Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

LOL! You'd think one of Duncan Hunter's people would have told him about what his supporting FReepers were saying about Huckabee in here. The savagery toward him.

It puts into perspective how FR's reach has been compromised, when nobody in here knew Hunter had a crush on Huck.

Hunter’s endorsement seems to have had a net repellent effect, so far.

I’m expecting Duncan to give a much clearer accounting of his reasons and he obviously has spoken to Huck and I’m willing to hear him out.

Huck isn’t fiscally conservative and you know it.

Swartzcoff, I don’t know how to spell his name, is supporting McCain.

Love the general, but I would never vote for McCain.

Duncan Hunter is supporting the only other GOP Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, who agrees with Hunter on certain issues such as their protectionist views on trade issues and their agreement on creating the Fair Tax. IMHO, out of all of the remaining GOP Presidential candidates, Mitt Romney comes the closest to what most conservatives truly want on most of the issues from the next President. This stinks, but what can anybody do? If too many people do decide not to vote on November 4, then the Democrats and socialism wins at each and every political level throughout the U.S. Conservatives have time between now and November 4 to seriously plan their next moves.

Actually it begins to seem that there never were any true conservatives running, I think we’ve been taken down from within. How did it happen?

"At least it wasn’t McCain."

Since he waited until Thompson bailed, the whole point might simply be "not McCain, not Rudy, and not Romney.

At least that leaves Hunter a shred of honor.

“I just lost all respect for Mr. Hunter.”

My respect has gone down a notch. I understand that there’s truly little to choose from between Rudy McRombee.....if that is the only people one is looking at....and, if that were the case, I’d be a supporter of absolutely no one.

"Before deciding on Fred, I also considered Hunter. I didn’t just want to vote for Fred because of the polls and the big name. But the real story was that Hunter was also a big nanny stater, loves pork spending and against free trade."

Except for pondering Tancredo, that is the path I went down as well.

Guess if you had lived in the *30s, you wouldn*t have liked FDR. He was in a wheelchair. Guess we don*t have elections, we have beauty contests. Maybe Ann Coulter should announce shes running; she*s skinny, but has beautiful eyes and all that long blonde hair, very pretty gal. I bet you*d be star struck!

Huck is toast.
Any endorsement by Hunter will mean nothing.
Most folks do not even know who Hunter is.
I am sorry I ever supported him.

ROFL! ;^)

And then people wonder why certain radio talk show hosts don’t endorse people...

Oh come one! Don't tell me you actually believe Rush when he says he hasn't endorsed anyone! He may not have said the words, "I endorse Romney", but he sure props him up like he has.

Give me a break.

I always held back a little on Hunter. I liked him a lot and stood up for him.

This choice is not my choice. So be it. I like a lot of people, that doesn’t mean I would put my life in their hands.

I think this endorsement was more from an evangelical viewpoint.

I guess Hunter gave up on Immigration. Probably figures its all over anyway.

It’s in the eyes. Huckabee’s eyes remind me of Bill Clinton’s. I do not trust Huck which is his problem, not ours. These guys are manipulating one another but to what end? I ain’t voting for McCain, Paul or Huckabee, now or later. If the RNC wants me and other indys back, they should be lurking here. Fix the dang country and give me a candidate who can do it! McCain’s robovoice called before I went on line. He RUINED my catnap. Imagine waking up to answer a call from McCain. NO, NO, THE HORROR!!!!
