GOP contender will not rule out third-party run [Guess Who?]

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Texas Rep. Ron Paul refused to rule out a third party bid Sunday if he fails to win the Republican Party presidential nomination.

When Tim Russert of NBC’s 'Meet the Press' asked the Texas congressman if he’d consider an independent bid, he replied: "I have no intention of doing that."

When pressed by Russert to state unequivocally that he would not, Paul demurred. "I deserve one weasel wiggle now and then, Tim!"

Paul lost to Phil Gramm in the 1984 Texas Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. Four years later, he ran for president as the Libertarian Party nominee.

The Republican presidential contender — who has an intensely loyal national following — is pulling in record fundraising sums, prompting speculation that he may continue his White House bid even if he does not fare well among Republican primary voters.

Paul is currently averaging single-digit showings in most recent surveys of GOP voters nationally and in early-voting states.

if does this, does he take any republican voters with him ?

Nope, only people who think hanging out with Troofers makes one a desirable C-in-C. Few of them are Republicans.

What positions does Ron Paul have that aren’t conservative?

I keep hearing that being pro Iraq war is the “conservative” position. Is that what you mean?

Does anyone remember what Bob Dole said in the VP Debate in 1976 regarding Democrats and Wars?

(I know that was a controversial statement at the time, but I mention it because it can help to gain insight as to the history of the relationship between Conservatism and War.

Good post, and that is what many people have been saying. His hardest hurdle is the nomination. If he gets that, I have no doubt that will beat the hell out of the Dem candidate. That is, as long as we have fair voting machines. ;-)

Ron Paul is an anti-Christian bigot and a prick.

Spoken like a true Christan.

The same people who laughed at the “leave me, my rights and my money alone” libertarians will be begging and pleading for us to vote for their idiot GOP establishment nominee.

I'm not laughing at libertarians, I'm laughing at people dumb enough to vote for a guy who is the darling of the Troofer community.

The GOP in its current makeup does not have the votes to defeat Hillary in the general. That is a fact.

If it is a FACT, show us the proof.

I’ve been reading here, of late, a lot of criticism of Ron Paul. Some have even called him kooky. I think that
most of his policies are simply traditional, small government, conservative positions.

Could you enlighten me (it should be easy for you to do) and
list 5 or 10 kooky, non-traditional conservative positions that Ron Paul holds?

"Whether Paul goes 3rd party or not is irrelevant. The GOP in its current makeup does not have the votes to defeat Hillary in the general. That is a fact."

Where's the proof? Numbers and polls change almost daily. The fat lady hasn't even been invited yet.

I don’t think so .. this guy talks like a left-wing loon. He’s more liberal than most libs .. and I get the feeling he will be a BIG problem for the dems - because he could possibly draw all the anti-war people away from Hillary.

“Billy Bob will forever be Karl to me, Um Hmmm”

He is my hero. Him sleeping with Jolie is like a quadraplegic climbing Mt. Everest. I didn’t know he was in movies too. How many showers a day do you think Brad Pitt has to take to shake off the psychological stench of Billy Bob?

Riight, because being for limited government, pro-free market, cutting taxes and spending, pro-life, strongly pro2A, pro-sovereignty, sticking to the constitution, is SO "liberal."

Meanwhile, we have a pro-abortion, gun-grabbing, pro-gay, open borders, cross-dressing adulterer as a *front-runner* in the party that's supposed to be conservative.

I would say more about the utter absurdity of that, but I don't want to get banned, so I'll let the readers decide just how much sense that makes.

I am talking about the war against radical Islam. What the Ron Paul supporters don’t seem to get is that if we don’t win that war, all those other issues do not matter. I agree that in many ways both major parties have made a mess of things, but a third party that takes conservative and libertarian votes away from the Republican candidate will assure a Democrat in the WH. I would think that 8 years of Bill Clinton would have illustrated the potential disaster that would be!

From his website:

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/border-security-and-immigration-reform

# Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
# Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.

Ron Paul is a candidate representing a coalition between the far left and the far right against the center. Those that can see no difference between the Bushes and the Clintons, or between the DLC/Third Way and Compassionate Conservatism.

His strength as a candidate will depend on what happens to the economy between now and November.

If the stars and the moon align, and the Ron Paul coalition takes off, that opens the door for another third party candidate, Mike Bloomburg, who will represent a coalition of moderate republicans and democrats.

This would help the eventual Republican nominee.

The talking heads seem to have their drawers all in a bunch about Bloomberg going 3rd party, too. They seem to think he'll siphon off votes from the 'Pubbies, but I think if Bloomberg runs 3rd party it'll hurt the 'Rats more than the 'Pubbies......

This would be great since THE KOOK will draw away more MOONBAT anti-war and druggie types from the RAT side than staunch conservatives from the GOP.
