Drudge: Huckabee-Deadlocked Convention Is The Goal
1200- WOAI ^ | 02/22/08 | Jeff Forsyth

Posted on 02/22/2008 4:42:09 AM PST by torchthemummy

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most ‘conservative alternative.’

I don't think Huck has a deadlocked convention in mind either. He is a proven liar and moves the goalpost and his positions along with the polls.

My guess is that he only drops out once Hillary loses the nomination to Obama.

> “Firstly, it disproves the theory (espoused by Limbaugh and every other conservative in America) that “conservatism works every time it’s tried.”

> “After all, who was more solidly conservative than Rick Santorum.”

I agree with you on this. Although you will probably be blasted by the “true believers” who post here.

I believe that conservatism is the best hope for America and the rest of the world. However, even under the best of conditions, conservatism is a hard sell to the general public.

We were lucky that Ronald Reagan was able to do that. Not many people could and not many people will be successful at doing what he did. Expecting the general public to fall on their hands and knees to worship a conservative is just NOT going to happen.

A deadlock would work for me. That’s really our only chace for a “do-over”.

How does he plan to do this when McCain is going to win enough delegates?

I wish Rick Santorum was our next President

I'm with you brother. Perhaps we could take up a collection here at Free Republic and buy him a white horse. Picture the scene as the doors fly open and in rides Rick. We need to act soon!

We just need to block the street on Jan. 20th and have him move in.

How it’s terrible to piss off “moderate” Republicans, but nor not conservative, or other Republicans?

At least Huckabee wouldn’t change the platform. And McCain would only appoint judges that would not overturn McCain-Feingold-not the kind you want.

Huckabee working every day to elect B. Hussein Obama. This self important puffer from Hope is truly a good friend to the Democrats. Could people stop being such idiots about this. It's February, the election is 9 whole months away, by the time March 4th occurs, it'll be 8 months until the election. I mean, golly gosh gee whiz, how can we survive if we're not united behind our nominee 6 months before the stupid convention. Will people get a grip? And by the way were you saying before Super Tuesday that Huckabee was only this to help McCain.

I hope Huckabee is successful in getting a brokered convention.

He certainly is nobodies puppet.

Go Huckabee!

Obama is the son of a muslim man. He’s muslim alright. He doesn’t get a vote in the matter. That’s crucible to the whole argument about Islam. It’s slavery. You are born into it. They practice assimilation by impregnating nonmuslim females in conquered lands. These lands automatically become Muslim in a generations time. OBH could end up being called on to do a deed just as great if not greater than Lincoln. Think about it. Fatwa on the apostate occupying the top office of the Great Satan. 2012. You need to think bigger.

Romney implemented a Gay, Lesbian and Transgender task force .... He put in place a compulsory health care program that is so ugly Obama attacked it last night in his debate with Clinton — who wants to put the same sort of program in place. Romney appointed homosexual activists as judges in Massachusetts. He raised taxes. His health care program is already $400 million over cost estimates. He stated support for homosexual scout masters. Quit your shilling. The guys gone.

YOU are the phony liar.

The Gay task force was already in place before he even got there.

His health plan increased PRIVATE coverage, not government controlled coverage.... and it was not only endorsed, but CREATED with help from the HERITAGE FOUNDATION -- one of the most conservative organizations in the country.

Why do you think Obama hates it.

Romney did NOT raise taxes, he simply pro-rated many licenses and fees to keep up with inflation. Show me where he raised income or sales taxes.

He NEVER proposed gay scoutmasters. Show me where he proposed having gay scoutmasters, and not that stupid out of context YOUtube clip where he simply says all should be allowed to join.

YOU have got to find something constructive to do instead of dwelling on hatred for this man.

(Hucklebee) could be in bigger trouble in WY/ID/UT/NV than elsewhere and actually worse than McCain (if that is possible).

Totally agree.

Huckelbee as VP would gain the GOP nothing in the way of more votes.....

But would send millions of Republicans fleeing to the Independant or Democratic party rather than vote for someone who has such animosity for other faiths outside of his own Baptist faith.

I was raised 24/7 in the Baptist church, and I know first hand how dogmatic many Baptist preachers are against the Mormons, and against any other faith that doesn't adhere to their version of the Bible.

The hypocritical thing is that Hucklebee refuses to criticize and diss the Roman Catholic faith, even though I am certain he finds Catholics just as "evil" as he does Mormons.

Hucklebee might be distorted, but he is NOT stupid. He knows he needs Catholic votes to be viable.

How can Hucklebee, a literalist fundamentalist, get along with a faith who worships the Virgin Mary.

Or believes in Purgatory?

Or who believes in a deified infallible Pope?

I'm not saying that I have a problem with those things.

It's just that Hucklebee in the past has proclaimed incredulity to non-Biblical Mormon traditions, but says nothing about non-Biblical Roman Catholic Traditions.

Hucklebee knows who he can and can't diss without being proclaimed un-American.

McCain has this sowed up.

Those who believe otherwise are simply allowing hope to overcome reason.

He's not the best horse we had, but he's the horse we'll ride in the big race.

I hope Huckabee is successful in getting a brokered convention.

He may be. But I see no reason to believe he'd end up with the nomination, or the VP slot.

He certainly is nobodies puppet.

No, he's not. But I do wonder about his wisdom. Guess we'll see what happens.

This fellow has zero ZERO shot at winning come November and yet he’s more than happy to play along with the MSM and be a source of their amusement.

He's dreaming. Ain't gonna happen. McCain will have a majority of delegates by summer. He won't even need Romney's.

It’s over. Accept it

I remember my brother saying that on SuperBowl Sunday when the Patriots went up 14 to 10 with a little over 2 minutes to play.

All I'm trying to point out is what Yogi Berra said long ago...
"it ain't over til it's over"

I don’t hate Romney. I hate what he did to the conservative movement this year and that flacks continue to try to pretend that he didn’t do what he did (support gay scout masters, pass a bill supported by Edward Kennedy for compulsory healthcare that is indistinguishable from what Hillary Clinton wants passed). You can pretend to be blind, but I don’t think even you are so blindly wedded to authority that if Mitt did it it must be good. You KNOW.
