A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 200,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Every year as the clock nears midnight on December 31st, the eyes of the world turn once more to the dazzling lights and bustling energy of Times Square. Anticipation runs high. New Year's Eve is in the symbolic center of New York City "The City That Never Sleeps".
New Year's Eve in Times Square is chaotic, crowded, and out of control. People begin arriving late in the afternoon on New Year's Eve. By approximately 6:00 p.m., the Bow Tie of Times Square (42nd to 47th Sts. Between Broadway & 7th Ave.) is fully closed to traffic.
Times Square has achieved the status of an iconic world landmark and has become a symbol of its home city. Times Square is principally defined by its animated, digital advertisements. Known simply as One Times Square, it is famed for the "ball" which "drops" from a tower on its roof every New Year's Eve.
The "New" New Year's Eve Ball
Each year, millions of eyes from all over the world are focused on the sparkling Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball. At 11:59 p.m., the Ball begins its descent as millions of voices unite to count down the final seconds of the year, and celebrate the beginning of a new year full of hopes, challenges, changes and dreams.
On October 4, 2007, the co-organizers of New Years Eve in Times Square (Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment) unveiled the new LED Crystal Times Square New Years Eve Ball at a press conference at Hudson Scenic Studio in Yonkers, New York. 2008 year marks the 100th birthday of the New Years Eve Ball, a universal symbol of celebration and renewal.
Auld Lang Syne - Traditional
The world holds its breath...and cheers as the clocks strike twelve. As the famous New Year's Eve Ball descends from the flagpole atop One Times Square, an estimated one million people in Times Square, millions nationwide and over a billion watching throughout the world are united in bidding a collective farewell to the departing year, and expressing our joy and hope for the year ahead.
WATERFORD CRYSTAL created an exclusive Let There Be Light design for the crystal triangles on the new Ball. Designed and crafted by Waterford artisans in Ireland, Let There Be Light features a dramatically stylized, radiating sunburst on each of the 672 crystal triangles. Due to the new design and technical innovations, this represents an increase of 168 crystal triangles from last years Ball. And, for the first time, the crystal triangles will feature cutting on both sides. The double cutting maximizes the light refraction within the crystal triangles.
The new Times Square New Years Eve Ball is more than twice as bright as the old one, with enhanced color capabilities and state-of-the-art LED lighting effects. Waterford Crystal crafted a beautiful new design for the crystal triangles on the Ball. Philips Lighting provided new solid state lighting technology that substantially increased the brightness, energy efficiency, and color capabilities of the Ball. And Focus Lighting developed a spectacular and unique lighting design for the new Ball on its 100th birthday.
Times Square at 12:00 AM January 1
We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called "Opportunity" and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

My red dress is in the cleaners, Billie, so I am just wearing my red shirt in Support of our Troops today!Well, tomorrow's dress can be any color - doesn't have to be red. :)

WOO HOO!
It’s my wireless router! A very patient and kind Grande cable technician put me through the paces on my computer to find the problem..He finally had me disconnect the modem from the router and plug it directly into my laptop..and voila..I could click on tinypic and can see all of the pictures and frames
..I experimented with the router’s antennae..plugged the modem back into the router and I can still see everything..Thought it was worth a try before calling Linksys about my router settings.
I must get my laptop back to my room and the heating pad..
Getting into the maze of wires on the floor is not great fun for me!

Oh,
Aqua, I'm Sorry; (and Embarrassed, Lol!) For Some Reason I Wrote GeeBee's Name into my Thanks for the Thread; I'm Surprised that I don't Do Things Like that More Often, because I Tend to Post in a Hurry At Times. (And Thank you for this Beautiful Thread!) Please Accept my Apologies, and Picture One of those Blushing Smilies I've Seen on Occasion!
'Dita, I don't Like to Dress Up when I Go Places, either; Actually, I've Always been a Clod-Kicking Tomboy, Lol, who Loves to be Comfortable! : )
GeeBee, Thank you for your Happy New Year Wishes, and I Hope yours is Wonderful, as Well. If my Intermittent TV Reception will Allow me, I'll Watch the Dropping of the Ball.
Meg and jaycee, I Hope you are Both Feeling Better Soon.
Billie, Thank you for your Kind Posts that are Always a Blessing.

Well Diver, I suspect that Pennzoil 10/40 is about the only one we gals haven’t tried. If it wasn’t an oil for cars, we would probably use it all over! AND it would probably be good! LOL~~~

Just looked for it and found it..and posted to you..Yes..It was frustrating not only not to see mine but others..! This was anew experience because th main page links to photobucket wouldn’t work. tinypic and photobucket both go down for maintenance at times but this was different..
I know how to disconnect my router now and plug the modem directly into my computer in case the router dies.so I have new knowledge to boot.

You've made me feel good saying these nice things. So many times when I see the small posts that you make I wonder why you don't put together a whole opener Post. It's obvious that you could do a good job with it.
Finding the content is always the hardest part for me but sometimes it finds itself. For instance, didn't know there was a new "Ball" this year until I typed in Times Square in Google and the info just showed up.
To: Kitty Mittens; GodBlessUSA
You weren’t off base in thanking Gee Bee since she did a good job in downloading the Michael Buble (pronounced Boo-blay) songs which helped complete the Post. I’ve been enjoying them and hope others are too.

Thank you, Aqua
I have a tremor that really is bad on some days..”Time sensitive” threads would just not be for me..I never know which day when it will get where I cannot use the mouse because my hand won’t stay still.
I frame a lot of graphics at once and keep them handy..I forget I have a tremor because I have learned certain motions trigger it wildly..and I just avoid them..Some days, though..it is just”there”.I cannot sign my name at times. It used to be worse..or I have learned to compensate..Whatever..it doesn’t upset me as it once did.
Counting my many blessings!

Hi everyone..... home tonight.. YIPPEE.. I do like to go, go, go but it is nice to be home. I have a couple computer projects to work on & overwhelming amount of home projects.. wont get a lot done but will be nice to piddle.
Meg... I do understand about the heating pad. I have two.. and at night I sometimes about crawl to my sleeping area & takes me a long time to find a half way comfortable way to rest. The HPs are on my back.. upper & lower. It does help & by morning I am better.. BUT if I just didn’t have to do anything.. after a couple hours of minimal housework pain is again back.
It is normally pretty sore already when I take the dogs out... the few times I am not doing housework & just computer projects, my back is so much better for doggie outings. I do believe if it were not for the dogs I would be in worse shape. I am regularly going out when I otherwise would be in more.
I am going to a black tie event New Years Eve & not sure what I will wear. maybe black. I have a few different choices but wear them so infrequenlty I need to try on to see what will work(fit) etc..
Still seeing a LOT of movies... I have two mega theaters w/in 5 miles of my home & lots of folks wanting company.. how can I refuse.
THe Great Debaters was the last I saw..HIGHLY recommend it.. true story & I love to pieces Denzel Washington.. So many other good ones.. different strokes for different folks.. Sweeny Todd was well done but will NOT be everyone’s cup of tea. Last year for Christmas eve I saw Nativity Story.
This year we saw a flick about a serial killer..

My last “viewing” of Times Square was in the movie I AM Legend.. not exactly the Time’s Square we think of for New Years Eve..
The thread is so nice aqua.. and our dear GeeBee helped you also with music. I have so much enjoyed the music she provided for my Christmas threads. I also made CDs for gifts out of the music.. two of them eventually.
GeeBee.. did you take your daughter to see Water Horse yet?
