Rumor circulating on the Fred08 blog that there is going to be a major "surprise" announcement coming this morning.
Perhaps an NRA endorsement or a major political figure?
“Did they, by the way? Havent seen much news today. But Id be pretty darn surprised if the NRA endorsed Fred Thompson.”
I haven’t heard anything about an endorsement from the NRA. Why do you think they would not endorse Fred Thompson? I believe they will because they are likely to look at other issues along with the 2nd ammendment issue. I also wonder if they will make an endorsement during the primary.
“Losing in Iowa and then in New Hampshire... the same as what many seem to say will cause Thompson to leave.”
I don’t believe losing both states is enough to drive Thompson out of the race. What will doom any candidate is failure to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in IA or be among the top two finishers in NH. While it is entirely possible that Fred will be among the top 3 in Iowa, I’ve seen no evidence he’ll come in first or second in NH. In fact, the latest Rasmussen has Fred!! at 3% and behind Ron Paul: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/nh/new_hampshire_republican_primary-193.html
As to Romney, I’ve seen no evidence he won’t be in the top 3 in IA and among the top 2 in NH. So even if Mitt comes in second in both states, he stays in good shape.
As it stands now, it’s likely Huck, Mitt and one other person come out of Iowa alive. The top 2 in NH are likely to be Mitt and McCain.
It’s likely Mitt is the only viable candidate after NH. So I still don’t see a scenario where Mitt leaves the race.
But, if you have one, I’m all ears.
That’s me, baby!
“So, why is there such a strong following for rudy and romney? Youve done a good job making me understand the huckabee phenomenon. But the romney and rudy followers just dont make any sense to me.”
Well, one thing both have is Executive experience. Fred has zip, zero, nada. It’s not a slam on Fred. It’s just the Truth.
When was the last time the GOP nominated a Senator for President and won?
“Came across as a pompous ass.”
Can’t disagree there.
Thanks. Baby boy and Mom are doing good, just a little breathing issue from being two weeks early. 8lb 1 oz New Conservative in the world.
Looks like I missed on hell of a party...
Woof!
Congratulations on your new baby boy! What did you name the little baby jonesie?
We want to see pictures of the newest little FReeper!
Again Congrats to you and your wife!
I guess I don't know my own strength.
It could come at any minute.
Stay tuned!
Congrats jonesie...
So glad all went well for you and especially the Mrs and baby today...
And no...I think it was us who missed the party...
We were just listening to the "Checkers Show"...LOL
Still waiting...........
“Thompson wore Gucci shoes to the Iowa State Fair. Fox thought it was worthy of news.”
I hadn’t heard the Gucci thing. It sounds like something Brit Hume might report on in The Grapeline segment. Or was it some other show like Fox and Friends?
Assuming Fox got it right(they’re pretty good about that sort of thing), that doesn’t sound like something to get excited about.
Is that all there is to it? Fred attacks Fox News because they reported he wore Guccis to a State Fair?
Wow...
SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE
“Nope, I do not expect any good answer from many (not all) of Fred Thompson supporters on FR.”
What’s your opinion of Fred?
This “surprise” is taking a bit of time....
It’s just like Thompson to make us wait, hm? :-)
“Their disdain for Fred Thompson is so palpable. I just don’t get it.”
Why is it disdain? Did Fox get the story wrong? Is this the story that set Fred off?
Congratulations!
Al-most there.
Stay on target.
Maybe he’s going to get into the race.
