How many think McCain will simply be this elections Bob Dole? (Vanity)
Jan 30, 2008 | Ice Flyer

It has been some time since the 1996 Elections where a Bill Clinton won re-election over Robert Dole. While Dole was a leader in the Senate and in many ways a decent guy he would never have been the first choice of people on the right. However, it seemed that it was "his turn" and that he was somehow owed this opportunity.

He could not have been a more lack luster candidate.

Are we to get the same from McCain? The field of candidates does not impress most on the right...but least of all do I see McCain being the one to sweep us off our feet in any general election.

Exactly.. McCain looks more feeble by the minute. He can’t keep his mind around his thoughts on stage. This will not be pretty to watch. The GOP may not recover from this.

This election is going to be a total GOP wipeout.

And that might be just what the party needs. We need to get rid of these traitors and elitists like McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Spector.

It’s clearly time to clean out the attic.

Dole was an actual Republican, and was sane. McNuts is neither.

But I’ll vote for Obama, and stay home for Hillary. I am the core of the Republican Party. Buh bye.

I hope he would beat her if that were the choice. However, the Clinton machine will eviscerate McCain. They will attack his age, his temper tantrums and the fact that he is an EVIL Republican.
McCain’s wonderful “bipartisan” relationships with the Rats will mean nothing. His media supporters, the ones that labeled him a maverick, will turn on him faster than a Tiger at the San Francisco Zoo.
And forget his being a war hero. That only counts if you’re a Democrat Senator from Taxacusetts. All that “how dare you” crap the Democrats used to protect Kerry will never be mentioned once the attacks on McCain start.
The Politics of Personal Destruction my A$$. You’ll never hear that term after they destroy McCain, war hero or not.

It seems the left and I don’t mean just the left inside the GOP are orchestrating this election to the outcome they have planned.

The conservatives are all gone and the GOP seems to care less.

Did Soros, the media, the Rats and the Rino’s agree on the outcome like 9 months ago and we are just watching the public show for the sheeple?

Bob Dole would be an improvement IMO. At least it was possible to hold my nose and vote for him. I CANNOT and will NOT vote for McCain. As the nominee, once the MSM turns on their old maverick straight talker buddy and exposes him for the crook he is, he will make Bob Dole’s loss to the first Clinton look like a close race in comparison.

I happen to be of the opinion that the dem nominee will be Hillary (!) and that anyone the GOP puts forth will win. I could be wrong, of course, but I still think another Clintoon co-presidency will be the motivation for Americans to keep The Beast and her horndog hubby out of the WH.

"But I’ll vote for Obama, and stay home for Hillary.'

That's my position, too. I've never voted for a Democrat in my whole life and I don't support Obama's platform, but I hate McCain more. I won't vote for Hillary, but McCain is not getting my vote.

What difference does it make if by some miracle McCain wins the election. He will sign the next amnesty bill and conservatism will be dead in this country.

Long before that. Try 2005 if not earlier.

It's getting cleaned rapidly pre-election. We've had 4 new Republican retirements from the House in 5 days. The pace is picking up...

The handwriting is on the wall and it spells bloodbath.

I am one of those. Except Dole was not an honorable, decent man. Like McCain, he had a pretty-pro-life voting record. But he teamed up with Bill Clinton to destroy the Rescue Movement with the FACE Act—an act which criminalized the rescuing of babies from murderers. This is honorable? This is decent?

I don't think there's any comparison between Dole and McCain. Dole was poor, lackluster candidate. But he was a loyal Republican for many years and there was not a hint of corruption in his career. OTOH, McCain is not lackluster but McCain has spent most of his career betraying Republicans and making sure much of the left's agenda was enacted. He has serious brushes with corruption on his record. So in all important respects, they are different.

Both were elderly and both were decorated war heros. But those are not substantive similarities.

MCCAIN = DOLE = FORD 1976.

Old tired, not inspiring to the base, ‘the senior moment guy’, the guy who’s ‘next in line’.

McCain has an attaction to the powers that be: He will be an establishment, media-fawning RINO who will advocate for amnesty for illegal aliens and work to pass Democr*p legislation and call it ‘bipartisan’.

It will be so unappealling to the base that .... MCCAIN WILL LOSE IN NOVEMBER.

We can stop this dreadful scenario - vote for Romney.

RINO MCCAIN DOESNT FIT - VOTE FOR MITT.

You and Free Republic are the extreme fringe of the Republican party. You give yourself WAAAAY too much credit/

Free Republic isn’t the world, it isn’t the USA and it isn’t the Republican party, not by a long, long shot.

Hillary will take the Dem nomination, and McCain will beat her.

No he won't. On another thread most Freepers said they will either stay home and not vote, or vote third party or do a write-in.

When Freepers and other Conservatives set-out the election, we might as well start, right now, practicing saying "Madame President Clinton".
