McCain or Bust...Conservatives, will you vote?

Posted on 02/07/2008 12:06:38 PM PST by WiseGuyF686

No articles on here, I apologize. I just wanted to bring a little bit of opinionated discussion in at this point, now that we stand on the brink of setting American back 4-8 years...

The conservative candidates are out of race, and it looks like it's McCain or bust. How many of you will close your eyes and vote for McCrazy over Obama or Hillary, in order to do minimal damage to America over the next preidential term...and how many of you will sit home and watch the sky fall?

Personally, I'll do just about anything to keep the Clintons at bay, including vote for John McCain.

"What is wrong with you people? McCain absolutely will not win IF you who have posted on this thread, stay home or write in anyone other than McCain. That is what the Clinton's did with Perot and they are doing it again with Huckabee. Romney pulling out shows what a true Patriot he is. We must concentrate on winning and holding his feet to the fire. To do even less would mean liberal justices on the Supreme Court. You can’t change that in 2012. It is not just about the Presidency. Our country is moving left because we have allowed it. We don’t get motivated at the grassroots level, then we whine about not having a true conservative at the polls. I’m holding my nose but McCain will get my vote. It’s not about the Party it’s about the country." QFT. Romney did what he thought was the best for "Party and Country" I would have phrased it "Country and Party" Romney was by far the leader on the last "who will you vote for poll" his decision has been to "do the right thing" I agree, in the next couple months McCain will be addressing the issues that make him unfavorable to us. Give him a chance, listen and if he's still that distastful in November vote for someone else.

No doubt there is a lot of stuff out there on McCain, I never said I liked him, but I will vote.
So who are you voting for?

You misunderstood my post. If we don’t rally behind McCain, a Democrat will win. I don’t like McCain but I will vote for him.

"Your presumptions are incorrect which is why your criticism of my post is incorrect. You presume that Senator McCain is the only possible Republican nominee."

You are correct on that, and that is the bottom line to our debate. I do presume that he is (to my disappointment). If someone else (almost anybody else)can be made the official Republican nominee, than I would certainly welcome that.

"Or do you actually believe that Senator McCain is the absolute best that the GOP contains?"

No, not even close. He is close to the bottom, if not the worse one. But he would still be better than Obama Hillary.

" That is my hope, and I consider it my duty to try to convice Senator McCain to listen to that small, still voice of trumpets in his heart and do the right thing for the good of the nation.

I could not agree with you more. Of course that is what we want. My only debate with you was in your post #127 you said "Senator McCain is a greater danger to our safety and security, strangely, than either of the Dems. I am not fan, but I think he would make a better Commander in Chief in this time of war than the Dems.

I hope you think somewhat better of me now that I have explained myself.

I think your an outstanding FReeper and patriot. You are very well versed, literate and explained your position very well. I appreciate the debate FReind

There is going to be no one on the Republican Presidential ticket I can vote for so the point is moot. I will vote for conservatives on all other spots. I made my mind up on McCain when he authored CFR and I’ve been very vocal about it ever since. There is no excuse for not knowing what he is about.

I will vote McCain, BUT....

I will be more active in getting the conservative message out over the next 4 years.

I will hold those who represent me with an (R) after their name to the fire.
*that means more than emails
*that means more than letters to their offices
*that means more than a phone call

It means personal visits to their office, it means organized protests, it means being LOUD AND CLEAR.

Why this tactic(s)? Because if amnesty doesn’t get to McCain’s desk...he can’t sign it. The President is meaningless unless he/she gets to put pen to paper in most cases. Even Judaical appointments can be stopped by an active citizenry.

We had darned well better keep amnesty from becoming law or there will never be another Republican elected for the next 100 years.

Of course if McCain did get elected not only the MSM but every so called 'conservative' beltway pundit will trumpet it as a mandate for amnesty.

That doesn’t explain the numbers in closed primaries. The three “rinos” generally finished generally 1,2,and 3.

You misunderstood my post. If we don’t rally behind McCain, a Democrat will win. I don’t like McCain but I will vote for him.

I held my nose and voted for the "compassionate conservative" in 2000 and 2004 in large part because the members of the GOP kept playing the "democrat-as-boogey-man" card and because I hoped maybe Bush would come around and become a real conservative. He didn't. This time, I vote for the person I believe in, for the person who shares my values...and it's obvious that that's NOT John McCain. What third party I'll vote for, right now, I don't know. But, it will NOT be for McCain. If McCain is the best that the GOP can do, it's time for them to start their "going-out-of-business" sale now.

Thank you. I swear, it seems like most here would rather live in the People’s Republic of HillObama then grit their teeth.

Sickening actually.

I’m with you. I will not cross party lines and vote for either of the dems, nor will I sit this one out. I will vote for whomever the GOP candidate may be and pray.

The people that would attempt to browbeat us into voting for Juan are the same types that, when the GOP slides even further left and nominates a “Joe Lieberman conservative” in 2012 will be browbeating yet again. They care not how far left the party slides. You could nominate the corpse of Lenin, slap an “R” next to his name and these same sheep would vote for him and demand that we do the same.
