Angelina Jolie Makes More Sense than the Democrats on Iraq
February 29, 2008

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

<SNIP>

Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, "We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact."  Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working.  Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article.  She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this.  It's stunning.  I've had some people, "Rush, you realize, she didn't write it." I don't know that she didn't write it.  I'm not going to assume she didn't write it.  (interruption) That's another thing, that's a good point, too, it's pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth.  But she's big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more.  He's gone after substance here, is all I'm saying.  This really is a good piece.

"My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation." We discussed this yesterday, moral obligations versus rights in health care.  "We not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis. ... What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made."  She makes more sense than any Democrat that's out there running for office.  She makes more sense than any Democrat anywhere in this country talking about Iraq, other than Lieberman.

As I told someone who attacked Bush’s Iraq policy, “Angelina Jolie disagrees with you. And since she’s hotter than you her opinion carries more weight.”

I saw on TV when she went to a Hollywood premier wearing a little black dress she got at a thrift store for something like $25.00. I like that about her.

Now, if she would only marry the baby-daddy.

She is a home-wrecker. She broke up a man’s marriage. And, she has thus-far refused to wed the man who has fathered her first (and now second or third) bio children.

As to the “few” pictures, there are MANY pictures out there of this wonderful mother who called her baby a blob and a outcast and her boyfriend and adopted children. They may be a happy loving family, but it would be much better on the children if they actually formalized their relationship and made the kids realize that some commitments are worth making and it is not okay to live in perpetual fornication.

I applaud any good she has done. But, I see Saint Angelina lifted up much like Saint Obama is lifted up. She is praised mainly because she is physically beautiful (with a little help). He is praised because he is a good speaker (who says nothing). Where’s the beef?

"The few pictures that are out there w/her, Brad and the kids show a happy loving family."

True. It's just amazing how talented she is. And very hardworking. I wish she could make up with her Dad. I bet he would really adore those grandkids.

Jennifer seems sweet but she had to be boring compared to Angelina.

I gotta hand it to Angelina, after a sorta rough start, she really lives her life and is to be taken seriously.

Maybe so maybe no. Who knows what the state of that marriage was? But I do recall seeing a report that when Jolie adopted her first baby, Billy Bob was not at all enthused about father hood. And the same with Jennifer Anniston, she was not ready to be a mother and Brad Pitt wanted kids. Soooo.

“it must be hard going through life so ugly and undesirable to men:”

That’s right ladies... if you don’t exercise and take care of your appearance, you get stuck in Iraq ;-)

So what? What happened to for better or for worse? Oh, I know, it went away with for better or until the other person doesn’t support my desire to have kids, which of course we should have discussed before the vow but oh well. Billy Bob is a new father. Seems to be happy about it. So more than likely, it was for better or for the time being until my sex drive dictates otherwise.

I can’t give them an excuse. Brad was married. Brad cheated on Jen. Now, he is living in fornication with Angie. I don’t think they can fix the past, but they need to do the right thing for the future and mean it.

We discussed this yesterday, moral obligations versus rights in health care. "We not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis. ...

Rush should stay away from political philosophy. He's a rank amateur at it.

If Rush agrees with Jolie that continuing nation-building in Iraq is a "moral obligation" that justifies taxing Americans to pay for it, then how can he credibly argue against the taxation of Americans to provide health care to all Americans (which he also characterized a "moral obligation")?

The truth is that there is no provable moral obligation to subsidize anyone. There is no right to health care and no right to be kept free from tyrants. In fact, there are no provable rights, just abundant proof that individual liberty and individual responsibility should be respected by all people who wish to maximize their own liberty.

No American should be required to subsidize anyone else's health care and no American should be required to support nation building in Iraq.

Ya know, I was waiting to form my opinion on “The Surge” until I heard Angelina Jolie’s opinion. Now I know it must be working. Angelina is the Earth Godess.

It seems self-evident that we have a moral obligation not to abandon Iraq right now. There’s no formal proof of this, but it seems odd that someone wouldn’t to be able to see this.

If you back your car over your neighbor’s foot, you have a moral obligation to pay for it. That doesn’t conflict with the fact that he has no right for you to subsidize his healthcare.

These aren’t difficult distinctions to make, so long as you’re not all tangled up in hypertheoretical libertarianism. In fact, this is precisely why I ditched libertarianism for conservatism a few years back. Libertarians have a bad habit of missing the forest for the trees.

Does Angelina’s cheek have a pinkish hue? A rosy glow?
