It’s the fault of the Republican establishment which abandoned conservatism.

You got that right Rush

Yes. A real conservative knows political reality when it’s staring them in the face.

Of course, I submit that many of the one-issue folks here are out of touch with reality. :)

The point is that we survived that and we’ll survive this as well but a lot better if McCain is in there rather than Hillary or Barack Hussein. On immigration, for example, if the rats are true to form, it will remain a controversial with McCain in there but is off the table with a rat White House, just as it was in their debates. Obviously, not a perfect situation but it never is. As much as we bitch about the last 8 years, imagine if Prince Albert or Ketchup Boy were in there.

Look, if you are going to type up some fantasy

Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what part of this is fantasy.

The Republican leadership is committed to amnesty
After the past year of the Republican leadership attacking the voting base for opposing amnesty, there is no denying this.

for 20 million new Democrat voters.
I believe that legal immigrants might break 40% or maybe even 50% Republicanl Illegals will break about 90% for the promised freebies from the Democrats.

The Republican Party will cease to exist as a political force when those voters hit the voting booth
What have been the margins of victory for Republicans in recent years and what difference would 20 million new Democrat voters make? If Republicans are lucky, they will only be decimated.

but hey, the good news is that the Country Club Republicans will be able to hire cheap labor at $5 an hour.
It's the business owners demanding cheap labor and their campaign contributions to politicians that is driving amnesty.

I await enlightenment.

It's this premise I disagree with. If I find your premise faulty, obviously I am going to find your subsequent conlusions faulty as well.

Amazing what a few years of miscalculation will do.

Let me adjust this:

Amazing what a few years of misbushcalculation will do.

A rolling over of the grave ceremony is expected to take place nationwide in memory of the Republican Party on November 4th. Expected to take part in the ceremony include such former members as Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, John C. Fremont, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Dwight D. Eisenhower among others.

McCain is supposed to be a big fan of Teddy Roosevelt.

That's where his big government "national greatness conservatism" comes from.

Trick Question: What state was John McCain born in?

...just a few years ago, people were talking about the death of the Democratic Party. Amazing what a few years of miscalculation will do.

The miscalculation was a total lack of leadership by the GOP. Those at the top failed us.

It's this premise I disagree with. If I find your premise faulty, obviously I am going to find your subsequent conlusions faulty as well.

So you missed Bush's personal attack on the absolutely law abiding Minute Men when he derisively called them "vigilantes" or when he personally said that those opposed to amnesty "won't do the right thing" for illegal aliens?

Did you also miss Bush's Cabinet Secretary Michael Chertoff saying that it seemed like amnesty opponents wanted to "execute" the 20 million illegals. If I were President and one of my Cabinet members said such a thing, he would be gone that same day.

FYI Bush is at least the titular head of the Republican Party and these are attacks by him personally and Chertoff reports directly to him.

If you are unaware of events happening around you, I'd be careful of accusing others of fantasy.

False premise.

If the GOP can survive the nominations of Wilkie, Dewey or Ford, it can handle McCain. Easily.

The phony panic vibe on this board is really trite.

I am compelled to agree. A lot of us are disappointed just now. Many, myself included, are angry. Many are just plain disgusted. It is understandable.
I hope the past couple of days has been a "grieving process" people are going through. So let's get through it and look to the future.
So, what can we do? I'll tell you what. We can "hold their feet to the fire". All of our elected officials. President and Congress.

We can return to the "roots" of FR.
FR and the FReepers have proved that FR is a force to be reckoned with. Many times over during the past 12 years.

Jim started FR back during the clintoon administration and with remarkable results. Let's not forget that.
Folks. Let's hang together. Now matter who becomes the President. Let's do what FR does best. Let them know we're here and we're not going away.
Let 'em know. Pull some socialist crap and we'll be all over ya.
Let's stick together and do what FR did in its early days with the clintoons.
We can do it.

Jim Robinson was the reason I stayed with the Republican party and increased my Conservative roots. I was ready to wash my hands with it all and just become and Independent.

It will be really interesting to see how things play out on FR over the next 8 months. Will it be a war inside our heads? or A war inside our hearts?

Time will tell.

The point is, for me at least, this is a conservative site. It should remain a conservative site.
BTW, Jim wasn't a republican when he started FR.

The FR Home Page says......

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

I, for one, believe it should remain a conservative site. A non partisan conservative site as it always has been.

God Bless
