The McCain Mutiny
IBD ^ | February 11, 2008

Posted on 02/11/2008 5:48:13 PM PST by Kaslin

Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.

McCain wasn't our first choice, but in the field that remains, he's the best choice. It would be disastrous for America if those conservative purists who'd make the perfect the enemy of the good let America go down a path from which it might not recover.

President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.

For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.

Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.

McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."

Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

McCain, even though his policies are better than Hillary and Obama’s, is going to give us many sleepless nights as well.

McCain won’t even do as well as Bob Dole.

Many of us LIKE Bob Dole. He was known as a good guy in the Senate.

I always enjoyed him talking about himself in the third person as if he had multiple personalities.

"Bob Dole wouldn't do that," said Bob Dole.

I enjoyed campaigning to try and get him elected to the presidency.

I can work for someone who is gonna get his ass beat if I like him.

In the case of McCain, I may hold Obama's coat while he goes medieval on McCain.

I will vote for Huckabee in the Tx primary and I will stay home during the general. I’m not doing “as I’m told’ any longer....enough is enough.

"Let me get this straight. I haven’t had a vote yet. The Republican idiots have already chosen McCain, who is a well known negative quantity, and I’m the villain for not going along?"

You have summed it up nicely my dear. I'm surprised they are not just calling off the remaining primaries. This is beyond bizarre.

Sorry. I began to rally around Mitt Romney in January 2007, and yes I’m a TRUE conservative. I believe he was the right choice and don’t feel even a tiny bit responsible for McCain. Neocons and moderates like Bill Kristol and Michael Medved as well as people on the left, who pushed Huckabee to hurt Mitt and help McCain deserve most of the blame.

I am tired of all the neo-liberals pandering on about McCain...and being told to “grow up”, “calm down”, and “shut up”...or neo-libs lying about his “conservative record”

This real conservative will not vote McCain. A vote for McCain is a wasted vote.

There is little or no difference between McCain and the DNC front runners.

When the Republican establishment is confronted with the cold fact that if the party nominates McCain, all efforts to win the presidency will be in vain. It will be forced to “broker” the leftist McCain into oblivion where he rightfully belongs.

McCain=Amnesty=Destruction of this country as we know it. No principled conservative should be complicit in this guy's election. Vote, but don't vote for McCain for President. Leave the top spot blank or write in someone.

John McCain is not the only one who can vote on the basis of principle and conscience.

Gee! Decisions, decisions! The fascist witch, the apostate Muslim, the statist raging-nut, or maybe Elmer Gantry if we’re lucky.

My Republican senator is Mel Martinez. He’s not up for re-election this year. I wouldn’t vote for him if he were.
My Republican congressman, Lincoln Diaz-Ballart, sent me an email supporting amnesty for illegals. No one ran against him in the primary and I’m not going to vote for him.
My Republican governor is Charlie Crist. He’s not up for re-election. I don’t think I would vote for him if he were.
Nelson, the Democratic senator, is not up for re-election. I certainly wouldn’t vote for him if he were.

I guess I can still vote for state and local Republicans. I guess I can.
I don’t know how I can vote for the McCain even though I probably will end up doing so.

Perhaps the conservative Republican (here on FR) could pick several relatively young conservative politicians we can agree on and start pushing them now for next time.

We are better off getting a RINO elected and then becoming the 'loyal opposition' that - LIKE WE DID SUCCSESSFULLY ON AMNESTY AND MIERS - stands up against McCain when he does us wrong.

If McCain wins, it will be seen as confirmation that you can be a maverick, thumb your nose at your party and the conservatives, and still get elected. McCain will then move the party further to the Left. McCain will also view his election as a mandate to pass amnesty.

If McCain loses, he will blame it on the conservatives. The party will be split and it will take a long time to heal the wounds. All things considered, it is better that he loses than conservatives compromise their principles once again.

If Obama is the candidate, McCain will be trounced no matter what Conservatives do.

Amen!

We need to get to the polls in November.

I WILL NOT vote for McCain, but you can be sure I’ll be there for the house and senate races.

>”I am not voting for McCain or any other Democrat.”<

-Me either.

1: McCain actually considered leaving the GOP in 2001.
2: MCain actually considered joining John Kerry’s ticket in 2004.
3: McCain has in fact sided with liberals over conservatives on everything from immigration to closing Gitmo.

Actually, I am hoping that there are at least 10 times as many democrat primary votes cast in the “Potomac Primaries” (Maryland, DC, and Virginia) as republican primary votes cast.

The only way the republican party can fix itself is if every republican politician from county dog catcher to U.S. senator, RINO and Conservative, realizes that they are going to be voted out of a job next November, should the republican party insists on socialists at the top of the ticket.

If McCain is the nominee, the best possible outcome for the country would be a 43+ state landslide for the dims with 60+ seats in the Senate and 350+ in the house. Let the libs drive the country over the cliff all by themselves. I REFUSE to participate in a “bipartisan FUBAR” in the name of so-called party unity.

While not conceding anything to Obama in terms of his incompetence or corruption; the one advantage he poses over Hillary or McCain is that he less experienced and accomplished at screwing over the country. In that sense, he may well be the less damaging of the three candidates.

PS: IBD has the most powerful and logical editorials in America.

Would IBD happen to be pro-amnesty for illegal aliens?
