McCain beats Romney in Florida GOP race

MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.

"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."

The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.

Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.

I agree that McPain has gotten a free pass from the liberal media, but my question is, where's the rest of his money going to come from? Mitt still has bucketloads of it, I sure can't imagine anybody here at FR, even the nose-holders, tossing a dime at him.

Next week, Super Tuesday should exhaust whatever he's been able to raise since New Hampshire, if Florida didn't. Even after Super Tuesday, there will still be about 20 states left to vote. Mitt has enough money to be competitive in them all.

Spiraling out of control is right. I’m looking for a new country to live in. 20 million illegals, a lack of balls in confronting the Islamists, pork out the wazoo...the list just goes on and on.

You know what would be the ultimately depressing thing to do? Vote for McCain and still end up with Hitlery as President. Because that is what is going to happen anyways. Yeah, what a thing to look forward to, sell out your principals and still lose, shouldn’t it at least be that we get to stand by our principals even when losing? That would at least be somewhat inspirational.

It seems like McCain is running for Bush’s 3rd term... establishment candidate, war in Iraq, amnesty for illegals, uhhhh... what else does McCain stand for...?
Anything? I’m drawing a blank.

“Huckabee is right...the Reagan revolution is dead.”

With all due respect, I think Huckabee missed the Reagan revolution.

I doubt those numbers include the value of the fawning media.

This Ass-hat is thanking the people of Pensacola for taking care of his family when he was away, during Viet Nam. He conveniently leaves out what happened to this family when he got back. He dumped them!

BTW, his speech is a mere shadow of what Romney just finished. He looks like he’s reading from a script. Uuugh!

Now thanking all of his cronies. Double Uuugh!

My Friends!!!!

Well, I guess I will be sitting this one out. Can not vote for someone who would let 20 million + illegals enter out country without going through the process. Can not support someone who does not believe that the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent. I understand that this is our system and respect it but I see very little difference between the Democrats philosophy and McCain actions. I will have to wait until 2012 or until another conservative party is formed.

“Your defeatism”

I’m not a “defeatist”. I just refuse to vote for a man who betrayed the nation I love. Let someone else elect him if they want to. It won’t be me.

"I'll suck it up and vote for McLame if he's the R candidate. I don't like much about him, but he's far better than anything the dims put out there.

We could probably survive as a nation with McLame at the helm. I have serious doubts that we can with either Obama Hussein or Hitlery in that postition."

I agree. McCain may be a RINO, but he is not a socialist Marxist like Obama or Hitlery. I'd rather vote in a RINO than a Dim. My goal is to keep either one of them out of the White House.

I watched the hearing of the keating five and McCain was guilty as hell in my opinion. I will never vote for him and will do all I can to get other people not to vote for him.

“Maybe he’ll pick a decent VP who can take over in 2009”

I don’t think that will happen, McCain prefers people like Hillary Clinton, I don’t think he could stomach a decent person.

I have to disagree. The Rs in congress will just follow McAmnesty over the cliff (and those that don't will be vilified - like Tancredo was). With a Dem in office, the Rs might have a backbone and prevent some serious liberal legislation from being passed.
