If Keyes' poll numbers are rising, then that means support for the other GOP candidates have diminished, and Keyes' is just getting the sloppy seconds leftover from the dwindled GOP base that's currently being carved up by the other candidates besides Paul.

I'd have more respect for this godly man if he stopped running for office and paid off his old campaign debts.

At last filing, he is still over a half-million in debt for campaigns going back ten years.

Keyes is a perpetual candidate. This is simply a fundraising and publicity gig for him.

One of the stranger pieces of legislation that Paul Co sponsored would have kept him out of the debates!!

. H.CON.RES.263 : Expressing the sense of Congress that any Presidential candidate should be permitted to participate in debates among candidates if at least 5 percent of respondents in national public opinion polls of all eligible voters support the candidate’s election for President or if a majority of respondents in such polls support the candidate’s participation in such debates. Sponsor: Rep Jackson, Jesse L., Jr. [IL-2] (introduced 11/6/2001) Cosponsors (2)

See some of Paul’s CO sponsored legislation here:

Take note of the ultra liberal socialists in congress he signed on with.

Second reference to Heinlein in a post to me in as many days. Guess I need to put him on my reading list. Thanks.

I really like Dr. Keyes.

He was my choice over Bush in the primaries several years ago.

Without judgment, life and our actions are without consequence or meaning. The liberal trades the very possibility of meaning in life away to avoid consequence and responsibility.

Agreed. This is a measure of what Texas is about, and I don’t think it’s about a fool like Run Paul.

It comes from a writer who drank himself to death....
Certainly explains the distorted vision..

Athiest and socialist as well. Won a prize (of course) for literature since he attacked American small town values, religion, and capitalism in his writing. Mainly at a time when the Soviet Union, and German and Italian fascism, was rising in the 1920’s and the 1930’s.

Thanks for the info, a lot of scary stuff in this man record. Sheila Jackson Lee is a good fit for him.

I don’t know about you, but if someone I support says something stupid, I’m at least honest enough to admit it, instead of making endless excuses for him.

Fred Thompson can fricking call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, and FReepers will scream "WE'RE NOT WORTHY!"

No! The stupid comments from candidates expressed in this thread came from Ron Paul. And you and other PaulBots are the ones defending those comments, as well as his despicable acceptance of contributions from Truthers and fascists.

I'm a Thompson supporter. If he were to make a stupid remark as Paul did I'd renounce the statement. We're not the blind sheeple here; you are.

” FReeper JeffHead is one of the most respectable FReepers here. He disagrees with Paul’s foreign policy, which is fair because I have some reservations too.”

As do I. But on a lot of other issues, he’s been misrepresented - mostly by FReepers who claim they want small government, but really want it to legislate their pet social issues.

Hunter is the only candidate I can vote for without hesistion, and I don’t even agree with him 100% - particularly he is a little protectionist for my tastes. On the other hand, most of that is directed towards a different attitude towards China, which I support.

I was leaning towards Thompson till he appointed George P Bush to a campaign support position. It showed horrible judgment in my opinion.

I think Huckabee is kooky. I don’t think Paul is, though some of his supporters are. Others are people who are sick and tired of the same old same old. that the RNC has sent our way. I am sympathetic to them for the character attacks they receive on this forum.

Actually Babbitt has as its central figure a businessman (who has a friend Paul he calls "Paulibus" after the Latin dative/ablative plural third-declension endings--he must have had some high school Latin). The one with the preacher is Elmer Gantry.

Dr. Keyes is in the race for one reason....to further the cause of conservatism by helping channel the dialog in areas most candidates attempt to avoid.

Kudos’s to Dr. Keyes and God bless his work.

At least David Koresh was an actual dangerous nut. Today, everyone is presumed to be a dangerous nut from the get-go.

Perhaps, but he was demonstrably less dangerous than the nut in charge of the country at that point.

Keyes equally Run Paul explains the weakness of the Republican field? I’d think it explains how low Run Paul’s numbers are.

Did you mean to say "putz"?

No, but understanding that some people might take it that way, I didn't have a problem with it.

Devotion to God or country is fine. Devotion to God or country that will not suffer question or scrutiny is where there's potential for abuse.

That said is there anything stupider politically that you can imagine than attacking patriotism when our troops are in the field and in the same sentence attacking Christianity at Christmas?

I'm sorry, where's the "attack" on patriotism and religion? Please see the transcript snippet in post # 7; I didn't see where he said that patriotism and religion were synonymns for fascism. He's talking about Mike Huckabee's campaign tactics.

It would seem to me that it's only "politically stupid" if the majority of the audience is subject to fits of hypersensitivity and/or overreaction - it would be expected of them to categorize any remarks Ron Paul makes in that context. As evidenced.

RON PAUL: Well, I haven’t thought about it completely, but you know, it reminds me of what Sinclair, uh, Lewis once said, he said ‘when Fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’ I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross like he is the only Christian, or implying that subtly. So, uh, I don’t think I would ever use anything like that.

_________________

He quotes a socialist, athiest, and alcoholic in denigration of the flag and the cross when asked about Huckabee’s Christmas message. Sheesh. Are you an employee that has to pretend you don’t see the problem or that it’s a bone-headed move politically?
