If there's no FRed and no Hunter and we're left with the four headless RINOs, then what?
January 10, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/10/2008 3:40:52 PM PST by Jim Robinson

The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?

Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.

Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.

Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.

Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.

Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.

Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.

So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.

Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!

I wouldn't count on Huckabee one that one. It's either Hunter or Thompson or I write in Hunter. End of story!

At least the surrender monkeys on the Dem side just want to pull out of Iraq (still wrong), unlike Ron Paul who wants to pull our troops from EVERYWHERE (more wrong).

There is also the possibility that there will be a major event prior to the election that will turn the tide for one of the lessor knowns such as Thompson.

Don’t know what that might be but it always seems as if something big comes along.

Agreed. Plan B for me and mine. I'll never pull the lever for that creature.

Hunter will be written in.

With Bush betraying Israel and now this, I'm gonna get myself a beer.

There won’t be a nation to serve under when we become a part of Mexico. And, I am sure the military loved it when he accused some of them of torture. And, don’t forget his kissing and hugging of the North Vietnamese Communists only a few years ago. All of those reasons make McCain totally unacceptable.

I feel like Huck has lied, danced, and parsed on so many things I don’t believe anything he says he stands for anymore. McCain is a traitor to the party, he’s out.

Romney and Rudy, maybe. If Romney will actually govern conservative, and if Rudy will be a federalist on some of these issues like he says he will, then I might take the risk if the are the nominee, if they don’t do anything else stupid between now and then.

Romney is not and has never been proamnesty.

He was tough on illegal immigration even in his 1994 race.
He vetoed in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
He came out against the Z visa amnesty immediately.
He is tough enough to be endorsed by Tancredo and Joe Arapaho.

To group him with the advocate and author of McCain-Kennedy is completely mixing in the wheat and chaff.

Romney’s position summary is laid out here:
http://www.mittromney.com/Issues/immigration

Stop Illegal Immigration

Secure The Border. Follow through on Congressional commitment to build a physical and technological fence along the southern border, and secure other points of entry.

Implement An Enforceable Employer Verification System. Issue a biometrically-enabled and tamperproof card to non-citizens and create a national database for non-citizens so employers can easily verify their legal status in this country.

Reject Amnesty. Do not give amnesty or any special pathway to those who have come to this country illegally.

Punish Sanctuary Cities. Cut back federal funding to cities that are “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants and refuse to comply with federal law or aid federal law enforcement.

Improve Interior Enforcement. Provide resources to enforce immigration laws throughout the nation, and crackdown on employers who continue to hire illegals with stiffer fines and penalties.

Encourage Legal Immigration. Streamline the system to recruit and retain skilled workers and welcome the best and the brightest from around the world to our universities.

GOVERNOR ROMNEY: “I was at the San Diego border and met with our Border Patrol agents. They told me that more than a half of those that try and come across those fences are able to do so. They said there’s no way to stop them at the border, unless you close down the magnets. And the magnets are sanctuary cities and having employers sign people up that have come here illegally to do work here. You have to end sanctuary cities. You have to cut back on federal funding to cities that continue to call themselves sanctuary cities and welcome people in, as New York has done. And you have to say to employers that hire people illegally, ‘That’s also going to be sanctioned.’ This is the way we’re going to have to finally end it. And the other key point is this, which is having amnesty and saying to individuals, as the mayor has said, if you come here and you’re willing to work here and pay taxes, we’ll sign you up. That’s not the right message. We’ve got to enforce the law, welcoming legal immigration but ending illegal immigration.” (Fox News, Republican Presidential Candidate Debate, Durham, NH, 9/5/07)

This Forum is panicking.

This forum is doing the same thing the Losertarians have done for years. Insist on perfection, and getting nothing.

People should study a bit on the founding of the country and the compromises that were made by the Founders in order to make it work. Politics is the art of the possible, not the art of perfection.

In my mind, in the Primaries, we have to select that candidate which is FARTHEST away from the Liberals and their philosophy. The two candidates who have the best chance of beating Hillary, or Obama, are Fred Thompson (My choice, because he is solidly Conservative and solidly Pro-Life by record, not just by what he says) and Mitt Romney would be my alternate choice (Though he’s the second most conservative of the runners, he’s not as dependable on the abortion issue, and we’ve GOT to have someone Pro-Life to go on the offensive against those barbarous (towards the unborn at least) Libs.

What we have to worry about now is not having Romney take votes away from Fred Thompson at this time, or vice versa. These two men have pretty much the same VERY conservative, and very GOOD people wanting to vote for them. We can’t allow McCain or one of the other false Republicans to get the majority of votes, due to a split of votes between the conservatives on ballot.

Hoping that those who are planning to vote for the liberal Republicans in these primaries will see the light soon and figure if they’re going to vote for liberal Republicans, they might as well be voting in the Democratic primaries for the OPENLY liberal Stalinists.

Logicallly the weaker of the two should resign the campaign and throw his support to the other.

Duncan is the weakest and should resign in support of Fred

We don’t have to do all that. There’s already central american countries already taken over by whitey.

Belize
Costa rica
caymans
bahammas
virgin islands
guadeloupe
etc

If we’re going to conspire to plan a coup in mexico, may I suggest an invasion of the yucatan peninsula from belize? Also, it would be one heck of a morale booster if we could capture the panama canal. Such a move would draw attention and help us recruit more people to our cause.

Yep, You can’t tell any difference between McCain and Al Gore these days. More reason to vote third party if McCain wins the nomination.

I would respectively add “nomination of conservative judges” to your list. I remember “compassionate conservative” candidate GW Bush in speech after speech would always promise to nominate strict Constitutionalists judges to the bench. His team recognized this issues importance to many of us broken glassers.

In 2000, this was numero uno on my list of changes that the next Republican president had to make. I’m sure many others felt similarly and this is likely the reasons why that was one of his staple promises.

The Harriet Meir's(sp) incident confirmed this issue’s importance. Conservative backlash forced Bush to drop this nominee and put up a person the vast majority of us would have confidence would follow the Constitution.

“Conservatism is slowly dying in the U.S.”

Haven’t you been listening to the media drumbeat since 1994?

“Conservatives” are evil, hate-filled, uncaring and stupid people that drive pickups with confederate flags, run down blacks in the streets, and would kill every gay in America.

“Conservatives” are the double-wide living American Christian Taliban, a HATE-GROUP willing to set America back a thousand years because of our stands against “Equal Marriage” and “Gay Civil Rights”.

“Conservatives” are NAZI’s, Fascists’s or whatever(Insert favorite insult here)

Get with the propoganda, dude!
