“Lions for Lambs” only did $15 Million domestic. That is Bomb in every since of the word here.

Theme might play into, also a crowded box office (5 wide opens Friday with 3 more coming Tuesday), I’m sure the way conservatives knee jerked on it didn’t help. The good news for the movie is that while it didn’t do well it was #2 of the new releases, though #4 over all.

It’s a Bomb no matter how you cut it. This movie was marketed badly. ET promoted this thing for the last month and it had so called Oscar buzz. It went down in flames and the rule of thumb as well as history will show that it will not come back up after such an opening.
I am going by the history of averages and it just won’t come back.
Tuesday you have Jack Nickolson and Morgan Freeman opening “The Bucket List” and that will be huge. People are not interested in serious films right now.

I don’t think it was marketed badly, it turned out to be exactly the movie I expected from the commercials, a funny yet serious movie based on real life events that had larger than life people. I’m not saying it’s going to comeback, there’s way too much stuff being released. The question isn’t did it bomb, the question is why and will said bombing make it harder to get a positive Iraq war movie out of Hollywood.

I’m not sure Bucket List is going to be huge, it’s actually pretty serious, two terminally ill guys living large on their way out the door does not promise to be light hearted fun.

WOW! I always though the Reagan Administration was responsible for defeating the Soviets in Afghanistan. Now I find out a Democrat congressman did it all by himself. I am disappointed

If you watch the documentary, There is a one-liner,
the war was going nowhere until President Reagan
authorized the stingers for Afghanistan.

CIA and DOD were overruled by the Gipper.

After that the tide of the war turned around.

You were not off by all that much, very close to final total.

After a DVD rentals, then DVD sales rounds, maybe even Oscar nods (nominations, at least) to Hanks, Hoffman and Roberts, it will be just in time for cable channels rotation in the election season, maybe even with cast’s and Sorkin’s commentary on the movie and how one Democrat Congressman singlehandedly with help of a CIA operative (think “Valerie Plame with a mustache”) defeated the Russians in Afghanistan, and if it were not for Reagan and Bush supplying Osama bin Laden with weapons and then abandoning Afghanistan to Osama, we wouldn’t have 9/11...

...just around election season, when most people will actually see the movie. Hollywood to the rescue, again, story to be continued... several months from now.

Oh man, “O Brother Where Art Thou?” has gotten to be one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s just the story of three drifting losers and their misadventures. Don’t try to read too much into it!

FANTASTIC soundtrack.

......"owe him a debt of gratitude for his efforts in ths ONE area."........

Naahh, I just give credit to Reagan for letting the stingers in. Charlie's heart was in the right place, but without the stingers, the moojahadeeni's would just be squishy stuff in Soviet tank tracks. It was a BIG gamble to let the stingers go, but it won the war. Course, we may have gotten some returned to us with Flt 800 off the Atlantic coast. I just have trouble giving a cokehead womanizer drunk credit for anything worthwhile.

BTW, I'm talking about C. Wilson, not Clinton. Just wanted to clear that up. I guess that could be Teddy Kennedy also. Hell, maybe most of the Dem party is a bunch of cokeheads now that I think about it.

I don’t think they tell and election year cycle, 2008 is the election, 2007 is the part of the election cycle when people that are over addicted to politics are paying attention, but most everybody else doesn’t give a damn. If you want to release a movie to change an election you do it October of 2008 not 2007.

You are not correct and appear to be uninformed in political matters of this nature, based on my 20+ years of professional GOP experience. The # 1 Presidential campaign platform for the Democrats-Soros Shadow Party is their “Bring ‘em Home” platform to bring our troops home and stop our Middle East War. You don’t wait and release a movie in October 2008 on this major and highly charged public issue unless you want to lose the Presidential election. You start beating the drums early in the Presidential election cycle, i.e. the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2007 and keep building on it up to Presidential Election Day. This is exactly what the Dems-SSP are doing in their attempts to 24/7/365 drown out the Bush-GOP Middle East War positions with the public ….. in order to keep accumulating political points for their socialist POS traitors agenda to get their Presidential candidate elected. Further, the D-SSP have many more anti-war and Bush-GOP hit job movies in the pipeline for 2008. The highly dangerous Soros Shadow Party have become experts in utilizing “chaos theory” to advance their positions and agenda through their highly dominate effects on the MSM and their massive number of official looking and sounding (with true agenda hidden) websites.

In case you or anyone else here at Free Republic does not understand, the GOP is the underdog in the 2008 Presidential election and without significant and focused efforts, by all Republicans that care about our great Country, the Democrats will win the election and take control of the Executive and Administrative branch of Federal Government. All serious FR members need to become directly and actively involved in advancing the GOP efforts to win the ’08 Presidential election. This does not include the obvious RINO’s, D-SSP “plants”, and people here only for idle passing-the-time yapping and/or uneducated bashing on this outstanding GOP~Conservative agenda website. – FlA

I just have trouble giving a cokehead womanizer drunk credit for anything worthwhile.

The movie is about Charlie Wilson. The focus purpose of this thread is about staunch life-long Republican and anti-communist Joanne King Herring of Houston, Texas, who is a major power player in the GOP inner circle. Charlie Wilson would be a blowout out bum in the gutter had it not been for Joanne.

The second purpose of this thread is how several well informed GOP operatives keep this movie from being another anti-war Democrats-Soros Shadow Party hit piece by cutting the D-SSP off at the knees. And, they used a "yellow dog" Democrat attorney, and major power player, Dick Deguerin of Houston, Texas to do it... who is also Tom "still The Hammer" DeLay's attorney. (You can do the math)

Charlie was very honest that the liberal democrats director and producer made him out to be a much better person that he really was, and gave him more credit than he deserved, in the movie. But the flip side is, for a CIA covert operation as high stakes as this one was, Charlie was a perfect candidate. If the deal went bad the FBI investigates and arrests “yellow dog” Democrat Charlie for all his crimes, and he is easy for "the powers" to destroy in the MSM to cover up the “GOP White House didn’t know anything about it” gone bad operation. The CIA specifically looks for guys like Charlie for their dirty work and he was well vetted before they got involved and used him. Is anyone dumb enough to not understand that President Ronald Reagan, and his White House inner cabinet circle, were well briefed and informed on Charlie-Gus & Co.'s activities on a detailed and on-going basis.... and that Reagan & Co. was pulling their strings?

Lookit, Charlie Wilson is dying. So let the man have some brief limelight for participating in a significant historical event, that many Americans and other people around the World don’t know the details.... in which much of the key information is still classified. So what if it includes some of the liberal slant and pumped up BS about the man.

THE bottom line is, like the Nazis, we kicked those Godless Commie bastards ass! Communists....., along with Fascists, Atheists, Socialists, and other ultra liberal and radical POS’s that support the DemoRATs-George Soros Shadow Party, and the Clinton Regime, efforts to destroy our great Country called the United States of America . - FlA

Lookit, Charlie Wilson is dying.

He had a heart transplant about 2 months ago and went to the movie premier. He probably "cut in line" to get a heart that should have gone to a "commoner!"

I can't stand Charlie Wilson--for years!!!!!!

“Still, two hours is a bit much. It seems like we’re watching some of the same footage over and over...”

That and the recap after every commercial. Makes a 44-minute production turn into a 2-hour affair.

Yes that got old. Thank goodness for DVR’s to skip through the commercials and post-commercial movie recaps, which is standard with the History Channel and others. The movie is logged at 93 minutes, shown in a 120 minute time slot.

I’ve never bought into beating the drums early, especially if you only have one message. I think that leads to you boring the American people and losing their support. All you have to do is look at how the polls have dramatically re-arranged in the last few months to see the difference between the part of the election cycle when the junkies are watching and the part where the general public are finally paying attention. The American people really aren’t that interested in politics, long campaigns focused on one message bore them.

As for the GOPs underdog status in this election, they worked really hard to get it. This is the sorriest set of candidates I’ve seen the GOP put up since I started paying attention to politics in 1976. The only good news for the GOP on that front is the Dems also put up a pathetic set of candidates. I think we’re finally learning why historically Senators don’t win the presidency, the field is dominated by current and former Senators and the field blows chunks. I predict very low turnout, this is just a sorry assed election.

Which likely would NOT have happened without the ground having been prepared by Charlie and his crew.

Don't get me wrong here. I intensely dislike Charlie Wilson and it is personal with me but I still have to give the man credit where credit is due.

You know, I generally don't like lawyers much but in your case it appears that I will have to make an exception!

VERY well said and EXACTLY on target!

It really is very easy to recognize those on this forum who have actually been in the trenches of the political war that is taking place in our country and separate them from the keyboard cowboys who TALK a good game but, in reality, have no clue as to what is going on.

I obviously know a lot more about films and openings than you do. I looked at what was coming out and the subject matter and hypothesized that “Charlie Wilson’s War” would not open big and I was right. I don’t have to see the movie in toto to know what the prospects are for a successful gross. Well That film was probably released at the wrong time given it’s subject matter. Right now people want a great comedy or a great escapist film and it was neither.
End of argument. And by the way your rudeness was out of line. Are you a real unhappy person? Please have a Merry Christmas and find a little happiness.
