Mitt Romney Can Crush McCain
NewsMax ^ | February 6, 2008 | John LeBoutillier

Despite what the pundits, talking heads, and self-annoited experts say about the Republican race, it is more muddled and more up in the air than at any time since Iowa.

Why?

Because 60 percent of the Republican Party is against John McCain.

And the more a dour Tim Russert or an arrogant Chris Mathews says that, “the Republican race is, for all intents and purposes, over,” or this one, “it is very hard to see how John McCain can be stopped,” the more agitated conservatives get.

That translates to “we lefty pundits who dominate the TV airwaves want McCain so we will just proclaim him the inevitable nominee.”

But conservative GOP voters are rebelling against McCain; yes, he gets moderate Republicans and independents who come into the GOP primaries. But the base — conservatives — are voting against McCain.

So I ask you this question: How can the Republican Party, with a huge base of conservatives, nominate a candidate who hates them and who they despise?

This is the crux of the dilemma that is ripping the GOP apart now. Ann Coulter’s "Hannity & Colmes" diatribe was more than amusing. It raised this question: Who do conservatives hate more, John McCain or Hillary Clinton?

The question, more than any answer, is instructive: The fact that we are even talking about this shows how divided we Republicans are and how unaccepting of John McCain we will be.

We feel like he is being jammed down our throat by the left, and by the same inside-the-beltway GOP establishment that has been, frankly, wrong on just about everything from amnesty to Dubai Ports World.

The two candidates opposing McCain are both having difficulty cobbling together enough support on their own to defeat McCain; they are splitting the conservative vote and enabling a moderate-to-liberal win.

And Huckabee is clearly in the tank for McCain. Yesterday’s rigged convention in West Virginia was designed to deny Mitt Romney a “Romney Wins West Virginia” headline running all day long on cable TV. While within the rules, it was a petty, ugly example of the "real McCain" at work.

As the so-called GOP front-runner he should be above that kind of thing. But it tells us he is still more afraid of Romney than he is of Huckabee. Therefore, conservatives are increasingly going to rally to Romney from here on out.

And what Romney now needs to do is simple: pick an upcoming state — a crucial one — and make it a mano-a-mano race, Romney vs. McCain, and win it!

It is time Romney beats Mccain one-on-one because if he cannot, then McCain will win the nomination by default.

But if Romney draws the line in the sand and beats McCain, then we have a new race on our hands. The conservatives will rally to Romney and McCain could still be stopped.

So, Mitt, get going and fast.

Your task is a difficult one: take on not just McCain but the entire D.C. establishment.

Let it all out . . . get angry; show some passion. Embrace the talk-radio hosts, as they represent the GOP base.

Take on McCain and squash him, and soon, maybe in Ohio.

Make the economy the issue.

Do us all a favor.

he’ll turn out the general anti-hillary base, national security base, the social conservative base, the gun owner base, the “balance the budget” base and he’ll get broad support from others who don’t identify themselves as strict conservatives.

“Romney is finished in either a two or three-man race”

Well if finishing in 2nd place in total Delegate count is finished then I guess he and HuckaB are both finished.
Romney will wind it down and take his Delegates (more than Romney) to the Convention and then hand them over to McCain as the statesman. That contrast will be remembered vis-avis the WV back room deal. All’s fair in politics and we’ll see how the Hucksters like that deal lol.

Romney has a brain and he’s playing for 2012 now. HuckaB will get shoved aside by the establishment as soon as possible. He is useless to the Party now as are his Big Government one issue voters.

You are either not much of a Southern Baptist or you undertstand nothing about Mormon faith.
Mormons do not adhere to an absolute morality. There is no judgement and there is no condemmation, at all, ever, in their belief system. This is precisely why conservative Christians cannot support Romney. He is a moral relativist by faith and practice.

“I wouldn’t vote for any candidate who attracts Christian bigots. Sorry, just a matter of principle.-——britt reed”

Well, I’m a Christian, Mr. Reed. You can call me a bigot. You can call me and others like me whatever the hell you want. I could care less.

Here’s why I’m rooting for Huck. He’s pro 2nd ammendment and anti-abortion. Two gigantic reasons why I even give a damn about politics anymore. The very moment the head of the Republican party turns from those things is the moment I register as something else.

McCain is a peace of work when it comes to either. He’s made a name for himself as someone you CANNOT trust. Romney? Yeah, right. I’m sure Massachussetes was falling over themselves to vote for a pro-life defender of the 2nd ammendment.

As for the illegal immigration, we can stop them in the Congress the way we have been. As for taxes, my soul isn’t for sale. Do any of you people think that letting babies be aborted and guns taken away is worth a tax cut???

So yes, I’m rooting for Huck. I just pray I get a chance to vote for the bastard. And bastard is what I think of ALL politicians.

I have read that as a source from NewsMax, but I think I should make a correction, for now, until I can find it. This I know for sure:

The founder of the Heritage Foundation (Weyrich) endorsed Romney, and the Heritage Foundation endorsed his health care plan. National Review also endorsed Romney, BTW.

If you’d like to know about the Huckster, whom you’ve supported, I suggest you go to FactCheck.org. They’ve got a lot of info on his pretense at being a “fiscal conservative,” and it isn’t pretty.

I don’t think KS goes McCain. KS is a caucus state. Has McCain won a caucus yet?

well let’s see what he does at CPAC for starters. He may talk more about his plans for building a border fence. He may be the first republican to actually try to move to the right after clinching the nomination.

McCain would be a disaster. He is a liberal and has mental and physical problems. He did the worst in debates. Why even have debates if the one who does the worst gets elected? There is something off about his behavior and his appearance. Creepy, nasty, unable to communicate, hysterical rages. He appears to hate this country.

To those of you who think the Republicans are finished for the White House in 2008, and that Hillary will be elected President:

In that dreadful scenario, you must rely on the House of Representatives from keeping Hillary from destroying the nation. The Senate won't do it -- too many Democrats and RINOs there. And the House will not switch back to Republican unless they begin by retaking the seven House seats they never should have lost in the first place.

One of those seven is NC 11th, where Heath Shuler, the accidental incumbent, took the seat for the Democrats for the first time in 16 years, in 2006. I can "beat Heath Shuler like a rented mule," as I said in a speech two years ago.

But if you want the House to be the salvation of the Republic, I and other conservative candidates in conservative districts, need your help, NOW. Please. It's important.

I’ll be there for the speeches at CPAC. Won’t have my computer along, however, so I can’t report back on the spot.

You seriously don't think this schmuck has a chance in 2012 after spending millions more than his opponents this year and failing to win in weak Presidential field, do you?

Have you really looked at Huckabee’s stance on illegal immigration ?

His plan provides for the illegals to “touch back” to their home soil, but return immediately while they “go to the back of the line”. He says he expects becoming “legal” to take “weeks not years”. The only way for his stance to make sense is if he intends pushing some bill that drastically shortens the waiting period for legal immigration. So they won’t be “illegal” anymore, and will instead be eligible for all the social services they are currently NOT eligible for. Since qualifying for that government assistance is based on income, people “doing the jobs Americans won’t do” are going to qualify, don’t you think ?

Huckabee is no better than McCain when it comes to legalizing those 30 million and opening the Welfare spending floodgates.

Only Romney wants to crack down on employers, cut off Federal funds to sanctuary cities, and secure the border. We need all three to get the illegals to self-deport and not become the biggest drain on Welfare spending that’s ever happened.

One interesting way to count wins is who has won swing states. McCain has generally won states Democrats will always win. Huckabee has generally won states Republicans will win, at least until 20 or 30 million new citizens from Mexico are imposed on us.

So far, the count on swing states is:

Huckabee: Iowa . . . and Arkansas?

McCain: New Hampshire, Florida, Missouri . . . and Arizona?

Romney: Michigan, Nevada, Maine, Minnesota and Colorado.

Given that Romney has flip-flopped on every major issue in the past five years, I wouldn’t trust him to keep any promise he makes.
