The remedy is a lawsuit for fraud or negligence, same as in every other area. The likelyhood of choosing a poor caregiver goes down, not up, if we know that we have to do a bit of investigation on our own before choosing a doctor, rather than taking the doctor closest to us in our insurance plan and relying on a licensing system (not working very well . . . lots of drug dealers posing as doctors and very poor caregivers under the current system). Our current government regulated system is overpriced, does not fund preventative care or nutritional care and research at all, etc.

Have you read “The Fatal Conceit”? It’s hard to talk to someone that doesn’t understand free market economics about free market economics. You really have let yourself fall into socialist/nanny state thinking, whether you know it or not.

Slippery slope. The examples you cite were an abuse of freedom, because responsibility wasn’t enforced by the other members of society- (that is enacted through a government of, by and for the people- which we certainly don’t have now.) Look where it’s led- we’re now choosing between an outright commie and an emotionally unstable traitor to the Constitution.

Instead, people sit around and complain about abuses like your examples, and demand that some politician deal with it, instead of taking care of it themselves. Yes, it’s more work.

I’ll take freedom, thank you- along with the inevitable responsibility. It doesn’t scare me, unlike most Americans. Sad that it’s come to this.

because responsibility wasn’t enforced by the other members of society-

I agree totally.

But "government-haters" sometimes act like the "government" is nothing but Martians or little blue men from Venus.

Individuals, outside of expensive power to file lawsuits, usually have very little power to change anything.

The government is made up of people, men and women, honest Americans, just like you. Just like me.

"We The People".

Not all are bad, and not all are good, certainly.

In my county, we have a Consumer Advocate office (forget the actual title) who has done great good (more often than not) in stopping ripoffs and scam artists from preying on innocent people.

The average citizens does not have the power or authority to stop or obtain 'remedy' for some of the abuses of business, whether in health care or other field.

No, I am the last person who wants heavy-handed government to get totally involved in health care or any other segment of American life (except the military).

But there are times that the idea of "government" oversight convinces people/business to do the right and honest thing, rather than the wrong thing.

I wouldnt put anything past the huckster....but then on the other hand a brokered convention might get rid of huckster and McCain....

McCain could be Obama’s VP and the huckster can get a TV show. Everyone wins LOL

The remedy is a lawsuit for fraud or negligence, same as in every other area....... You really have let yourself fall into socialist/nanny state thinking, whether you know it or not.

Every time you call the police, you are calling the "government."

Every time you adhere to zoning laws, or support zoning laws, you are supporting "government."

Every time you stop at a red light, or drive 65 mph, or register your car --- you are registering with the "government."

So please, let's stop pretending that we are all these super individualists who "live by our own creed" without the daily input and oversight of government.

Not sure about you, but I do not have the money to file a "lawsuit" every time I get wronged, especially when dealing with a billion-dollar company which could appeal the case up to the US Supreme Court.... and not blink twice.

This romantic notion that we still live in a pre-colonial wild-west type of America where every individual with a six-shooter is THE LAW unto HIMSELF is not always feasible.

I am a gun owner who opposes big intrusive government just as much as anyone.

But I recognize that sometimes, as rarely as possible, the (WE THE PEOPLE) government does and should play a role in oversight... and preventing harm

Two points in response:

1) With contingency fees if you have a good med-malpractice suit you will have no problem finding an attorney.

2) If you are for mandatory universal health care you are not as opposed to big government as much as anyone.

McCain has a far better chance than Huckabee of winning against the Democrat candidate.
