Jack Kemp Endorses McCain (thought Kemp was a conservative)

Monday, January 7, 2008 8:01 AM

U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that Jack Kemp has endorsed John McCain for president.

"I am proud to support John McCain for president," said Jack Kemp. "John McCain is the only candidate who can be trusted to cut taxes, eliminate wasteful spending and enact conservative pro-growth policies to expand the economy. John McCain is the best choice to lead America to a more prosperous and secure future."

John McCain thanked Mr. Kemp for his support, stating, "I appreciate the support of my friend Jack Kemp. As an architect of the Reagan tax cuts and champion of pro-growth policies, I value Jack's advice and counsel."

Jack Kemp served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush and as a member of Congress from New York for 18 years. A strong proponent of supply side economics, Mr. Kemp co-authored the 1981 Reagan tax cuts and later co-founded Empower America, a free-market think tank. He serves as a nationally syndicated columnist on economic and foreign policy issues.

Oh yeah, Bob Dole’s old running mate.

Meh, not surprised either - an East Coast RINO should endorse an AZ RINO.

“As an architect of the Reagan tax cuts and champion of pro-growth policies”

McCain wasn’t in Congress when the Reagan tax cuts passed but he was when GWB proposed more modest tax cuts and he was the leader in opposing them!

Jack Kemp is a proto-RINO. No surprise.

Nothing was wrong with you. Something went wrong with Kemp.

His main jump-the-shark moment was his “debate” with Algore. That was the most pathetic, infuriating, shoe-throwing, anticlimactic mess I’ve ever seen.

At some point the sharp, passioante, principled firebrand Jack Kemp had a spine-ectomy and turned into a zombie.

Very disappointing on Jack Kemp’s part. I guess he doesn’t have a problem with the open borders crowd.

I will not support McCain after the immigration/amnesty bill or his disasterous McCain/Feingold “campaign reform” legislation.

Conservatives should not forget that John McCain is no conservative.

Thompson/Hunter in 2008!

Jack Kemp was a great quarterback.

But he got sacked this time and got a serious head injury. Either that, or he's bought into the Chamber of Commerce open borders nonesense.

Kemp endorses McAmnesty?

Wow. I used to really admire Jack Kemp.

The operative part of that sentence being the “used to” part.

It makes me wonder how Reagan would do on a Free Republic poll if he was running today, considering that virtually his entire inner circle has been referred to as RINOs at one time or another.

What an endorsement!! I’m sure this endorsement will have a zip, zero, nada, effect on the election.

From what I’ve seen of late, I think they may have have pulled the drain plug. One quart low just doesn’t address what I see. LOL Good one.

He was pathetic in his debate with Al Gore. Whe Al Gore was calling the GOP a bunch of racists, and was making an exception for Jack Kemp, Kemp stood there like a goofus and thanked Gore. What an idiot instead of defending the party of Lincoln.

I remember that debate well. Gore killed him. After that debate, I knew that Kemp was just a blow dried blowhard.

That blowhard Larry Kudlow on CNBC is also pushing McCain. As Rush said today “the old boys club”. Their world revolves around Washington DC and Manhatton.
