Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

‘The guy is no conservative.’

Conservative? Hell, he isn’t even a MODERATE on many issues.

"Someone said he was disgusted with Romney because of some deal one of Romney’s enterprises made with the Chinese who made things that were used to kill our troops in Iraq"

**sigh** It's like Dick Cheney and Halliburton: it's NOT Romney's enterprise.

" I am done with voting for DUmocrats with an 'R' next to their name."

Then all you're doing is voting for a Democrat. It was such "conscience voting" that got us a Democrat majority in the House and Senate, and just where has THAT gotten us? They spend all their time trying to make the office of president obsolete. ALL they do is try to grab more and more power via "oversight". They think they're PARLIAMENT. To make it worse, one of them tried to start a war with a country still nominally allied to us and in which we have military bases, they continually diss Gen Patraeus and continually aid the enemy by trying to defund a war which we HAVE to win.

Your conscience won't help you if the Democrats bend over for their allies, the Islamists.

Yet some here would vote for REPUBLICANS with the same stance as the DUmocrats....vote for a RINO if you must, but they don’t need my vote.

“Who is left?”

Nobody. That is the sad part.

I posted yesterday that I’d hold my nose and support Romney, but I’m having trouble with that truthfully.

Huck is simply not going to cut it.

That’s just it. I WILL vote for a RINO, but only if I must. None of the GOP candidates are CLOSE to as bad in every respect as Hillary or the Hillary lite candidate.

Dunno. I’m still confused and bemused by his endorsement of Huckabee...but as I said, he knows and understands his reasons for doing it better than I ever could.

Duncan is a Baptist, number one. Number, two he was the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. These guys push their own little special interests, sometimes. Perhaps everyone should be taking a close look at this guy. He may have inadvertently opened Pandora’s box.

Here’s some interesting info on Hunter:

According to the July 2007 edition of Pacific Flyer, Hunter and Cunningham had pressured the Department of Defense to “...advise DARPA to put an immediate halt to bureaucratic delays and get on with the DuPont Aerospace DP-2 testing.” The DP-2 is a Vertical Take-Off and Landing, or VTOL, aircraft designed by DuPont Aerospace to transport special operations forces, but has been repeatedly rejected by the Navy, Army, Air Force, NASA, and DARPA. The design, of which all four constructed models have crashed, has had $63 million appropriated to it since 1991, not including a suggested $6 million for fiscal year 2008. Despite the rejections and reports by multiple military and civilian experts that the aircraft will not fly or hover and will incinerate Special Operations forces rapelling out of the aircraft, Hunter has allegedly repeatedly added funding for the DP-2 in “earmarks” and defended the aircraft in recent testimony to the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight of the Committee on Science and Technology. Hunter has received $36,000 in donations from DuPont Aerospace.[29] According to his testimony before Congress [3], Hunter compares the lack of success of the DP-2 to the trials of perfecting the V-22 Osprey. He alleges that such long-term testing is necessary to keep American forces equipped with the best technology.

If you trusted Duncan Hunter before, you should consider what he said.

I didn't. I think he's basically a good man, but we're diametric opposites when it comes to trade. I think he has a vendetta against trading with China and he'll take whatever opportunities he can get to score points for that agenda. And I think that's what's going on here, not some super-secret conspiracy garbage.

Interesting. But we lost that edge when we threw away the original plans for a plane that needed no runway to land and could hover, while the Brits continued the development and called it the Harrier....a truly awesome plane even now. Betting on a losing design in an attempt to achieve military parity is not a bright thing to do. (obviously, I'm completely theorizing on his motives for that)

"I think he has a vendetta against trading with China..."

IMO, you and I may have hit on the reason his campaign never really took off, albeit from different angles: obsessive compulsive issues.

unlike you, I do not put politicians I like above conservatism.
In retrospect the Pence plan was a form of amnesty(although
a relatively tough form of amnesty)
and Pence was a moron for proposing it.

Hunter is a big government careerist politician who was not worthy of the title Congressman much less President.

Pence made a big mistake, but nothing compared to Hunter’s votes for big government and pork.

Overall Pence is still a statesman, but if he continues down the path of compromising then he will not be worthy of the title of Congressman either.

FWIW,
I support immediately revoking the licenses of all employers who hire illegals.

As bad as the immigration situation is, it is nothing compared to the threat we face from the left on education and the indoctrination of our children by the NEA, and the socialization of health care through entitlements.

Hunter helped the leftists advance their agenda in Medicare D and NCLB.
