Why Are Many Conservatives Leaders Endorsing McCain? (Vanity)
2/5/2008 | Self

Posted on 02/05/2008 5:58:30 AM PST by Obadiah

Serious question. John McCain has a conservative rating of something like 88%. He is a "maverick" who genuinely seems more comfortable working with Democrats. John McCain has dissed conservatives on numerous occasions and authored such abhorent legistaion such as McCain/Feingold. He is for open borders (depending on the day you ask him).

Now, Sam Brownback, Tom Coburn, Phil Gramm, Jack Kemp, Ted Olson, Richard Land, and perhaps Nancy Reagan have either formally endorsed or have voiced support for John McCain? Why are these people endorsing McCain??

Seriously, I cannot grasp this. Why do I have this big disconnect? I do not want John McCain. Why is he being rammed down our throats?

Is it simply "his turn"? Is it because there is no alternative now? Why didn't more people jump on the Fred bandwagon? Do we really want Bob Dole 2.0?

The MSM have had a love afair with McCain as they do with RINOs like Chuck Hagel, Richard Lugar, or any other "Republican" willing to spit on other Republicans. McCain seriously considered switching Parties. McCain was seriously considered as John Kerry's running mate. What's going on?

“Why don’t you add some real conservatives to your post? No one you have listed is much of a conservative.”

Come on, Phil Gramm talked and voted as a genuine conservative when he was in Congress, even when he was a Democrat. If we start calling everyone who does something we disagree with a “RINO”, the term loses all meaning. Phil Gramm /= John McCain, even if Gramm has made a disappointing endorsement. The problem with McCain is a *pattern* of supporting Democrats on domestic issues.

McCain however at least meets the minimum requirements for a republican president.

yea, one is a row certainly qualifies as minimum.

It’s getting time to get real as Laura Ingraham today noted.

What the hell are you talking about? She had Romney on her show today!

What do you think she meant by "get real"? It certainly wasn't, "shut up, sit down, and settle for McCain because he's your only choice."

“John McCain has a conservative rating of something like 88%” That is lifetime.

Latest rating for 2006 is 65%. Probably less for 2007.

No. And there are WAY too many people on this board telling the rest of us we should just give up and not vote in the presidential election. Presumably so we can whine a lot later, and maby blame President Bush for all of the woes Hillary drops into our laps. No, I’m not having any of that defeatist crap.

Didn’t Phil Gramm endorse him. He’s a conservative.

Phil Gramm is only a fiscal conservative.

He is not and never has been a social conservative

I don’t think my post mentioned who was a RINO. I know McCain is.

These endorsements tell me more about those endorsing McCain than about McCain.

*Arnold is endorsing him because he and Maria want Obama to win. And short John McCain would look ridiculous, fumbling, and nasty next to Obama.

*Others, such as Kyle, Graham and Martinez, are desperate for amnesty to pass. Their handler must be pulling hard at their strings.

*Some want only insiders who may be beholden to special interests. Romney is too rich to be bought off.

*Jealousy.

*Could there be an agreement between Democrats and the GOP? They gave us a gift of Kerry last time, now it is our turn to give them a sure loser? McCain looks like a loser. He possesses not one single quality important for POTUS. He does not even want our borders protected and want terrorists admitted to this country - that is insane.

Because he's not Romney. The first test of a conservative is whether you lie about what you believe to get power. McCain is power thirsty, disloyal and wrong on many issues but at least he doesn't lie to get power. One other thing going for him is that he has a profound understanding of human depravity at it's sadistic worst. It would be hard to be a humanist after the Hanoi Hilton.

/Not for McCain though.

...add G. Gordon Liddy to the list.

Liddy has been carrying McCain's water since 2000. Now, it's getting pathetic. Liddy used to be an excellent debater on the issues. Now, he is equivocating in order to support McCain when a caller challenges him.

It's definitely time for the G-man to hang up his microphone. I was a loyal listener since the early 90s, but no more. He has lost his edge and sounds old and tired. I cannot stand listening to him pimp for McCain.

The words ‘FEAR’ and ‘INTIMIDATION’ come to mind...

"..a wise prince should establish himself on that which is his own control and not in that of others; he must endeavor to avoid hatred, as is noted." He also says "It is best to be both feared and loved; however, if one cannot be both it is better to be feared than loved."

No one endorsing John McCain is a real conservative.

Nor is anyone voting for him.

“those are RINOS”

Tom Coburn is not a RINO. He’s the best conservative in Congress. It is baffling.

Sadly in this situation there are NO princes with wisdom, all left standing are tapped into that vessel of endless pride of self love. Fortunately those being chased by fear have the promise "I will never leave you nor forsake you" the victory has already been declared... for those who hold fast.

“No one you have listed is much of a conservative.”

Tom Coburn is the most conservative member of Congress.
