Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

He might respond to the McCain/Romney dustup by saying, “Let’s stop this silly one-on-one catfight and start talking about the issues.”

Thanks... That is EXACTLY what Romney was saying... we need to gauge withdrawal based on ACCOMPLISHMENT, not on TIME.
McCain is just senile, and embarrassing.

Love that, PRICELESS!
He must have spunned so much in his grave when Sen. John invoked his name that he got dissy.

The dodge was classic, Cooper blew it. Of course...MSM is rooting for McCain. The immigration question will haunt McCain through this whole race.

Your first mistake is using ABC to support your point of view....Romney was pointing out McCains blatant lies...not going into detail of what his strategy on Iraq is. How so?
McCain isn't lying. Romney is.
The ABC news story was based on an interview Romney had on Good Morning America where he talked about timetables. Look you can hate McCain for many things, but he is telling the truth on this one.

McCain always slithers around the fact that he NOW says he opposed the Bush tax cuts because they didnt include spending cuts, but at the time he voted against those cuts, he said it was because it was too favorable for the rich (sounding like a Democrat).
A lot of what he said tonight sounded like a Democrat running. Talking about Romney laying people off and how he had money to spend on the election was right out of the DNC handbook. He's been in bed too long with the likes of Kennedy. Something has rubbed off on him.
(Yes, I meant that to sound totally disgusting. I find McAmnesty disgusting as well)

I should have explained myself better. I agree with you re: a third party run. I have heard the 10:1 spending comment often from others as a critism of Romney and I do not believe it is that simple, as I noted earlier. Sorry about that.

Wrong wrong wrong. It has been well proved that McCain is lying as usual.

So has McCain promised Huck the VP slot if Huck stays in? Same for Paul? Would be smart for him.
