A quote from Ron Paul's speech at Politics and Eggs breakfast airing on C-Span now (actual comments aired appx 9:25 pm EST):

...when he "misspoke" earlier this week (flag and a cross- Sinclair), he started by saying something like, "...I haven't thought this through, but..."

THAT should have been a long lasting lesson and the last gaff for a L-O-N-G time. Turns out it wasn't.

IF you are Presidential material, you need to listen when you think to yourself, "I haven't thought this through yet..." and then SHUT-UP!!

And, yes, stupid is better than malicious. You can educate those who don't know the facts or are careless about them. You know, a lot of folk don't read more than one or two sentences before they post. And that's okay, this is a forum to educate and discuss. But with the malicious Paul-hater types, they know the truth and prefer the lie. The Bible warns us against such persons. And we can conclude quite a lot about their personal character in real life, at their work and with their families, based on such behavior even on an anonymous internet forum.

******No one’s worried about RP winning the GOP nomination; they’re worried about him going Ind. with his big pile of cash and siphoning enough votes away from the GOP nominee in battleground states to tilt the election to the Donkey nominee. ...a justifiable concern, given our evenly divided country (electorally). Well, the Paul detractors better get worried. The huge amount of individual contributors (123,000+ in the 4th quarter) to his campaign shows that his base is very large and very committed. When Joe “six pack” contributes $50 to a political candidate, you know he is going to be promoting his candidate to all his friends, family, co-workers, etc.

Also, the amount of cash his official campaign is getting is just a drop in the bucket compared to the “free” advertising by his supporters. 99.9% of all those yard signs, bill boards, bumper stickers, T Shirts, DVD’s, money stamps, etc. were bought and paid for (or home made) by his supporters.

In N. H., he has at least 400 supporters on the ground going door to door every day, at their own expense. Romney, Clinton, etc. have to pay people to do that, for the most part.

Go to Meetup.com and look at the map for Ron Paul meetup groups and you will see that the country is blanketed with meetup groups.

If there is ever going to be a grass roots campaign that can win the presidency, this one is it.

I also think most Ron Paul detractors misjudge the sentiment of the country. The government’s phony, baloney statistics about the health of the economy does not agree with the general population’s conception.

Ron Paul’s strong showings in Iowa and N.H. will energize his supporters to new levels. I think the worse he will do is second in one and third in the other. But I think it is entirely possible that he will win both.

Get worried, get very worried.

Ron Paul is THE example of someone who I think makes for a good Representative, but should never, ever be President. I could never vote for him.

I'll go out on a limb here, and predict that they will not nominate Ron Paul, and that the federal government will continue to expand under the next adminsitration.

Here's what's going to happen over the course of the election:

• Paul and his supporters will continue to be attacked by the establishment right (GOP/conservative elites)

• Paul himself will be denied to speak at the convention, his supporters will continue to be portrayed as a bunch of leftists kooks even though we all know it's bunk

• These same elitist hacks are going to whine and scream at the prospect of Paul running as an independent or 3rd party candidate

• Paul will decline, go back to running for his Congressional seat, and the same GOP/conservative elites are going to support Peden

• Paul overwhelmingly wins his Congressional seat, enough of his supporters will write-in Paul's name or stay home, Hillary Clinton will become President, and there will be hundreds of threads posted here about how "PAUL COST US THE ELECTION! HE'S A TRAITOR!

Can't wait for the election to begin.

Incinerating them for incinerating us is not an equitable exchange, Mr. Paul. It is a vastly different world we live in and Fortress America no longer exists nor can it sans force-field technology. Your best status is as an amusing curmudgeon who does call your peers’ attention to the Constitution but as a leader? No freakin way.

My point is that none of the other Republican candidates are vilified to the point Ron Paul is, and those who support him. It’s not a matter of arguing points or his position, just a lot of name calling. I find that very odd for this board.

Hillary Clinton and a bunch of unshaven 7th century heathens who should have been smoked on 09/12/2001 have got most of these people scared s--tless.

They are completely missing the bigger picture, and would rather elect any Republican because "he'll be better than the Democrat." I've been on this board since 1999 and seen it happen with FReepers defending Bush ("He's more CONSERVATIVE than his father, OK?") nonstop. I'm glad FR came to its senses on Giuliani though.

Here's what's going to happen over the course of the election:

I plan to win. Yeah, it's uphill. But we can win this thing. There are several scenarios that could allow it to happen. And there are some intangibles that can really help him.

I do agree that treating RP badly is extremely bad politics for the GOP, something that can poison the party's prospects for decades possibly.

When your party has spent like a drunken sailor and you libel the only small-government candidate in the race and with the ground organization and funding to compete, you are planting seeds of genuine bitterness and you will reap what you've sown. And you will have utterly repudiated your small-government ideology, namely the Reagan-Gingrich philosophy that won Congress for us after 43 years in the minority. This prospect of bitterness is especially true when so many RP supporters are venturing into politics for the first time. Screw those kids over and they won't forget it in coming elections.

And if the GOP thinks that Fear Of Hillary in 2008 is going to work any better than Fear Of Nancy did in 2006, they'd better think again before it's too late. I know we're the Stupid Party but that's just brain-dead. This party needs both some new direction and a return to its roots in liberty and small-government. Continuing this Bushism is a guaranteed loser.

It's a reasonable scenario if Paul doesn't win the primaries. But the best thing is that he's planted the seeds and gave the GOP an ultimatum of sorts.

I also hope Paul wins but he's got his work cut out for him because both the establishment left and right are going after him.
