The Demise of "The RINO" (Or: Be Careful What You Ask For)
WMAL ^ | February 1, 2008 | Chris Core

Posted on 02/03/2008 12:28:15 PM PST by Tennessee Nana

A former Talk-Show host on this station once announced a "RINO Hunt" at election time. "Time to purge the party of anybody who isn't a lock-step conservative," he said. So this host went ‘a huntin’. And he laughed with glee every time a Republican moderate lost an election. "That'll teach 'em," he said.

Ok, if you say so. But I just checked: It’s been four years since his great "RINO Hunt," and each of those seats, where he was so gleeful to see the “Republican In Name Only” lose, is now occupied by a Democrat. Now, why was he so happy again?

RINOS get elected because they reflect the personality of the district or state they represent. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island was a big-time RINO. "Real" Republicans always went after him with fury. "Too damned liberal," they would say. Finally, they got him. His political career ended in November of 2006. That Senate seat is now held by a Democrat. And the Senate is controlled by the Democrats. By one seat. Well done, RINO hunters. Chafee was the only possible Republican who could win in Rhode Island, but because he could not pass your "purity" test, Harry Reid is Majority Leader. Remind me again why this makes sense?

I live in one of the most liberal Congressional Districts in the country. For 16 years we had a Republican Congresswoman. Connie Morella was to the Left of Jim Webb, but she felt at home in the big tent of the GOP, and Montgomery voters felt at ease with her. Eventually re-districting and RINO hunters bagged her, and now I am represented by a Congressman close in philosophy to Dennis Kucinich. Tell me again, angry conservatives, how this is better?

Northern Virginia – you are next. For the last six years you have been belly-aching about those awful RINOs John Warner and Tom Davis. Well, neither is running for re-election this year. But instead of getting your "True Reagan Conservative," you are going to end up with two Democrats who will hold that House seat and that Senate seat for decades, if they want to.

I guess that brings us to John McCain. Yes, he introduced McCain-Feingold, an imperfect solution to the problem we all acknowledge of money-controlling politicians. Yes, he introduced McCain-Kennedy, a very flawed bill trying to address, however awkwardly, the problem of illegal immigration. Heck, without McCain-Kennedy, I doubt immigration would even be a topic in the Republican debates this Fall.

And yes, he was a leader of the "Gang of 14" which got Justices Roberts and Alito confirmed by an ornery Senate. Which makes him a RINO. Which makes this “open season” on him. Please re-read the first four paragraphs of this opus, then close your eyes and imagine the House and Senate with huge Democratic majorities. Then ask yourself this: "Which would you rather see in the White House, a RINO or a Democrat?" If you say "Democrat," go get your RINO rifle out.

But don't say I didn't warn you.

Speaking of RINOS...

If McCain is the GOP nominee, then Republican will get blown out of Congress. This race isn’t just about president. It is also for one-third of the Senate and all of the House.

Liberals will come out to vote for... Democrats.
Moderates will come out to vote for McCain and... Democrats.
Conservatives will stay home and not vote for anyone.

When it’s all over, Democrats will have a filibuster-proof Super Majority in the Senate, and margins so wide in the House that the liberals will run amok.
Republican governors will fall across the country.

This is what McCain brings to the GOP ticket. This is his unseen legacy in the GOP.

Probably because he finally realized that to hold ones nose while voting for a Democrat in Republican clothing only brings one closer to servitude.

The sooner the better, then we can really fight it out for freedom.

Just a wild ass guess, mind you.

McCain

Romney

Huckabee

Obama

Clinton

Paul

All other fringers

McCain is poised to lose on Tuesday. He gave an AWFUL perf at the Simi Valley Debate and that seems to be the concensus. He’s just a mean, Napoleonic liberal who’s masquerading as a Repub. The GOP should have kicked him out years ago, but no one had the cojones. Well, Mitt and the base will do JUST THAT COME TUESDAY!!

I care. There is a difference. And no, I don’t like RINOs. But Democrat majorities empower Liberals and weaken Conservatives. Republican majorities, even if composed of some RINOs, empower Conservatives and weaken Liberals.

Where’s the barf alert ? Chafee was going to switch parties regardless, especially with his being the one seat difference between minority and majority status, and after he was rightfully defeated, I was the one that broke the story on FR last year that he did leave the GOP.

I wonder if the base is actually large enough to make a difference in an election.

It’s kind of funny. For all the noise, the so-called “base” of conservative ideological purists is so small it can’t even influence a Republican primary. Maybe it’s time to start calling it the BINO—Base in Name Only.

Sorry

BARF ALERT

I just saw this on RINOs and posted it

It does have some valid points

Too often we chose the nice guy for our nominee in local elections and he gets eaten by the dirty fighting Democrat..

His tiniest picadillo (like late paid taxes due to high hospital bills) are potrayed as the assasination of the president and there he goes

They hate us and we hate them. They are closer to being the permanent minority, which is what they want anyway.

What do you think? Chris Core, who can’t see pass the polyps in his colon, thinks Morella lost to Van Hollen because conservatives went RINO hunting. LOL!

Because RINOs in the congress were forcing the party towards liberal leadership policy like indulging in indiscriminate spending and earmarks galore in their brazen attempt to remain in power for life by buying our votes. Yes, I know that Democrats are no better, but the result of the RINOs has been the discrediting of the Republican party and what it stands for, an overall weakening of support from the base, and perhaps irreperable damage to the coalition that made the party a winner for decades. With them in power, we were slouching towards a de-facto one party system. And because of them, not only did we lose their seats, we saw previously safe seats in other areas lost because conservatives wouldnt come out to vote for a party gone astray. Remember that lesson before you pull the lever for McCain in a primary.

I hate to disagree, but I’m going to.

The only difference between a RINO and a full-fledged liberal democrat is that a RINO has a (R) behind his/her name.

That’s it. McCain is nothing more than a political Benedict Arnold.

Why is it that there are no “Maverick” democrats who vote and align themselves with Republicans/Conservatives? Oh, that’s right, the democrat/socialist/move-on-.org base would never vote them back into office again.

The base is actually much larger than the MSM would have you believe. That’s why they are pushing McCain. Hoping that conservatives will believe them and rebel against the party in disgust. If we do that, they win. If we try to get out the vote on a grassroots level for the next few days, we can defeat Mc Cain, and thereby defeat the Dems. Without Romney, we can’t win in November. Period

Go to www.MittRomney.com/CallatHome
today and do something to elect the best candidate to win against Bill/Hill or Obama

I'd rather have a Republican as Senate Majority Leader and one as Speaker of the House. Even if some of the House and Senate members are Rinos.
