Barack Obama wants to set the record straight. He is not a Muslim, as recent e-mails falsely claim.
The Democratic presidential candidate is fighting the e-mails that have been widely circulated. Obama has been continually speaking about the role of faith in politics since his Call to Renewal address in June 2006.
In the days before the South Carolina primary, he is driving efforts to speaking with media to emphasize his Christian beliefs. His campaign also sent out a recent mailer portraying the candidate with his head bowed in prayer and says that he will be guided by prayer when he is in office.
The senator from Illinois spoke with Sarah Pulliam and Ted Olsen today about his faith, abortion, and the evangelical vote.

Quote from Barack Obamas book, Dreams Of My Father: The person who made me proudest of all, though, was [half brother] Roy .. He converted to Islam.
From Dreams of my Father, In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school I studied the Koran..
From Audacity of Hope: Lolo (Obamas step father) followed a brand of Islam ....I looked to Lolo for guidance.
From The Audacity Of Hope, I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
From The Audacity Of Hope, We are no longer just a Christian nation, We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.
From Dreams of My Father, I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHERS RACE.
From Dreams of my Father, The emotion between the races could never be pure..... the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart.
From Dreams of My Father, I ceased to advertise my mothers race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites
From Dreams Of My Father, never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didnt speak to my own. It was into my fathers image, the black man, son of Africa, that Id packed all the attributes I sought in myself...
From Dreams Of My Father: That hate hadnt gone away, he wrote, blaming white people some cruel, some ignorant, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives.
From Dreams Of My Father; There were enough of us on campus to constitute a tribe, and when it came to hanging out many of us chose to function like a tribe, staying close together, traveling in packs, he wrote. It remained necessary to prove which side you were on,to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names
From Dreams Of My Father, I had grown accustomed, everywhere, to suspicions between the races.
These quotes tell me all I need to know about Obama's Muslim leanings AND his own racist prejudice against whites.
Amen!
I don’t doubt you are quoting right out his books, but it would be nice to have the Chapter and Page numbers to back this up with.
It is beyond my comprehension how he can categorically deny he went to a muslim school if he said that he attended one in his book?
Am I missing something here?
No they are not.....remember, its OK if there own talk about Christ. Its similar to when they discovered that once a Dem got into office those noisy air force jets belonged to them.
The problem with this article is that Obama reiterates his bland denial of ever having been a Muslim, in spite of the evidence to the contrary.
This puts everything else in dubious light.
Obama: “I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Yes ... and so does the devil....
No you can’t “that too”!
A Christian knows, without any doubt, that when they die they will end up in heaven with God.
If a person doubts that .. they ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN!
I am guessing that he is trying to be fair to the agnostic crowd so that he doesn’t belittle anyone or stroke his ego. However, in so doing that he belittles the aspect that he is devout enough and good enough to not doubt that possibly there is a place in heaven for him. Religion is based on the cold, hard facts not the comfty cushion.
I do not insult him for doubting himself, but if you know a lot more about what somebody faithful believes than “The Messiah”, than he is really screwed. Hell, he could call Jesus Christ his favorite philosopher, just like President Bush did(who probably knows a lot more about his faith than Obama) and than tone it down to something a lot more, well, “secular”. I do find it a little bit offensive for him to ready the truth that voting for Partial Birth Abortion is a sign of doubt in the ability to go to heaven.
Maybe he knows something more than we know, and that he is Pro-Partial Birth, really a Muslim now that is the point of it. That he doubts going to heaven because he is not spiritually qualified and thereby makes the line a facade.
Hey, at least he didn’t slip on his tongue while saying that line. It could’ve been a lot worse(like Al Gore’s interpretation of our history)
Achieved years ago...the NFL, NBA, Hollywood, the Music Industry and Affirmative Action.
In this situation, the only other "something" on the horizon is Hillary Clinton.
The U.S. citizens with objections to all the choices before them had better figure out how to create more political parties to represent them. Together, the Republican and Democratic machines now hold a monopoly. Neither represents the great number of Americans who see the damage of our porous borders, for one example.
I wonder who told him to say that?
Are you aware of some muslims who have embraced Christianity and rejected past teachings that are in opposition to their new faith? I have not, yet you nor I would necessarily have that information.
Before I would consider voting for a new President of the U.S., I would have to be convinced that the person has absolutely no allegiance to the muslim religion.
Would you swear on a Bible that Obama has no ties to the Nation of Islam?
The Catholic Church, a Christian church, teaches that some may end up in hell. Catholics do not "assume" they will be taken into heaven. They believe they have to abide by the Commandments and seek forgiveness for their sins, with the intention of not committing them again. The last I heard, Catholics ARE Christians.
You forgot about us?
Note he doesn’t say he has never been a Muslim, just that he has never been a practicing Muslim - remember he is a lawyer, and is precise with his words, implying without denying.
Never lie in court; always hire a professional to do it for you.
An excellent point.
The money quote here was “I have never practiced Islam.”
The follow-up question is what he considers to be the practice of Islam.
If he’s participated in the prayers he made the confession of faith which makes him a Muslim in the eyes of other Muslims, even if, like his stepfather, he didn’t follow the halal rules.
it is taught in the koran that you are to lie and deceive the infidel to further the jihad.
What’s sad is that people will think these Democrats are serious about believing in both the resurrection of Christ and killing babies by abortion. Which one do you think they REALLY believe in? I mean, if you’re talking about Mitt Romney, that guy was a bit of a mystery. But these Dem’s telegraph loud and clear what they really believe!
