This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.
You know, if it wasn’t for his position on the war on terror and the war in Iraq (which I still respect him for because there was a time when keeping our troops to ourselves was my position, and in fact Bush ran on that platform), I would find Ron Paul a passable candidate.
However, he’s pretty old.

No, no, no, no, no! Duncan Hunter is the perfect conservative. Heck, Fred Thompson isn’t even the least bit conservative. pissant, AuntB and a number of other duncanistas assured us that was the case.
Hunter was my first choice, but this endorsement isn’t going to cause me to switch from Romney to Huckabee.
That is simply not true.

There is a list of 10 items which are strongly advocated, #2 and #3 are the very things the Fair Tax is trying to abolish. Consumption/sales taxes are not in the list.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
The core of socialism is taxing work/productivity and inheritance, the Fair Tax gets rid of them both. Libertarians argue that sales/consumption taxes are ‘more just’ because they are voluntary.
Are you saying Hunter believed in his heart of hearts that Medicare D was good for this country?
Or did he sell out for political expediency?
I think pissant’s vacation just got a little longer. (And I don’t blame him, as this action is completely antithetical to Hunter’s positions over the years.)
I’f you’re really worried about SCOTUS then you’d consider Romney.

Noted conservative jurist Judge Robert Bork endorsed Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States Saturday.
Joining Romney for President, Judge Bork said, “Throughout my career, I have had the honor of serving under several Presidents and am proud to make today’s endorsement. No other candidate will do more to advance the conservative judicial movement than Governor Mitt Romney. He knows firsthand how the judicial branch can profoundly affect the future course of a state and a nation. I greatly admired his leadership in Massachusetts in the way that he responded to the activist court’s ruling legalizing same-sex ‘marriage.’ His leadership on the issue has served as a model to the nation on how to respect all of our citizens while respecting the rule of law at the same time.”
Judge Bork continued, “Our next President may be called upon to make more than one Supreme Court nomination, and Governor Romney is committed to nominating judges who take their oath of office seriously and respect the rule of law in our nation. I also support Governor Romney because of his character, his integrity and his stands on the major issues facing the United States.”
Welcoming Judge Bork’s support, Governor Romney said, “For decades, Judge Bork has been a leader in moving the conservative legal movement forward. As one of our nation’s premier conservative jurists, he has been an important voice for our conservative values in Washington. I look forward to his counsel and working with him on the most important judicial matters facing our nation today.”
Judge Bork served as Solicitor General from 1973 to 1978 and acting Attorney General from 1973 to 1974. From 1982 to 1988, he served as a Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. On July 1, 1987, he was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to the position of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. In February 1988, Judge Bork resigned from the Circuit Court and joined the American Enterprise Institute. Judge Bork, who also served as a partner at a major law firm and a Professor of Law at Yale University, is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Hudson Institute and a Professor at the Ave Maria School of Law.
Vote for Ron Paul instead. Let ‘em know how pissed you really are.

Looks like I was snookered...I thought Duncan Hunter stood for something, and Huckabee isn’t what I had in mind.
But every day there are things he says that turn me off, and scare me about his ability to run a campaign much less be the President of the United States....
Yeah, as I just noted to another poster, even if I were to decide Huckabee is my guy, I'm not convinced he is ready for prime time, either as a national candidate or as President ... for some of the very reasons you mention.
Maybe...just maybe he sees the one last social conservative going thru what he and Thompson did and charged in to his rescue. If Huckabee goes I’m still writing in “Duncan Hunter”.

I think the story is that while this endorsement is sad, it doesn’t do any good to attack each other over it.
I just hope Fred doesn’t do a Huckabee endorsement too.
