McCain beats Romney in Florida GOP race

MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.

"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."

The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.

Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.

There is an extreme amount of comfort for Conservatives in knowing that McCain cannot and will not beat Hillary or Obama in November.

We will be in the minority for 4 or 8 years which is bound to happen but thank God Almighty we will not be responsible for putting John McCain in the White House.

“If WE vote McCain in, the long term damage to the conservative movement will be far greater than 4 yrs of Hiller or OB.
We will be saying its OK for our party to move to the LEFT.
AND MANY OF THEM WILL!!!”

This is absolutely true. A Republican pushing liberal policy would be devestating to conservatives. If McCain is the nominee - hold your nose and vote Dem. Work for a comeback in the off year election in Congress - and hope to strengthen the Republican ranks with real conservatives.

Hell, he won’t win anyway. He only got this far with the MSM propping him up. They’ll turn on him so fast it’ll be funny.

I am embarrassed to be a registered Republican.

I agree. If McCain is the nominee of the party, I'm out of the party.

I wouldn't vote for pro illegal Bush if it came up today and I won't vote for pro illegal McCain under ANY circumstances!

Thankfully, I live in Iowa and had the honor and privilege to vote for Fred but can't stomach Paul McRombeeani.

Florida is a closed primary state.

I think you could change that to "was a closed",

That’s just how tyrants want the people to react. To give up. It makes it much easier for them to rule.

No. If Mrs. Impeached President wins, we giver her twice as much hell as the Left has given President Bush.

We make the Left regret their choice every day and to look forward to the day that she is out of office so they don’t have to listen to us any longer.

Arlo Guthrie said today that he believes Ron Paul is the only one of the candidates who would have signed the Constitution, had he been there.

I'm not sure what Arlo Guthrie knows about anything but I thought it was an interesting sentiment.

It is time to begin providing mucho support for our conservative Republican Senators across the country. We need a solid 41 votes in the Senate to stop everything Clinton will try to do to us for 4 years, including USSC picks.

If we don’t have 41 votes, it’s all over. And I’m as serious as a heart attack.

At this point, unless we get a brokered convention and a conservative rides out of the smoke, it’s gonna be Clinton in November.

“Please don’t misunderstand me. I can’t stand McCain on MANY levels, but to say that you could support Obama???”

We’d be better off with a Democrat president, and then regain the House and/or Senate, or regain enough seats to defeat anything that needs to be defeated.

Then Republican senators will have to grow enough of a pair to “Bork” far left court appointees. (One good thing, the most likely retirees from the SC are libs.)

But we’d be better off regrouping as in 1994 than with McCain in the WH. Any damned liberal legislation imaginable would be passed by Dems and Rinos in Congress and McCain signing the bills.

The third party or fourth party will be our only hope.

The only hope for what?

Ten percent of the vote total in the general election,

one of these in the Oval Office,

and three more of these on the Supreme Court?

You wanted a T-Bone steak, you are only being offered cold Spam so, in a temper tantrum, your are going to drink a bottle of Clorox bleach?

EVERYONE! Get some perspective. mccain has 97 of 1191 delegate. NOT EVEN 10%!

Giving up at this time is premature. This could also be the thing to galvanize Conservative voters. It is not totally lost at time.

It just means it is time to vote, work for, and donate to Romney. Fred was who I wanted but Fred and Romney would make a good pair.

Romney would get the northeast, CA, Oregon, and Washington., Fred would bring the midwest and south.

But do NOT give up now. Work now.

We will be in the minority forever because, sometime after mid-January ‘09 and with a super-majority of “leftist” politicians in control of everything important, the eventual full implementation of the Fairness Doctrine and eventually allowing all illegal immigrants and all criminals the legal right to vote in all future U.S. elections will make it so! Please prove me wrong on all of this.

I could NOT agree with you more. It’s horrifying to think there are so many republicans that would vote for this liberal. They are going to drag us all into the gutter of liberalism and I will positively NEVER be a part of allowing that to happen. The GOP can kiss my 30 year support goodbye as well.

Dennis Miller said tonight that Rudy spent $55 million for one stinking delegate.

If I were a "wide awaker", I'd demand my money back!
