Vogue Cover Racially Motivated?

03/25/2008

NEW YORK, New York (AP) -- A spokesman for Vogue says the magazine's April cover sought to celebrate two superstars at the top of their game.

But critics say it perpetuates racial stereotypes because they say Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James looks like King Kong in his pose with model Gisele Bundchen.

I am more concerned at their over-use of the color red in the text.

Red text tends to influence a sense of rage. Are they trying to create rage!!!!

Somebody needs to either tune the “Sensitivity” knob a bit down or the “Squelch” knob a bit up....

I remember watching him hanging out with her before the superbowl in NY. Now that he’s a loser, I think she can do better. Like Michael Strahan of the World Champion NY FootBall Giants!

Black athletes put a great deal of effort into looking like fearsome brutes. It's all over the commercials for the products they endorse. I call double standard.

Besides, if you're going to do a "Beauty and the Beast" type layout, you can't help but get some King Kong in there.

Blazing Saddles was on last night but I couldn't stand to watch it 'cause it was the PC version where the N word was edited out!

I believed that Mel Brooks and the marvelous black actors as well as the Brooks ensemble cast had finally put the N word to rest. But Alas, the PC crowd can't take a joke!!!

No, that has been the in for a while now.

Black guy-white girl advertising... It’s “In-Your-Face” everywhere.

At first, I thought it was a fad... You know, to spread cultural diversity. But the more I think about it, i think it is a combination of two things...

The first, is the sheep who look upon this White girl Black guy advertising as cultural diversity and go along with it.

The second, is some higher ups somewhere paying the older generation whitey back for spreading the fears of segregation...keeping black boys away from white girls.

This post may get pulled, but I think there is some validity to it...

What other POSSIBLE reason do we see this day in and day out? Out of ALL the other races in the world, we see this the most... Why?

The whole point of Blazing Saddles is the absurdity of racism. With “Ni” bleeped out, the purpose is defeated. Other than that, King Kong’s likeness was inspired by a poster depicting the German military as monsters. Germans, I believe are White.

...and as a point of reference, look at the width of her hips compared to the diameter of the basketball.

These supermodels are tiny!!

Many years ago I dated a girl who some might recognize if I posted a pic. She could take my golf visor and wear it around her waist with plenty of room to spare.

Many years ago, I saw a review for a Bakshi movie called Fire and Ice. (It was lousy, BTW.) But what I remember is, the reviewer criticized the character designs of the evil sorceress' minions as "obvious Negro stereotypes."

The aforementioned minions were 7 foot fanged, clawed demons with glowing red eyes and bodies covered with long green fur.

Sometimes the Valiant Soldier-Martyrs for Racial Sensitivity wind up revealing way more of their OWN hateful stereotypes than they realize.

Believe it or not, the idea of equating gorillas and black men is extremely popular among the Sista Soulja types.

Personally, I thought the magazine spread was more sexist than racist. Vogue did photo spreads of five or so big-name male athletes (including Apollo Anton Ohno and Michael Phelps) cavorting with models. Then it features a handful of female athletes, but do they get male models twisting around them? No! Where’s the outrage?
