Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

I’m in the South and so far I haven’t met ANYONE who is going to vote for McCain. All Romney people since Fred dropped out.
Bingo. And this strategy is working to perfection. :-(
McCain always slithers around the fact that he NOW says he opposed the Bush tax cuts because they didn’t include spending cuts, but at the time he voted against those cuts, he said it was because it was too favorable for “the rich” (sounding like a Democrat).
LOL. He's almost rivals Slick Willy in the honesty department.
I totally understand, and I've had the same thoughts, but ... I will be voting for someone this November.
My point on Romney is that he spending the money and cannot win a contested Republican primary. Why would anyone think he could mount an independent campaign? I doubt he could do much better than Pat Buchanan in 2000.
What makes you think McCain would offer any real opposition to Democrat demands that he pull out? For that matter, how many times can you name when McCain offered any real opposition to Democrat demands for anything?
I wonder how many people caught that and if it will be recognized by the talking heads.
McCain’s arrogance has gotten him pretty far up till this point.
Gov. Ahhhnold endorsing McCain, Anderson is giddily reporting right now.
tell me what cleese is saying...my fox news has greta
Agree with you there.
I watched online with the Ca. voters responses activated, Romney handed mcain a major butt whoppin’ according to cnn ca voters!
What a hoot!
Fred Thompson will endorse John McCain.
Just for a couple along those lines,
closing down Gitmo and withholding
serious interrogation of a terrorist
when desperate risk is imminent shows
the opposite: he’s a quibbler, appeaser,
and across-the-aisle colleague .. NOT
a fighter for OUR safety #1.
How many times does he have to stab
you in the back?
Cap and trade carbon taxes will weaken our economy!
Perhaps? You haven't read some of her posts then....
Interesting - maybe the Romney fact finders can make use of this.
I still can’t get over those dinky desks they used.
Some kindergarten class is gonna be really PO’d.
I feel the same way about McCain. I will not vote for him. He is a loose cannon. I will pull the lever for the Democrat!
Romney will not be part of a third party movement.
He could conceivable run again in 2012 should McCain win the nomination and go down in flames in the general.
