This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:
"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of Americas industrial base."
"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I guessed Tancredo would drop first and endorse Hunter, and Hunter would drop next and endorse Paul. Tancredo going to Romney was a bit of a shock, but I can respect the choice (on a strategic level at the bare minimum); Hunter endorsing Huckabee was a greater shock, and either Hunter has made an error in judgment, or his strongest convictions are different from those I gauged him to possess.
I'm close to running out of space on my nose for clothespins, but I've thrown myself into Ron Paul's pool. I'm searching for a spot that the anti-war moonbats and pot-heads haven't pissed in (but hey, the water is warm).

This is a perfect example of why Duncan Hunter never caught on, his political instincts suck.
He is a good man and public servant but a very bad politician.
This sounds like a "screw you" to the conservative branch of the Republican Party for not boosting Duncan Hunter more during his campaign.

Here’s what I know about Huckabee:
The mainstream media and leftists hate his guts.
And they love McCain and Romney.
That says a lot to me.
I hope Huck is in for the long haul. None of the nominees are perfect, but Huck’s better than McCain and Romney by a long shot.

Well, I was a Fred supporter, and Hunter was my number two.. for A LONG TIME, I would have chosen Hunter had fred not gotten in the fight. In fact, I was leaning to him.
I have a theory though. Huckabee is a loser, because he isn’t doing well. Romney is nearly a shoe-in. Perhaps this is Hunter’s way of preventing Huck from getting the nod.
There didn’t seem to be many people supporting Hunter, unfortunately, and perhaps this is background thinking of giving up the loser supporters (those that aren’t really THINKING themselves) to go to Huck, and the smart ones will chose their own person?

I'm a little surprised - most of the other defense industry shills seem to be rallying around McCain.
Free Republic wasn't really supporting Duncan Hunter - they were supporting a caricature of Ronald Reagan who isn't actually in the race. Hunter made a few more Reagan-like noises than the others and bang - he got drafted as this season's Champion of Conservatism.

I’m with you kiddo...and I don’t even drink! To say this is bizarre...just doesn’t come close.
As to my primary vote- I voted for Fred in our early voting last week..and don’t regret it...

I think this just proved Tom Tancredo was the better candidate than Duncan Hunter, who was my first choice.

You could certainly argue that Huckabee's the most principled, conservative candidate remaining. Romney's a fraud, McCain's faults are well known, Paul is out there somewhere and so is his home planet, and Rudy's an authoritarian libertine.I think I would agree with principled. Conservative - I don't know about,
I think DH took a look at what was left and went with principled.

Hunter showed himself to be a complete loon when he did that. It appears today he confirmed his lunacy.

Maybe a little “PAYBACK” time for conservatives that did not hook onto his campaign.
