Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Ralph Reed and the Silent Majority
Where are they today ???????
Folks here are out of touch if they believe Romney has a better shot of winning the general election than McCain.
Romney will put southern states into play, that is painfully obvious.
I predict that not only will your prediction not be right but that just the opposite will happen, that after Tuesday McCain will have the nomination pretty well locked up.
At one point that may have been true. Lately though, he scrapes by with 52 or 51 percent. So not being conservative enough isn't his weak spot nowadays.
Great post.
Hubris will rein conservatives in before anything else.
What I’m saying is that I believe there’s a fair number of Republicans in his district that won’t vote for him or may vote rodent in protest because of his abysmal record.
RINO majorities? When has there ever been a RINO majority?
Core is utterly wrong on this. While we understnad the realities of politics, and the only person I’ve ever agreed with 100 percent is myself, I expect those on my side, in my party (Or in this case, the party that left me some time ago), in my movement, to be generally pulling in the same direction. We may have problems on a few issues, but we’re aiming for the same place generally.
RINOs are something else entirely. They’re Republicans with the agenda of Democrats. John McCain, for example, is with the Democrats on all the big issues. He pads his rating by voting right on the little stuff, but on every issue of significance, from restricting free speech to that fraud called “global warming” to judicial nominations to tax cuts to amnesty, and others, he’s on the liberal side time and time again.
Taht’s a RINO. No conservative who cares about principles should support a RINO. If that means that a Democrat gets in, well, so be it.
The Republicans lost in 2006 because they stopped acting liek Republicans and started acting like RINOs. They abandoned their principles. Supporting them in continuing to do so will only make Republicans responsible for the disaster that is inevitable with liberal policies. It harms conservatism more than it helps it.
At least Clinton and Obama are honest enough to admit they’re Democrats.
When McRazee looses in the fall his myth will be over.
There is no such thing as a Republican “base”. The GOP is a coalition of several groups - particularly the strong military group, the economic conservatives and the religious right. The primary connection between the three groups is that they all dislike Liberal gov’t.
There are many issues where the groups don’t see eye-to-eye, but none of the groups is strong enough, or large enough, to stand alone.
A “RINO” is someone who belongs to a different wing of the party than the speaker (or poster).
The coalition’s strength is in tatters now because it has worked well enough for long enough so that people forget that it *is* a coalition, not a group of like minded people.
No, that is what you will bring to this country. I despise McCain but, I have make no bones I would rather have him than Hillary or Obama and one of those three is going to win. To be honest you are putting him on notice about stabbing us in the back and being very honest about it .He needs to know that if and when he is elected he will be standing on quick sand. But, do not, not vote, that is mad. Being the squeaky wheel in the coalition is the one that will get the grease and frankly that is the most powerful position.
God save us from the worthless moderates.
Why did you cross off Paul’s name? He’s the most complete conservative in the race.
“The coalitions strength is in tatters now because it has worked well enough for long enough so that people forget that it *is* a coalition, not a group of like minded people.”
Absloute freaking A! I have been saying the same thing.
There are no more RINOs. What we used to refer to as RINOs have such a solid lock on the GOP apparatus, that the term has become synonymous with “Republican”. Now we conservatives are the new RINOs!
Thanks. I’ve never heard the situation stated better.
Thanks. It’s nice to hear from someone who also remembers what the party is really about!
After this:
Excerpt:
The Republican Revolution or Revolution of 94 is what the Republican Party dubbed their success in the 1994 U.S. midterm elections, which resulted in a net gain of 54 seats in the House of Representatives, and a pickup of eight seats in the Senate. The day after the election, Democratic Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama changed parties, becoming a Republican.
The gains in seats in the mid-term election resulted in the Republicans gaining control of both the House and the Senate in January 1995. Republicans had not held the majority in the House for forty years, since the 83rd Congress (elected in 1952) under Republican Speaker Joseph William Martin, Jr..
Large Republican gains were made in statehouses as well when the GOP picked up twelve governor seats and 472 legislative seats. In so doing, it took control of 20 state legislatures from the Democrats. Prior to this, Republican had not held the majority of governorships since 1972. In addition, this was the first time in 50 years that the GOP controlled a majority of state legislatures.
Just after the 1994 Republican Revolution, Christine Todd Whitman and other RINOs established the Republican Leadership Council. Their goal was to take the Republican Party back from the conservatives.
One thing they did was to establish open primaries so that conservatives would have less voting power and thus there would be more RINO primary winners. The RLC has done their job well.
Part of the RLC mission statement:
RLC-PACs vision is a Republican Party that is unified by the basic tenets of fiscal responsibility and personal freedom, but that allows for diverse opinions on social issues by its members.
RLC affiliates:
Alliance of Black Republicans
GreenGOP.org
Log Cabin Republicans
Main Street Coalition
National Republican Senatorial Committee
New America Foundation
The Piscataway Republican Organization
Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice
Republicans for Choice
Republican Governors Association
Republicans for Environmental Protection
Republican Majority for Choice
The Whitman Series
The WISH List
The RLC hates the base and by recruiting converted Democrats and other RINOs, they have broken the hold of the conservative base that gave the Republicans the Congress in 1994.
I used to have a link to an article with the headline GOP MODERATES RESPONSIBLE FOR OPEN PRIMARIES but its been deleted. Thats what happened.
I’m not putting anyone on notice about anything other than how it will be.
Moderates who support John McCain vote for Democrats in congressional races. That is a fact.
McCain doesn’t appeal to conservatives will will not bother voting, especially if Hillary isn’t the Democrat nominee.
Liberals will be out in record numbers to support the Democrat nominee, regardless of who it is.
The unavoidable fact is, according to the data out there, is the vast majority of people who will be voting if McCain is the GOP nominee will be people who lean Democrat, and that will bode VERY bad for GOP congressional races.
I am putting everyone on notice so they know what is coming if they choose McCain. Democrat Super Majority in the Senate. Liberal Majority in the House.
It is coming if McCain is the GOP nominee.
Be warned.
