GARLAND, Texas An essay that won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert began with the powerful line: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."
While gripping, it was not true and now the girl may lose her tickets after her mom acknowledged to contest organizers it was all a lie.

If I had to choose among the cotton candy, I'd pass on Miley. Young Miss Michalka has a face that knocks me out. That jail bait baits me . . . |
I tease my daughter for liking Hannah Montana. But, there are worse things a little girl could be into. I guess I can be faulted for liking Menudo when they were big or the Monkees when they had a reunion thing in ‘86. Both manufactured bands, just like Hannah Montana.
Oh my achy breaky heart
For sure it was suppose to be written by the kid, not the kids dumb-ass mother.
;-)
I read the article. The whole Hannah Montana craze is stupid. It’s hard to believe that anyone would let their kids get so carried away with a dumb TV show that they would spend hundreds of dollars for tickets to see her in person.
As for your 8 year old son, he needs to turn off the boob tube and go play outside. Good parents monitor what their kids watch on TV. Hannah Montana is garbage.
A potential Hillary Clinton in the making...
With a mother like this, I see nothing good in this little girl’s future.
Her mother is quoted as saying she did what she needed to do to win.
What BS!! I work with 6,7, and 8 year olds and I can tell you this child did not think of this by herself. What a piece of work that mother is!!
The handwriting was not of a 6 yr old.
Ditto. But I had the same hopes for Jamie Lynn Spears when she was 14 (despite the fact that her name sounds like a porn star.)
The new America way.
What about it is "garbage?" I've watched with my seven year old daughter at it seems fine. Did I miss something?
I’m curious - if your 10 year old hates Hannah Montana - what does interest her?
A kid liking a pop star is nothing new ... and parents finding the pop star “garbage” isn’t new either ...
Just because safeasthebanks son likes something on television doesn’t mean he’s not outside playing...
For pete’s sake - your strong opinion about a kids show is rather silly ...
As to the incident with a 6 year old writing the essay - no WAY this kid did it on her own ... for that matter the kid may not have known that her mom wrote it ... though I do think they should take the tickets away - and for that matter hold the mom responsible and make her pay for any other gifts she may have gotten in the win.
Six year olds do not write “essays”. Methinks it was the Mom who lied.

Hannah Montana is a marketing entity. Witness the scads of marketing tie-ins to this ‘personality’. She is not a celebrity, she is a sales gimmick meant to milk parents of their money to the tune of millions of dollars.
It works!
Now they are teaching 6 year olds to cheat and lie to win.
Exactly.
