What About Duncan Hunter?
Heartford Courant ^ | Jan. 4, 2008 | David Lyon

Posted on 01/05/2008 9:00:37 AM PST by AuntB

The Courant missed a Republican candidate for president during its front-page profile news series ["Defining Moments"] and its editorial series [Dec. 31, Jan. 2, "Countdown To Iowa"]. That candidate is Rep. Duncan Hunter, from the San Diego area of California.

Hunter has a solid and consistent record of achievement and service since he was first elected to Congress in 1980. A Vietnam war veteran, his family has a strong military heritage. He is a man of courage and integrity who is willing to tell the truth, even if it isn't politically correct. He's not a fly-by-night, one-issue or offbeat candidate.

In our republic, the role of the media is to provide information to the citizens, so they can select their leaders and help to decide the direction of our country. The media should not be choosing our leaders for us. The voters should be informed about all the candidates; then they can decide who will win. If The Courant can provide information about low-polling Democratic candidates (such as Joseph Biden, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich), then it can do so for Duncan Hunter. His website is www.gohunter08.com.

When the voters know about all the candidates, then they can decide for themselves who should lead our country.

David Lyon

I admire Duncan Hunter. He’s a fine man and has been an outstanding Congressman - and would make a good president. Unfortunately (and unfairly, perhaps) he cannot get the nomination. I hope the next president - who I’m confident will be a Republican - will consider Hunter for Secretary of Defense.

If the media gets their way, we’ll all be saying “Fred, who?”

This stunt is being pulled on Hunter and Thompson and there you are playing their game. Be careful what you wish for.

There’s an amazing quantity of articles about how the media is ignoring Hunter... does anybody see the inherent joke in this? Hunter has no support, and no money, if you want the media to pay attention to you it helps to give them a reason, like polling well, getting a measurable result in Iowa, or at least saying something controversial and getting somebody mad at you.

What about him? He’s going nowhere. Time for conservatives to combine for Fred, otherwise we’re gonna Mitt McHucklebee as the nominee.

So, what's the difference??? They all have the same goals, ideals, etc...

You're just swayed by personalities...

I've got one vote...It goes to Hunter...Period...

He’s the only candidate that I will vote for in the primary or the general election.

Great, thanks. I wonder if I was pinged to that one. I sure missed it if I was.

I feel sorry for you, Petronski, that you feel you have to stoop to this level.

Shame on you.

Exactly right. We are not nominating and electing a president. We want a soap opera character. God, Help us!

What else would you expect from the Clintonista wing of the Republican party?

MSM appears afraid of him, has deliberately ignored him to prevent him from getting name recognition and prevent people from hearing his message.

And he appeared to ignore the people of Iowa, choosing not to go out and campaign and get to meet them, etc. He could have built an organization and gotten funding and recognition, but he displayed poor judgment by skipping that, IMHO.

How can this guy lose?

By choosing not to campaign wisely.

Ever since the Kennedy Nixon debate people relying on the media have chosen candidates for bad reasons. That’s the world we live in, yet somehow we survive.

It’s a shame that this is happening because Duncan Hunter is his own man.

Hey, I have been baited, harrassed and even threatened(one of the other candidates supporters told me to get off Free Republic and never post again). It’s still not going to change my mind. I am a solid Duncan Hunter supporter. He is the best person for the job. I sincerely believe he is for the people and America.

The bottom line is I want real change and Duncan Hunter is the candidate that will do that.

The real shame is if we continue to allow people that don’t care a fig about America or it’s people to be elected.

We have a real opportunity here to elect a man who does.
