Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

From the article:
The former governor went on to explain, "You don't want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you're going to be gone.
Sounds like withdrawal to me. Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but I've seen too many of his Flip-flops on YouTube already.
Same thing McCain was thinking.
The stage was set, and the fix was in apparently, in more ways than one.
McCain is 5'7".
Regards
Dont get me wrong. I hate him nearly as much as McCain. He is taking nearly all his votes from Romney.
I just checked the delegate count and you are right he does have 37 at this point. So I will concede that Huckabee should stay in. He is, like you say, taking votes from Romney. That irritates me but it is the process we have. You have to admit though his whining about getting airtime was a little funny! :-)
Bring it...
Captain Queeg, "The Caine Mutiny."
From Wikipedia:
"Queeg, a 1936 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and formerly an officer on a destroyer, is assigned as captain of the U.S.S. Caine, a minesweeper stationed in the Pacific during World War II...He is initially welcomed by the crew as a tough, no-nonsense veteran, who will shape up the ship after his slovenly predecessor's departure...
After a honeymoon period, it becomes apparent that Queeg is prone to eccentric behavior. Queeg displays a micro-managing command style and (sometimes unprovoked) angry outbursts. As time passes, he begins to make mistakes that endanger his crew. He neglects to order the ship to stop turning while reprimanding a crew member for having his shirttail out, and so the ship steams over its own towline, parting it. When called on the carpet by a superior after this incident, he refuses to acknowledge it happened, or to admit blame in any way. His superiors are not satisfied, but allow him to retain command...
Another episode which highlights Queeg's behaviors occurs when a quart of strawberries vanish from the wardroom icebox. Remembering how he helped solve a mystery involving a similar theft when he was an ensign earlier in his career, Queeg attempts to recreate his former accomplishment by insisting the strawberries were pilfered by a crewmember with a duplicate key. Queeg orders every key on the ship collected, and a thorough search made. During the search, the captain is confronted with evidence that the messboys ate the strawberries. Queeg loses all enthusiasm for the search, though he orders it to continue, and it is continued in a desultory way amid public mocking of the captain.
Romney is invisible in the debates. I don’t understand these diehard Mitt supporters?
1) Are they paid supporters?
2) Are they Mormons who are feel they have to defend him because he is a Mormon (even though his liberal record is at odds with the conservative beliefs of most Mormons)?
3) Are they hoping for universal Romney care?
There are no conservatives left in the race. I wanted a conservative ... unfortunately, the first five (if I remember correctly) that dropped out of the race were all the conservatives (Gilmore, Brownback, Tancredo, Hunter, and Thompson).
So, we have RINOs left that can win the nomination (i.e. I’m excluding Ron Paul) ... Romney would result in and absolute landslide in favor of the Democrats! He has high negatives and would be bashed to death by the media on his flip flopping ... He spent tons of money in the primaries and can’t get alot of people to vote for him (Wake up ... and see the reality that the Democrats have had many more people vote in their primaries ... and we the contests thus far has been in RED states ... the pinheads at the GOP should be concerned about that for November and figuring out how they can win ... so, the Democrats don’t have a firm hold on the presidency, senate, and house).
FYI: at this point in time, I don’t like McCain or Romney ... my protest vote right now is going to Huckabee.
McCain can beat Hillary and hopefully follow through on being a fiscal hawk on spending (maybe have a conservative VP, only serve one time, and appoint conservative judges) ... He may be better than Romney when you focus on those issues. Romney seems likely to flip flop back to liberal on everything come general election time if he was the nominee ...
Bottom line ... Romney is done if he loses California (and he also needs Huckabee to win some of the contests in the south) ... some of you mittbotts got it backwards ... if Huckabee was out of the race, McCain would win states like Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, etc.
I personally want the race to go on as long as possible so Republican voters can pressure these candidates ... if it is over shortly, it will give the Republican candidate too much time to move left for the general election ... that is why I’m hoping Huckabee does well on Super Tuesday ... because that will extend the race.!
Yes, but his pattern of behavior seems to be an unbroken line from then until now and tonight he was definitely trading on that experience in a way to make it relevant.
I don’t agree with all of O’Connor’s decisions, but that’s rather harsh.
I’m interesting in hearing exactly what you think she did to justify being called a “slutty whore”..................

One word... ABORTION
McCain, on tape showing his “little
dictator” self, and at the end says:
“I would close Guantanomo Bay and move
those prisoners (savage, beast
AQ, etc. terrorists!) to Fort Leavenworth.
I would do that.”

Imagine, having to live in fear of
any of them escaping and what they
would do to any innocent “infidel”
that got in their way. Dear Lord in
Heaven, save us.
Isn’t that the truth? Hard to believe what is happening to our country nowadays~~~
I can remember him screaming at her as is it was yesterday. I didn’t see a 9 year old. Wish there was a video of it!!
Dick Cheney's heart was a major issue when he was the running mate for a 54 year old President. Why isn't this?
The MSM is giving him a pass...age and illness will make great ammo in about four months if he goes against Obama, maybe Hillary, too. They're saving it and Traitor John's ego will not believe that they'll come after him so they all keep their yaps shut.
I wish we could read that guy's medical records. Hmmmm...maybe Hillary already has.
McCain will be a disaster for America, win or lose.
This American Experiment appears to be at an end, and somehow, folks such as you appear to be gloating after the events of yesterday.
That is simply sad.
Swarzenegger said that Hucabee served a good purpose in stopping Romney’s momentum. He said that Romney was a good debater and that Romney had a right to have something to say and besides he stopped Romney’s momentum.
If McCain is nominated, I am actually toying with the idea of voting for Hussein Obama if he is nominated. I disagree with him on just about everything, but I admire his relative youth and optimism(which is what Romney has as well).
Besides, his liberal mistakes can be blamed on the Democrats, instead of McCain’s liberal mistakes being blamed on Republicans.
I am also considering just sitting out. Being in California, it won’t make much difference anyway.
“Just stay the hell off the debate stage...”
Unfortunately, we may be at that point: The time has passed where we argue theory. I for one think that if the package hadn’t been delivered in such a cranky persona (75% of what Ron Paul stands for should be at the very core of a conservative), it would’ve gotten a better airing.
Alas, we are the angry hotheads of an opportunity squandered, and will inherit a foreign Republic in a decade or two.
Have you gone to his website and reviewed his platform? Have you gone to some other places besides YouTube? You will have better luck gleaning more information about Romney that way. I don't want Ron Paul but I did research what he was about. You cannot trust the MSM to give you the truth. Find out for yourself. Not trying to preach at you or anything....just suggesting.
name calling=giggly little girls = You are a tool
there you go again. “tool” . name calling
God help us!
