EUREKA Ca: 01/167/08 Old Glory Media - Mary Starrett, Communications Director of the Constitution Party, announced today, in conjunction with her radio interview with Old Glory Radio 16 Jan 08, that the Constitution Party has drafted a resolution encouraging current Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul to run as the Constitution Party candidate for President in the 2008 Election.

It very well may be time for a new party. A truly conservative party that is motivated by restoring the foundation of American liberty.
I believe that Peroutka (and his running mate in 2004 Chuck Baldwin) endorsed Ron Paul
He brings two things. A name, fringe parties usually don't have a shot at a Congressman, much less one with a high profile, and as I noted the negative aspects of that profile won't be a put off for the CP. Equally important, he has a lot of $$$$. Whether he'll spend it, that will be an interesting future topic, is another issue.
So when the GOP loses the general election, there won’t be any of this “thanks to all of you cut-and-run conservatives” and “stupid Losertarians” rants on this Forum, right?
Does Dr. Paul endorse them though. That's the $64,000 question.
You comment makes no sense.
I don't share your contempt for the GOP, nor do I expect them to lose.
I certainly wouldn't blame cut-and-run conservatives and stupid Losertarians, presuming you're referring to Paul supporters. They're far outside the platform of the Republican Party, classic RINOs. If you're not supportive of the Republican platform in the first place, you really can't desert.
Besides, they'll have their own fringe party to support.
From the 'nut-job' aspect yes. From a vote stealing aspect, not a chance in hell!
He's been clear that there's no ideological component to terrorism, and that the 9/11 terrorists were actually thugs. I'm sure he's sympathetic with the mischaracterization of Islam.
He spoke at the Arab American Institute in Dearborn on the heels of what I presume were unauthorized anti-Israel ads paid for by supporters which he forgot to correct, so why wouldn't Dr. Paul be comfortable with an endorsement from a Muslim paper?
Why are both the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party so “open borders” when it comes to the illegal immigration issue? This is only one of the many issues that truly prevents a majority of conservatives from ever joining, supporting, and/or voting for either the Libertarian Party or the Constitution Party at any political level.
Perhaps I should have been more clearer. If Paul does run to the CP as a 3rd party candidate, there shouldn't be any whining here then, since the conventional wisdom says that only leftists/truthers/neo-nazis make up Paul's support.
So when the general election rolls around and if Paul does go 3rd party and causes the GOP nominee to lose, there'll be the usual gnashing of teeth and calling conservatives "traitors" (when, just a few months ago during the primaries, these conservatives were somehow leftist kooks).
I don't share your contempt for the GOP, nor do I expect them to lose.
All indicators point to the GOP being on the business end of a 1984-style butt kicking. In addition to the natural inclination of voters wanting to see the Democrats get "their turn," you also have the war that many Americans object to as well. Which is why Obama and Hillary have both raised over $100 million while the other GOP candidates raised a fraction of that. Which is why the GOP race is muddled with no clear front-runner. So yes, I have nothing but smug, haughty contempt for the GOP for abandoning conservative principles and not finishing the job in Iraq.
They're far outside the platform of the Republican Party, classic RINOs. If you're not supportive of the Republican platform in the first place, you really can't desert.
Paul's supporters are everybody, but mainly disenchanted conservatives and small L libertarians who are disgusted with today's GOP. If you seriously believe that only leftist kooks are Paul's base, you're smoking crack.
Besides, they'll have their own fringe party to support.
Yes, that may occur. Because for all practical purposes, it appears that RINOs McCain, Huckabee, or Romney are about to get the GOP nod. I wonder why Paul is still being bashed even though he placed 4th in MI. Couldn't be because he's outlasted Tancredo, Biden, Dodd, Richardson, Gilmore, Tommy Thompson, and could outlast Fred Thompson & Rudy if they don't win SC and FL respectively, right?
I am not sure where you are getting your information but the CP is anything but open borders. I questioned Ms. Starrett about that also during the interview. Find below the seven tenents of their party.
Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are:
1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
4. Property: Each individual’s right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
5. Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
6. States’ Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government is reserved for the state and local jurisdictions;
7. American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.
“Paul’s supporters are everybody, but mainly disenchanted conservatives and small L libertarians “
Couldn’t agree more. I have been doing a series all month on third parties and am finding the same thing. Mostly die hard Republicans who just can’t take a RINO again. A “it has to get worse before it can get better” thought pattern. The media is focusing on the fringe as it makes good press to label Paul so, but the vast vast majority are the same good Republicans that we all know, but just can’t take a say anything to get elected Romney or Ted Kennedy loving McCain. This 10% or so of the vote just won’t turn out. If it isn’t Paul, it will be someone someone else.
When I'm depressed enough to have that mindset, I start trying to decide between Hillary and Obama. Which one will destroy the country fastest, while enough of us who remember are still alive to take it back?
That's just not true. If you looked at any of his rallies, or attended a Ron Paul meetup group, these folks are just as nondescript as people at a shopping mall.
Looking at their forums you can see a thread about their second choice and 99% of them say no one.
Can you blame them? You're talking about people who never cared about politics in the first place until Paul came along. Why should they compromise for the same-old same-old?
Everyone that supports Paul is a leftist kook and moonbat. Nevermind all the evidence to the contrary, FReepers will repeat this garbage like an old man rambling at the dinner table.
Wow! That thread is chock full of your former freeper pals. Blast from the past.
BINGO! The problem I have with any of these 3rd parties is that there's no way in Hades they can win a Presidential election (that's reality, whether we like it or not), so why don't they concentrate on Congressional races where they could possibly have a positive impact?
