Obama's Friday interview by Major Garrett, in which he describes his membership at Trinity United and his connection to Rev. Wright, has been called one of his worst ever. At the time, people were wondering what he could have been thinking, especially given the Democrats on-again-off-again boycott of Fox News.
Melanie Morgan says that as soon as it aired Garrett got an earful:
As I was waiting to go on-the-air, Major Garrett of Fox News was on stand-by to do further reporting on his excellent interview with BHO in which he simply asked a number of questions like: "Did Reverend Wright marry you? Did Reverend Wright baptize your children? How often did you attend church? Did you donate money to the church?"After that segment aired, Major Garrett's phone started buzzing. He received a call from Obama's campaign, and they were REAMING him over the report. From his end, I heard Garrett say "I have nothing to apologize for."
He repeated that several times, and he amplified by saying that he was merely asking questions that everyone wanted answers to.
That did NOT satisfy Obama's people, and Garrett flushed a couple of times while responding to the invective thrown his way.
Strategically, *I'm not sure why Obama would choose to go only to Fox News with this story, especially because I don't think that anyone ever believed this one would be confined to "conservative" media. So far it looks like every decision he's made about Wright has only made him look worse. Obama himself admits that "my judgment at the time [that he asked Wright to join his campaign] was that this was not as problematic as what I've seen over the last couple of days.
Genius.
Transcript of the interview is here. YouTube video is below the fold.

"Nah.....Ol' Slick didn't pay hookers with personal checks like Bob B...?
You can be a good reporter without being strident. Two weeks ago, when he subbed for Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, he slammed to the wall the Florida Democrat who tried to blame the Rats early primary (which disqualifies DNC delegates because the party prohibited an early vote) on Republicans. Brit accurately pointed out that the early date was introduced by a Democrat and both parties in the FL legislature supported it.
“If not Hussein, how about Barack X.”
Why not his nickname? It could be Barak “Berry”!
Could not disagree more. They get as close to fair and balanced as is possible. Some times they go a little to far left sometimes to far right. They never claimed to be right wing. The fact that the Democrat candidates would not hold their debates on Fox News says legions to me.
Well, I guess Bill O’Reilly can kiss any chance of interviewing Obama goodbye. His handlers will be VERY careful that he gets nothing but 16” softballs thrown at him from now until at least the Convention, if not November.
If Obama wins the nomination, I can see them holding the urban districts, but not the gerry mandered ones that include large portions of lower, middle income whites.
The longer this goes, the more screwed they are. Both at the bottom and the top of the ticket.
Fox may have moved a bit Left but the rest of the MSM moved to the cliffside Left.
The arrogance and ignorance of Obama is startling, he is unable to manage a straight forward interview and he and his idiot supporters think he is electable. talk about Liberal Fantasies....wish that damn DRat party would just collapse!
Oh really? He seems to have done a masterful job of it so far. How many presidential candidates do you know of who have, or had, such a fanatical cult following that scores of young women fall on the floor in a dead faint when he walks onto a stage? Sure, they're only a microscopic pinpoint on the national scale, but Obama came from practically nowhere on the national scene to become a major party's presumptive nominee for president so far and so fast that a great many people who only follow politics sporadically had never even heard of him before the IA caucuses.
Since I'm an unalterably heterosexual male I don't suppose that I will ever understand what the attraction is for the cult of young women who swoon over Obama on sight, or the middle aged lady volunteers who work their fingers to the bone on his routine campaign clerical work. But whatever it is, any politician would pay a king's ransom to get his hands on even a small bottle of it, and so would I if I were a young single man on the prowl again.
BO has not learned how to live the Clinton's perversion of Lincoln's quote; to wit, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but if you cannot fool all the people all the time, then screw 'em."
I think Obama needs to be questioned much deeper regarding his backing away from Wright and his church of 20 years. Religion convictions are “core beliefs”, and to reject them because of public opinion is not a trivial thing. How could the American people trust Obama to hold true to other positions which are political but not “core”? On the other hand, if his membership and beliefs of the church are only superficial with Obama, what does this say about him as a man?
I saw that interview. Garrett was waaay too easy on B. Hussein O.
“Welcome to the Big Leagues Mr Obama”
You want a bottle of white guilt?
But it has turned out to be smoke and mirrors. He is none of the things advertised and it’s beginning to show.
GARRETT: So, quick yes or no. If had you heard them in person you would have quit?
OBAMA: If I had heard them repeated, I would have quit. I mean, obviously, understand that understand that, you know, this is somebody who is like an uncle to me. He's somebody who helped me find Christ. And somebody who always talked to me in very powerful ways about relationship to God and our obligations to the poor.
If somebody makes a mistake, then obviously, you recognize I make mistakes. We all make mistakes. If I thought that that was the repeated tenor of the church, then I wouldn't feel comfortable there.
But, frankly, that has not been my experience at Trinity United Church of Christ.
I’m glad we’re all reveling in the fall of Obama.
Now we get 4 (or 8) years of the Clintons.
The Right did not need to participate so soon in the Obama stuff, there would have been plenty of time for that during the general election.
Again, Obama never was going to win in a general election!!!!
I think it happened when CNN started out giving Larry King his own show, and now everybody in media wants to be the next Larry King.
But doesn’t that just mean “Hello Hillary”, again?
Major Garrett’s interview with Obama on FOX was one of the best I’ve ever seen. It might prove to be the turning point in the Obama campaign. Garrett went after the facts—just the facts—and made Obama look like a weasel trying to find a hole to crawl into!
