Forty thousand Nevadans soon will receive word that they might have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis strains B and C in what a federal health official called the largest notification of its kind in U.S. history.

I wonder why?
You won’t hear why.
They gotta protective the rights of the individual with HIV that works at the clinic. The rights of every other citizen is at risk but PC says the one with the sinning habit is protected.
World upside down.
A little too late for that now (condoms/safe sex)....
WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I’ve been in the health care field for over 20 years, and would never even CONSIDER reusing a syringe. There is absolutely no reason or excuse to do so.
Ping
I didn't read the article completely, but where did you see anything about an employee with HIV? It looked like the cause was reusing syringes on multiple patients and drug vials and not cleaning the scopes properly.
How about state medical inspections where invoices are reviewed to be sure the approximate quantities of syringes, are invoiced and paid for, based on the procedures and patient numbers?
How many of us sheeple, just trust the doctors and nurses — albeit blindly.
Then we will have the manufacture of syringes from China to contend with. Are they really sterile? Can we blindly trust China either?
I’m sorry, I nearly simultaneously posted the same story. Add this footnote: Brian Labus, lead investigator, is unconcerned as to the reason behind the re-use of these syringes.
Patients also possibly exposed to Hep A, B and HIV. The employees who were working at the clinic during this period of time, to Labus’ knowledge, are currently still at the clinic.
Intentional?
A little too late for that now (condoms/safe sex)....
Maybe for the patient, but what about for all his/her sexual partners? Just because the doctor gave someone a diseease doesn't give him free rein to spread it.
I’m not shocked it’s Las Vegas.
For the past 2 and a half, my step-grandmother was in and out of Las Vegas hospitals with fluid in her lungs and shortness of breath. They contributed it to congestive heart failure. They would pull the fluid off her lungs and send her home with oxygen, just to have her return 2 months late for the same process. About a month before she passed, a new doc tested the fluid - it came back positive for pneumonia. Not once in the previous 18 months did anyone test the fluid. She was finally given antibiotics which cleared up the fluid in her lungs. Unfortunately, the previous 18 months of botched care actually weakened her heart too much to recover. She had beaten the pneumonia, but succumbed to Las Vegas healthcare.
Going to see if this place was on her list of clinics in the past 3 years.
Did you read the article? This has been going on since 2004! at clinic that does colonoscopies.
Your right; when I posted, I was thinking specifically about the patient, and more the fact that it was 4 years ago that this started....
Criminal charges need to be filed.
Somehow it seems people are better off if they stay away from doctors, hospitals and clinics unless absolutley necessary anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the medicines we take are also making us worse than we were without them.
Of course many are necessary, but it sure makes you think.
This is probably the kind of thing that will happen with universal healthcare all the time.
Just awful. Dirty needles are a 3rd world type thing.
Tax dollars for clean syringes for druggies on the streets, but....
if I was one the patients I would be very PO’d right now
