I installed a solar water heater and solar PV panels long before it was fashionable. No tax break, no FPL discount. Nothing. I was using the fluorescent bulbs long before Algore told us to do it because they last a long time and they burn much cooler than incandescent or halogen bulbs. I also installed a white reflective metal roof on the house. That alone decreased the summer electric bill by 28%. The solar water heater paid for itself in 5 year. My motivation has always been to decrease my electric bill.

I really resent Crist and FPL spamming me with pleas to purchase solar/carbon credits. I resent Crist using my money to rub elbows with green weenies.

Fortunately, plans were under way long before Crist arrived on the scene to build Florida's power grid defenses....this 5 year old article describes the relationships between NERC, SERC, FRCC, "control areas", and FPL's own position as the Florida council's designated "security coordinator."

You know that’s a scary thought. Fixing Medicare,SS and Medicaid by poisonous light bulbs. Nothing surprises me any more. Look at the FEMA trailers full of formaldahyde (sp?).

Time to stock up on old light bulbs. They can’t get warrants to search our homes for bulbs or can they? This is how Hitler got started. It was about worship of the German environment, the fatherland.

This from your link...

“If a crisis looms in the Eastern Interconnection grid, FPL can immediately shut off two large 500-kilovolt transmission lines it owns that cross the state’s border near Jacksonville, according to Wiley.”

Sounds like the switch protected the north, this time.

Sweetie, even her doctors @ UIB said they don’t understand ‘why’ she did...she said praise Jesus, I know, it’s all the prayers. You will be in my thoughts and prayers for your success and strength while you must endure your trial. Keep faith & positive attitude, there was a reason God put this roadblock in front of you

A “significant equipment failure’’ at an electric substation in West Miami-Dade County Tuesday afternoon caused a nearby nuclear reactor to shutdown, triggering waves of power outages from Key West as far north as Daytona Beach and Tampa.

“This is not a routine event, it’s not routine at all,’’ Player said at a 4 p.m. press conference at the Miami-Dade Emergency Operations Center. “We are still investigating ... we don’t have all the details of what caused (the outage).’’

Another NRC spokesman, Neil Sheehan, said three resident inspectors from commission at Turkey Point are following up on the incident, and their analysis is being monitored from the regional office in Atlanta and headquarters in Rockville.

The outages have no connection to terrorism, Homeland Security Department spokeswoman Laura Keehner said. No foul play was suspected, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez said.

Sounds that way, doesn’t it? Amazes me that FPL & PSC still haven’t attributed the source of the original ‘outage event’....may not find out ‘til they fix the transfer station in Miami, start up, and watch it hiccup again. The Florida PSC was due to complete their 2007-2016 Long Range Transmission Reliability Study, a steady-state assessment of Peninsular Florida’s transmission system to ensure that it remains stable under normal and emergency conditions, in March. This event may slow them down a little!

We lost a power pole in the first gust of wind, about 2 PM. No power until 9 PM. Some how it blew out my modem, I had to get to Staples for a new one, didn’t get back on line until after lunch. The first blast of wind felt like the pressure wave from an explosion, this whole old shack sort of shuddered and leaned. The power pole looked like it had been blasted.
