Will Rush Limbaugh Be Indicted for Voter Fraud?

As Ohio election officials investigate illegal crossover voting in the 2008 primary, questions arise on Rush Limbaugh's role.

Limbaugh, the nation's top-rated talk radio host, was urging Republicans in Texas and Ohio to skip their party's primary on March 4 and instead cast a vote for Hillary Clinton in order to prolong the fight between her and Barack Obama.

What Limbaugh encouraged Republican voters to do in Ohio was a fifth-degree felony in that state, punishable with a $2,500 fine and six to 12 months in jail.

On Thursday, March 20, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that the "Cuyahoga County Board of Election has launched an investigation that could lead to criminal charges against voters who maliciously switched parties for the March 4 presidential primary."

In 2008, 2.22 million Ohioans voted in the Democratic primary, compared to 1.27 million in 2000, according to unofficial results released by Brunner's office. In contrast, 1.01 million Ohioans voted in the 2008 Republican primary, compared to nearly 918,000 people in 2004.

Michael Slater of Project Vote, a nonpartisan group that designs voter registration drives for low-income people, said GOP meddling in the Ohio Democratic Primary was a clear-cut example of fraudulent voting, which is how Republicans have defined the issue in recent years, as GOP advocates have urged state legislatures and Congress to adopt anti-fraud measures such as tougher voter ID laws.

"Here we have a real instance of spurring people on to engage in illegal election activities with a real intent to affect the outcome," Slater said. "That is voter fraud. People were encouraged to break the law. They had to declare allegiance to a political party and sign a document under penalty of perjury. Intent is what matters in voter fraud."

Me, I’d rather listen to bad solo records by Bill Wyman than to some radio blowhard interested in nothing more than his ratings! Patriotism? Gimme an effing break! Ratings, you naifs!

I suppose in WWII when Germany attacked Russia, we should have helped Germany? No, we helped Russia. Why? They were weaker, AT THE TIME. That's all you can do when two of your enemies are fighting. Make the best of the information you have RIGHT THEN, and make sure one of them is dead when it's over. No one has a crystal ball.

When this started it was pre-Rev. Wright. Obama was ROLLING over Clinton. Had someone not stopped his momentum, he could have rolled over McCain the same way. McCain sure isn't going to put up a fight, and THAT is the real problem. The Republicans are running a milquetoast candidate. THAT is not Rush's fault.

Gee, and I always thought the media was supposed to write and talk about what people were alleged to have done. In this case, no prosecutor has made any allegation that Rush did anything that could be charged as a crime. Only this Michael Slater of Project Vote and the article's author have leveled this charge. Who'll take a bet that both these are avowed Dhimmicrats?

Though Rush hasn't even begun to be charged in the legal system--an investigation is said only to be beginning against voters, not against Rush, yet look what the writer is able to make of it!

“Rush seems to have done just fine throughout the 7+ years of the Bush II administration.”

Thank you. My point exactly.

The racial will put Limbaugh out of business. If you haven’t figured out Limbaugh is on a power trip of immense propotions, you aren’t paying attention. He’s also scared to death of having his attitudes about race rummaged through. He’s from Camp G. Ohio for crying out loud. That’s not exactly Sarajevo, ethnically speaking.

Anyway since you Rush lovers have to have a fight, I’ll give it to you straight. Those DR putas telling him what a man he is makes him feel big. Cialis was a bad idea. You are seeing guys who have no business being awake, paying attention, now being big shots.

Only the voter knows what is in his/her mind at the time of voting; no one can question that. Rush is just a voice on the radio, nothing more - no supernatural powers to control someone’s mind. Of course, I always wear my tinfoil hat to defeat the rays getting to me.

The problem you have created for yourself has to do with the fact that the sincerity of Rush’s “operation chaos” is vastly more believable and agreeable to common sense than your nutty “in bed with Hillary” theory.

In February, Limbaugh was on record as saying it would be better for the GOP if Hillary won:

"If I believe the country will suffer with either Hillary, Obama or McCain, I would just as soon the Democrats take the hit . . . rather than a Republican causing the debacle," he said. "And I would prefer not to have conservative Republicans in the Congress paralyzed by having to support, out of party loyalty, a Republican president who is not conservative."

Soon after that, we got "Operation 'Chaos.'"

McCain, Talk Radio and the “Fairness Doctrine”
Posted by: Michael Medved at 2:34 AM

Let’s say you’re attacking someone every day, criticizing some perceived enemy in a tone that is bitter, highly personal, spiteful and relentless. Now imagine, for the sake of argument, that at the very climax of your over-the-top abuse, the object of your assaults makes a point to defend your right to continue to slime him.

Wouldn’t it be appropriate to interrupt your derision for a few moments at least, to acknowledge the other guy’s courage and integrity—and to salute his support for the First Amendment?

Why, then, no acknowledgement by the most prominent conservative talkers on the radio of John McCain’s principled – and appropriate – efforts to block Democrats who seek to reinstitute the awful Fairness Doctrine?

Please check out this brief, but hugely important piece by Mike Sunnocks for the Phoenix Business Journal from June 29, 2007:

McCAIN INTRODUCES TALK RADIO LEGISLATION

Arizona Sen. John McCain has introduced federal legislation to protect talk radio shows from the reinstatement of past rules that required dissenting voices be given equal time on their shows.

McCain and fellow GOP Senators John Thune of South Dakot and Norm Coleman of Minnesota have put forward legislation preventing the reinstatement of the ‘Fairness Doctrine.’

The Fairness Doctrine was done away with in 1987 but previously required political radio shows to offer equal time to opposing viewpoints as part of their Federal Communications Commission licenses.

A number of Democrats and liberal advocates want the Fairness Doctrine put back in place. They do not like the fact talk radio is dominated by conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham.

This sort of reminds me of what would happen if I encouraged people of another state to drive in violation of their DUI laws. A couple of thoughts come to mind. First is, that state can't prosecute me in my home state, no matter what. Since I didn't flee across state lines to avoid prosecution, the Feds can't get involved. Even if they wanted to prosecute me, who can prove that anyone was influenced by what I said? Finally, I've heard of it being against the law to incite to riot, but never heard it being against the law to incite to violate other laws (voting, drunk driving, gun laws, etc).

I guess I'm agreeing with you in detail. No prosecutor who wanted to be re-elected would do this, as I suspect he would get stomped by the kind of attorney that a wealthy man like Rush Limbaugh can afford.

Rush is a selfish individual, not a conservative or a patriot he portrays himself.

Reading what you 3 are posting, reminds me of an old English Proverb:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. "

Rush is only strengthened by “overzealous prosecutors” He is McCain’s strongest ally, because he draws all the liberal fire while McCain moves about presidentially unmolested. Rush is brilliant and his popularity grows and grows. Those who never listen to him are clueless, but they still like to criticize him. McCain owes Rush big time and he might even change into a real conservative.

I won’t believe that until you can provide a credible source. And even then I’ll be very skeptical. It’s just not possible.

BTW, those statistics are meaningless without comparing the crossover votes to barak.

Now, if rush were so powerful, then why is mccain the nominee? Hmmm? Riddle me that batman. Rush does not lead the conservative base. He parrots our feelings and beliefs and he is an expert at it...genius even.

I hate Hillary as much as you do. The only good thing about her over Obama is that she is more practical. He is just a stone cold idiot (don’t get me wrong, they are both dangerous socialists). However if she steals the nomination, and she’ll have to if she wants it (I don’t doubt she will at least try), a good percentage of Blacks will stay home. THAT could be the edge McCain needs.

"I see a lot of Freepers are reading this article and calling it (and me) “idiotic” and worse. What they don’t understand (and Rush seems to have forgotten) is just how much damage an overzealous Dem prosecutor can do. That’s partially why I wouldn’t have any sympathy for Rush."

Hold on... you actually think that what Rush did was illegal? You actually think that it is a violation of law to vote in the primary of your choice for ANY political motivation at all? Do you think it is illegal when the Clinton campaign called for Republicans to cross over and vote for her? She did just that you know... I dont see you posting articles and making comments saying she did something wrong. You should be supporting peoples RIGHT to vote in any party they want to. People vote based on political motivations. Thats what elections are. This is what YOU have seem to have forgotten. Dems hate freedom as use the courts to fight election processes and outcomes. Its sad to see you siding with them. Way to go.
