YouTube video via Drudge- Ron Paul quote this morning on Fox and Friends- "When fascism comes it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross. "
“so, if oppose liberal government you’re a fascist.”
prairie pancakes, fiddlesticks and meadow nuggets.
anti-communism is not fascism.
When fascism comes, it will come with luke-warm candidates and perpetual “every”night football, Playstation 20 for the kids, and downloadable botox treatments for the moms.
“This idea that government was beholden to the people, that it had no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest, most unique idea in all the long history of mans relation to man. For almost two centuries we have proved mans capacity for self-government, but today we are told we must choose between a left and right or, as others suggest, a third alternative, a kind of safe middle ground. I suggest to you there is no left or right, only an up or down. Up to the maximum of individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism; and regardless of their humanitarian purpose those who would sacrifice freedom for security have, whether they know it or not, chosen this downward path”.
-Ronald Reagan
IMO, Huckabee has chosen that downward path and has been, unfortunately, embraced by Social Christian conservatives.
His point is that some may misuse Christianity and Patriotism to empower themselves. Is Huckabee and example of such a person? Paul does not explicitly say so. But few who have campaigned for the office of POTUS have, like Huckabee, used a particular faith as the expressed basis for their ideals and vision. Our country is by definition pluralistic, so it serves us well to elect a presdent who expressly understands as much.
I've always appreciated Dr. Paul's trust in the individual rather than hoardes who wrap themselves and represent themselves with one ideology or another. All the worse when their ideology is wrapped in the wrong symbols. The Christian faith is predominantly not one of earthly power.
Did Ron just jump the shark?
No, he did that 10 years ago!!
A disdain for Christians is not the way to win the hearts and minds of Conservative Christian Republicans.
Ron Paul doesn’t care... he is trying to distroy the GOP! the LIBERALS are helping him...
But then again, those aren’t his supporters anyway, so his statement probably enhanced his appeal to his target audience.
His target audience are LIBERALS who’ll be voting for whomever MOVEON tells them to vote for! :-)
Paul is referencing the so called "Huckaboom" that is being largely fueled by the MSM. But it's not all the MSM. Huckabee has become skilled in the use of populism to get elected. He did it in Arkansas under my watchful gaze and I know him like a favorite book.
I see the Christian right, with the notable exception of Arkansas residents flocking to Huck like some sort of Conservative savior. It's actually pretty horrifying to watch. It reminds me of the mental picture I have of lemmings falling off a cliff.
I would suggest that those many folks who have suddenly switched their candidate list around and put Huckabee to the top of it to poll the Arkansas residents on this forum before they make a fatal error. It could be said that the error is not the first related to Arkansas.
Dr. Paul is pointing the finger at blind allegiances formed by like minded Christians in the political realm. They tend to identify with words and ignore deeds, often following blindly.
Dr. Paul sees this and as crazy as he is, he does have a valid point.
TK, we are agreeing today, and on a Paul thread of all things...
Hmmmm. That hasn't stopped him from accepting donations from the likes of Truthers and Fascists. So, are you saying he's willing to take their money but doesn't trust them? Then why take their money? Oh, I see, he can't help it if they want to help out. Yes. That makes it alright.
Hatred of undiluted Christianity is a cornerstone of what really motivates the left. The fact that Bush was perceived as a genuine Christian is what always endeared most of the Left's intense vitriol.
You see a similar theme even on this forum with social liberals.

Only a public school educated idiot actually believes Hitler came to power “carrying a cross” or representing Christ in any way. Unless you can find that part of the New Testament where Jesus speaks of German superiority and national socialism.
Patriotism and Christianity are not evil, but evil politicians have often pretended to be patriots and/or Christians in order to give credibility to evil acts. I think Huckster Huckaberry is doing that.
Between nanny Huckster and liberaltopian Paul, I’m lossing patience with the stupidity of Republican voters.

Dems, as well as LRon, do not have policies. They have sound bites and talking points.
The moment GWB named Jesus Christ as his greatest influence, the war was on.
I am taking this opportunity to invite several paleoPaulistinians to try to defend Dr. Demento's dissing of Cross and flag while hiding behind Sinclair Lewis of all people. I am also pinging fieldmarshaldj, petronski, allegra, badeye, arrogant bustard and ejonesie22 because I just know they will want to notice this thread.
Other candidates are taking money from wealthy individuals who own percentages of foreign factories that employ indentured serfs and slaves, as documented and verified by anti-sweatshop coalition groups. Do you want the anti-sweatshop coalitions to be made aware that Mitt Romney, McCain, Clinton and others are accepting donations from slavers, and that both Bushes and both Clintons did the same? I know who they are, they live in my area, they show up on the opensecrets.org records.
How about the fact that several states have Republican parties that are significantly by business owners who have over 50% illegal labor?
That’s not a good line of argumentation for ANY Republican candidate (outside of outliers like Tancredo) to bring up in this primary season.
Stop using such the flimsy canard of rolls of self selecting donors to smear candidates, it doesn’t hold any weight in rational discussions.
Really? I see Paul signs all over the place in east Tennessee/western North Carolina. I have no idea why the supporters of other candidates aren't putting up signs; but the Paul people have certainly been busy...
No, I am not a striking TV writer, just another schmuck out here trying to understand it all.
