: who is there? And, of “who there is”, which of them can be persuaded to give it a shot? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Jim Robinson opened this thread. If you’re reading, Jim, I’ll ask directly:
Look around you (out in Fresno). How does the place look today, vis-a-vis how it looked thirty years ago? Vis-a-vis FIFTEEN years ago? I think you’d have to say that things look pretty different. What has changed are not only the faces around you, but the faces of demographics and political reality.
And it’s changing many other places, too. The United States of America that elected Ronald Reagan in 1980, DOESN’T EXIST ANY MORE. It has changed that much, and with those changes, have come a new political environment.
John McCain is not causing those changes.
The reason he is the Republican nominee this year, is BECAUSE OF those changes.
We had better learn to adapt to them. Or, as epow asserts, we are doomed to become the perpetual minority party.
- John
Well to use your analogy....this year it’s a matter of who we conservatives choose to abuse us. At least McCain is pro-life and defense. Hopefully he’ll choose a good VP to take over in the likely event he can’t finish his term. And I feel slightly hopeful that he’ll chose decent Supreme Court judges. We have ZERO chance of this with HRC or BO
Do you really think we’ll suffer less abuse from Hillary or Obama?? We won’t but maybe some conservatives will feel quite self-righteous about sitting home with their arms crossed on election day... despite the horrid consequences.
As they say, America deserves better.

I don't fully believe the Republican Party will make it to 2012. I see absolutely nothing from Juan that is a definitive indication that the is anything other than a democrat playing off on the war. The only reason he has some appearance of being slightly better than hildabeast or hussein is that they are respectively a globalizing Marxist-Leninist and an America-hating stealth Islamist.
But that is not the point and I do not believe it ever was. So, what is the real impetus behind the MSM and hidden agendas push for MxCain to be President?
Good question. Hint... what is the one event that can bring about the absolute end of America as we know it?
Juan will bring us amnesty which will in the not-so-long term produce about 120 million illiterate to semi-illiterate third world invaders that were born and raised in socialist to near communist countries. They will be amnestied citizens and will vote for whatever Democrat promises the biggest government handout. At that point Judicial appointments, Right to life, Second Amendment, etc, in the context of election issues will mean absolutely nothing.
Voting to affirm a justice isn't the same as nominating one -- that said, I don't expect a conservative out of McCain. Moderate, maybe, but not conservative.
Keep in mind, Kennedy was a Reagan appointee (after the first one was shot down and the second one withdrew) and Souter was Bush's "stealth" candidate that either backfired or was part of the plan all along, depending upon whom you talk to.

All that said, if someone says they won’t donate because they don’t like Jim’s views is wrong. Hell, i don’t back everything said on here but I do back Free Republic and its ideals.
He has never done that.
Support Free Republic even if you disagree with Jim's views.
Good! You had me worried there for a moment.
Rush is NOT an actor.
Yeah! And wrestling is NOT fake. Gotcha. ;-)
humblegunner: Yeah! And wrestling is NOT fake. Gotcha. ;-)
____________________________________________________________
You mean wrestling isn't real? All these years....
Seriously, I listen to Rush every day. He believes what he says. He is invested in his conservative principles and ideals. Rush is the best thing we have going right now. He is probably one of the most genuine people on the right.
Jim, McCocaine is one bad drug I’m saying NO to!I warn you people if you use that stuff you’ll be lip locked to fat Teddy’s backside faster then you can say jump’en Jim Jeffords!
I try to catch his show every day, too.
I just don't attach any particular significance to him.
He entertains me and I agree with much that he says.
But boiled down, he is just a guy talking words.
Based on his previous history, when he appoints Ginsburg clones, I hope conservatives aren't too shocked.
Also, MacCain will be a one-termer. He's already got one foot in the grave, so he'll want to establish his legacy immediately, and the simplest way to do that is to collude with congressional house and Senate democrats. By conspiring with them, he'll not need the Republicans, many of whom will go along with him anyway because he bears the magical "R", which guarantees that otherwise intelligent, conservative men and women put aside their critical thinking and support legislation they'd have opposed if a democrat President had proposed it.
Meanwhile the MSM will praise President MacCain for having grown beyond party loyalty and for reaching across the aisle to do the country's business. All the while real conservative programs will go wanting.
Don't think it'll happen??? Just look at MacNutJob's history in the Senate and you'll see what he'll be doing as President?
And, BTW, with Hillary or Obama, at least we'd know what to expect, and house and Senate GOPers would know to oppose programs and legislation that with MacQueeg they'd support. So, in short, I remain unconvinced that we're better of with MacQueeg.
MacCain is so old, that if he becomes President his first order of business will be planning his state funeral.
