This is my idea, and I am trying to get a read on what you think people would do and its effect...

I voted for the Constitution Party Presidential Candidate in 2004, and it looks like I’ll be voting for their candidate again in 2008.

Would amount to nothing, whole lot of noise, <15% of the vote tops, and could only serve as a spoiler, never win any real pull and be forgotten within 2-3 election cycles or be reabsorbed back into the Republican party.

I am still of the opinion that retaking the GOP makes more sense

I agree but in order to retake the GOP, the GOP has to realise it's mistakes, the best way to do that is to allow it to fail completely. Hillary '08 will lead to a GOP '12. Hillary will be a one term president like Carter. And the GOP will come back stronger than ever. I think we need to take a long view of this...

Calm down, folks. McCain’s the man. Let’s accept that he isn’t our ideal, but rally around him so he’ll win in November. After that, many things on our agenda will become possible — not all, but many. That’s one heck of a lot better than the Dems capturing the White House!

What if Rush said that he would start a Reagan conservative third-party (with Newt as the head)

You mean Global Warming Kool-Aide drinking Newt? He's got way too much baggage as well.

We’d then basically have a small party on the far left, the dems, the republicans, and a small conservative party on the right. The conservative party could grow, but it would have to focus on re-educating those who were indoctrinated by the left-leaning and liberal-supporting government school system—a major challenge.

I’ll tell you this...if there ever was a *chance* to make this happen, the circumstances are right.

There’s almost a perfect storm that make this *possible*—with the current president’s vp not seeking office, the GOP nominee being a moderate/liberal.

With the strength of Talk Radio, the New Media and, even to some extent, Fox News (at least being willing to give the movement a fair shake) we’d at least have a CHANCE.

The truth is, we’d need Rush, Sean, et al, to make the case, spread the word, rejuvinate the faithful, etc.

I agree that this year would likely be a wash, but it’s not *likely* to go our way anyway.

I’m definitely up for seriously considering this prospect.

FR has a third party suggestion nearly every day. If a third party is to be successful, it would have to aim for the 2012 election, it being far too late for the 2008 season. It would also need a candidate first before it needs a third party. Bloomberg is way too late this year.

I think we need to take it back too, and tell all these dumbasses who’ve been saying “Find the electable candidate” to pound sand. They do not speak for me and they are idiots. You know who else the idiots are? Those who say things like “Newt had his day”, and “Fred Thompson looks old/wornout/late/whatever”

I was just about to start a thread asking the same question, or “Isn’t there a Constitution Party we could get behind?” I want to change affiliation today.
With all due respect to your opinion of Newt, I wouldn’t recommend him. Every week the fascist state intercepts and confiscates my child support. Oh, I get it back, after I submit to the state all of my personal identifying information so it can be “accidentally” faxed to the Bank of America. I am now a proud and free subject of the fascist state. And who, exactly wrote that legislation? Newt.

We faced “reality” by supporting Bush and what did we get? Even bigger government. The only thing he is right on is the jihad declared on us, and even then his strategy and tactics have been wrong and costly. Another 4 years of error? I think not. Let’s sit this one out on the presidential level and vote for the DeMints of the world. The top of the ticket is not the only ticket. Let McCain lose. Give the US its Indira Gandhi and we will never go socialist again.

The GOP and Dems control the debates. Perot proved that if people can hear you they will vote for you. Buchanan proved that, even representing an existing third party, you won’t be allowed to debate. The big two will never allow debates again. You have to choose from Col A or Col B even if they are both worthless and don’t represent your views.

However, although you won’t win, you will be noticed. If you are not seen, you are not recognized. That is helpful for the future of conservatives.

If you think conceding the Supreme Court to HillBilly for the next 30 years is long term thinking, I really really worry about you.

We are STILL paying for those 4 years of Carter, over 30 years later!!!

Folks who share your view are beyond short sighted.

It’s too late to establish a new party at this time and the MSM along with the Republicrats would squash any effort short term, at least; but one possible vehicle to draft a protest vote is:address: www.loudobbsforpresident.org

With the way things are going I would not be surprized to see a third party candidacy occur & grow.

1. Hillary gets elected.
2. National convention for the new party will be held a VFW hall in Cut and Shoot, Texas. There will be extra seats available for family.
3. We can be righteously indignant.

That’s about it.

I have faced the reality...true conservatism in the GOP is dead.

It’s becoming the party of pandering, nannystate, socialism-lite. Individual Freedom and responsibility is no longer part of the party’s platform.

And its liberal free speech hating, amnesty loving, choice of a candidate for 2008 will not have my vote come November.

Period.
