With Romney's pull-out (suspension, anyway), and barring huge unforeseen events, the GOP Pres nomination will go to McCain.
I didn't see any prior threads devoted to discussing a range of VP options. (I did see some suggesting particular people, like Condi Rice.)
As I see it, McCain SHOULD want to address three factors with his VP pick, although the 3d is far behind the first 2:
1. Ideological Balance. Someone to McCain's right on those issues where McCain is left, such as Amnesty, Gore-Bal Warming, Judges.
2. Relative Youth. McCain's age is a factor, making his VP pick more important than such picks usually are: McCain is much more likely than most presidents to become incapacitated, just as an actuarial matter.
3. A Popular Figure in a Swing State. Although this isn't as important, I note that there is little *geographic* benefit to picking, say, Gov. Perry of TX, because TX is going to go GOP anyway.
Thoughts?

i heard good things about Barbor and he seems to fit the bill in terms of balancing out the rest of the coalition for McCain.
Oh, I agree: Although most of any race is the Prez’ candidates’ merits, in THIS race McCain’s age makes his VP pick more important, more scrutinized. A bigger opportunity therefore to gain OR lose political ground, compared to most VP-pickings.
Where did you get all of those? commies.com?
IMO that is going too far. I detest many of McCain’s policies, attitudes and decisions, and I understand many are sore at him for rapproachment with Vietnam without being tougher on POW/MIA issues. I really do. But his during-the-war serice was very admirable, and I can’t call him a Ho Chi Minh “collaborator.”

I’m a bass player. What can I say...
If one can believe your tag line, YOU supported a has been senator!
Hillary...The only way to prevent her from becoming POTUS.

On an unrelated note: I never reflected on how closely Ho resembles Col. Sanders.
C. Rice
Romney would be best but Romney would not take it because Mitt believes that a country is defined by its borders, and McCain has no beliefs other than political calculations.
George Allen maybe
I blame one of my cats for the double post...I do, I really do!
Fred. You get an East/West thing going, Conservative/Who-knows, Stable/Unstable, Old/Really old... There’s a lot of ying and yang to a ticket like that.
And no, I haven’t been drinking.
