COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The man who killed four people at a church and missionary training center died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, police said Tuesday.
Matthew Murray, 24, was struck multiple times by a security officer at New Life Church Sunday but died after firing a single shot at himself, the El Paso County Coroner's Office concluded after an autopsy.

Future stories like this (with a happy ending)will always point out the flaws (real or created)in the hero, no matter how small or irrelevant it is to the big picture. Big picture being: when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Upcoming stories on this will be sure to include media handwringing and liberal guilt over why she didnt shoot to wound , use a bean bag gun, taser or other silly notions.Im sure if I look hard enough, I could find the obligatory web posting by some idiot asking why she didnt just ‘shoot the gun out of his hands’.
So, the kid had two pistols, a high-powered rifle, 1000 rounds of ammunition in magazines. Where did the shotgun come from?
Very well said, my thoughts exactly.
here is the local story with the (reported) reason she was fired from the MPD back in the 90’s: http://www.twincities.com/allheadlines/ci_7691439?source=rv

We can add 'women' in this quote too. Her and the other guy acted in selfless defense of others. Heroes. Plain and simple. They were ready to take a bullet. Fortunately it worked out the other way around.
Does that mean yes?
To address your question,
IIRC, she lied to a suspect, or called him some names, and later denied it.
You know, good cop, bad cop.
The suspect was able to prove it, and so they fired her.
That’s noteworthy.
It was in the bass violin case along with hand grenades and a bazooka.
Yep.
The other guy took a hit to the arm. Seems hollow, decorative pillars don't provide much cover. He did good, though: distracted the perp and bought some time.
I agree! She is absolutely still a hero for her actions, regardless of the source of the fatal bullet. She stopped that sick animal right there, and prevented him carrying out the carnage he had intended to inflict on as many innocent people as he could. He wanted to be surrounded by bodies and blood before he was killed or killed himself. A LOT of lives were saved as a direct result of her courage and determination!
Now I know Ms Assam is apparently humble and not very outspoken but wouldn’t it have been part of her direct observation to see this POS off himself? Every account I’ve read has her closing with the perp firing at him all the way. I’m very suspicious of this report until I’ve heard corroboration or denial from witnesses.
Maybe I’m missing something here.
She probably refused an assignment to go into a mens room and tap her foot.
her shots were all luck and he only stopped shooting because his finger got tired.
(and he killed himself because Bush won’t sign Kyoto)
Personally, it will take more than this report to make me believe it. I also wonder about the perp being armored or not. I haven't seen anything concrete on this.
Maybe the “self inflicted” shot occurred when his muscles involuntarily contracted because of a bullet going through his heart or brain.
All I can say is that Murray took the coward’s way out. Lived like a coward and died like a coward, prefering to shoot unarmed, defenseless and unsuspecting people until he met up with someone with some fight in her.
Then prefering to take his own life rather than fight it out with a middle-aged woman that was far out gunned.
COWARD!!
Oh, and so are these pos “journalists” that want to marginalize the brave woman’s actions—they’re cowards too!
Yes, it’s a known fact that the MSM cannot abide any ‘abiding in thee.’
;o)
My thoughts exactly.
Sgt. Jesse Garcia, a Minneapolis police spokesman, said Assam worked at the department from March 1993 to November 1997, when she was fired for lying during an internal investigation.
Sgt. John Delmonico, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, said police were investigating a complaint that Assam swore at a bus driver while she was handling an incident on a city bus.
Delmonico said Assam was dealing with an incident on the bus and for some reason she swore at the bus driver as she
exited the bus. The bus driver became angry and filed a complaint.
“In giving a statement about the incident, she was untruthful and she was fired,” Delmonico said. The swearing was caught on tape, he said. “The union arbitrated the case and the arbitrator upheld the termination.”
