What if Rush said that he would start a Reagan conservative third-party (with Newt as the head) if, and only if, McCain wins? What do you think the effects, including unintended effects, would be? Go...

Draft Newt for the first run, and you’ve got my vote.

Newt? Please his 15 minutes are up as well. He is an excellent adviser but his days as a leader are done.

Lessee...Hmmmm....Two established major Leftist Political Parties against one new upstart Political Party. I’ll have to give that some thought.

It would result in the Democrats winning the ‘08 election. But for the future it could build into a political force. It would take sustained effort and staying power. Remember Ross Perot and the Reform Party; they had lots of enthusiasm, and got 19% of the vote in 1992, but that party lacked staying power. Any effort to start a new party will take time, and numerous election cycles to establish itself, and be perceived as a major party.

There is already one. IF we were to found a new Party (I am still of the opinion that retaking the GOP makes more sense) it ought to be simply the “Conservative Party”.

If they have a candidate I will vote for him, if not I will write-in my choice ( which is not anyone who was in the race in February ).

McCain will not get my precious vote. Anyone who votes for him via the holding the nose theory is doing no service to the hope of fixing the broken process.

It may be time for a “Conservative” party, but it is probably too late for this election cycle.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Where’s our billionare with a God complex? A sane minded person with perot money could finance a strong conservative party.

The Dems would still win. Hillary or Obama. Not enough would leave the Pubs to join it, and we’d be split, plus we’d likely lose more seats in House and Senate.

Put Newt’s brain in Romney’s body and we have a deal.

IMHO, Newt is not Presidential material. A smart and brilliant man but not a President.

We have 3rd Parties now and through out history. Problem is not enough citizens rally to the to overcome the numbers in the GOP or Dem Party.

Conservatives, Repub and Dem, when counted together are not a majority. Evangelicals, the same.

This third Party would have to have much more to draw away Repubs, Dems, Libertarians, etc to become a majority.

Perhaps it's best to rebuild the GOP a little at a time. Keep it alive and start at the local and State level to get candidates for Congress who are 'moderate to strict' (for lack of a better term) conservatives that the 'moderate to liberal' we are experiencing so many of.

Newt is a loyal republican and will support the nominee.

Stop grasping at straws, face the reality, and make your decision.

Rush won’t do it, but someone IS doing it. won’t matter for 2008 though, only long term.

1) Unintended Effect: You’d have some people vote for McCain because they wanted to see the new party created.

So Rush might want to wait until we see the final outcome before deciding to do that.

2) You’d probably end up splitting the Republican party, insuring a defeat this year.
